The NPRDS is an industry-wide system for monitoring the performance of selected systems and components at U.S. commercial nuclear power plants. Information in NPRDS is derived from a standardized format input report prepared by U.S. nuclear plant licensees. The plants are as)ced to submit failure reports on catastrophic events and degraded failures within the defined reportable scope reporting of incipient events is optional. Command faults are not reportable unless they malce an entire system unavailable. In addition, the plants are as)ced to file component engineering reports on all components within the selected systems and reportable scope. These reports contain detailed design data, operating characteristics, and performance data on the selected systems and components (over 3000 components, from approximately 30 systems, per unit). The selected systems are primarily safety systems. [Pg.64]

Approaches to the formation of three new types of micro-porous materials that complement zeolites will be discussed. In each case, whether metal coordination polymers, metal-linked ceramic oxide clusters, or new hybrids containing both coordination and ceramic components, engineering of the Secondary Building Unit (SBU) is of critical importance. Successful examples of these approaches include the first thermally stable 3-D micro-porous coordination polymer with chemical functionalizability [Cu3(TMA)2(H20)3] , as well as a 3-D micro-porous cluster based material [V,2B18O60H8(Cd(en)(H2O) 3]". ... [Pg.459]

Level 3 System Architecture (Interface between System and Component Engineers)... [Pg.311]

Level 3 specifies the system architecture and serves as an unambiguous interface between system engineers and component engineers or contractors. At level 3, the system functions defined at level 2 are decomposed, allocated to components, and specified rigorously and completely. Black-box behavioral component models may be used to specify and reason about the logical design of the system as a whole and... [Pg.311]

In addition to hard-hard combinations, hard-soft combinations hold a special position in multiple-component engineering. Soft, sealant, insulating, or damping TPEs are injected over a base corpus of hard thermoplastic. Familiar parts on the market made with this process include complex plastic housings with integrated seals (pump casings) and soft-touch grips (toothbmshes, razors, electrical apphances). [Pg.327]

Figure 13.11, illustrating the various voltage loss contributions in a typical fuel cell, shows solid-phase cp) and ionomer (electrolyte)-phase potential distributions as current (0 flows. The solid-phase potential drops within the BPs, DMs, and electrodes are negligible thanks to their high electrical conductivity. Noticeable potential drops are seen at the BP/DM and DM/electrode interfaces due to electrical contact resistances between components. Engineering efforts continue to... [Pg.299]

There is much emerging opportunity in size reduction through consolidation of components. Engines in all applications will go lean and need deNOx. Many of these, such as smaller cars and NR applications (tractors, small construction equipment), do not have much space for large systems. Illustrated above, consolidation of the SCR and DPF can save space and cost with little compromise in... [Pg.28]

We define pipe stress as the force per unit area applied to the cross-section of a piping component. Engineers typically express stress in pounds per square inch (psi). Many of the codes limit the design stress on carbon steel pipe to 20,000 psi or less. This limit is associated wifo stress due to pressure and weight. This alloxvable can change based on attached equipment, temperatures, load applications, and many other fac-... [Pg.389]

Global effects should be considered for all components important to safety contained in the affected building. In the reactor building, for example, the vibration induced by an impact would be transferred through the structures or the foundation to the locations of the different components. Engineering evaluations can support a cut-off of analytical values (see para. 4.39). [Pg.45]
