When heat-electric generating station turbine rotors are under operation there is a probability of forming surface cracks in axial canal and heat grooves. Evolution of the above defects can cause a serious crash. Therefore, in accordance with safety standards periodic inspection of the rotor component parts is required. 

The elements of a PM plan include periodic inspection, cleaning, and service as warranted, adjustment and calibration of control system components, maintenance equipment and replacement parts that are of good quality and properly selected for the intended function. Critical HVAC system components that require PM in order to maintain comfort and deliver adequate ventilation air include a outdoor air intake opening, damper controls, air filters, drip pans, cooling and heating coils, fan belts, humidification equipment and controls, distribution systems, exhaust fans. 

It is important to perform periodic inspections of all mechanical equipment and systems that incorporate rotating parts, including couplings and clutches.

Preventive maintenance is an interval-based surveillance method in which periodic inspections are performed on equipment to determine the progress of wear in its components and subsystems. When wear has advanced to a degree that warrants correction, maintenance is performed on the equipment to rectify the worn condition. The corrective maintenance work can be performed at the time of the inspection or following the inspection as part of planned maintenance. The decision of when to perform the corrective repair related to PM inspections depends on the length of shutdown required for the repair (Tompkins 1998). 

Regular periodic inspection is performed as part of maintenance program in plants. The results of the inspections are used to plan equipment repairs during scheduled shutdowns and to take action to maintain optimum production quality and quantity. 

An important factor that should be taken into account while drying PVC is the corrosion of the equipment due to the monomer chloride. Monomer chloride, which is always present in the wet cake, induces pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in parts where the powdery materials are processed. Those parts, therefore, are made of AISI-316L and are partially coated with an acid-resistant coating. It is indispensable to make periodic inspection of the corrosion condition and to make timely replacement of the necessary spare parts. Preventive maintenance is imperative to successful operation. 

Examples of these requirements include the need to check that an instrument is being used within the stated environmental conditions and application restrictions of the manufacturer. Specific requirements are made to check for compatible materials whenever any part in a safety instrumented function has process wetted parts. A planned comprehensive testing program with written test results is required. A periodic inspection and test plan must be created and verified.

Alabama has adopted the periodic inspection requirements in Part 396 for intrastate operations. Vehicles must pass an inspection at least annually. A report must be prepared by a qualified inspector. A copy of the report must be kept where the vehicle is housed or maintained for 14 months. A copy of the report or a decal containing minimal information must be on the vehicle. 

Kansas adopts the majority of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) for intrastate operations. The adoption of the driver qualification requirements, located in Part 391 of the FMCSRs, the hours-of-service requirements, located in Part 395 of the FMCSRs, and the vehicle inspection requirements (with the exception of the periodic inspection requirements), located in Part 396 of the FMCSRs, applies to vehicles ... 

Louisiana has enacted an official mandatory annual inspection program that is equivalent to the federal periodic inspection in Part 396. All vehicles registered in Louisiana that are subject to the federal periodic inspection regulations must be inspected at an approved Louisiana fleet/commercial inspection station.
