Coating partial

Internal surfaces of the pump show severe wastage (Fig. 17.13). The wasted region is free of corrosion products except for a small amount of soft, black material. Metal loss in this area was as deep as V2 in. (1.3 cm). The reddish coating partially covering the smooth area above the wasted zone in Fig. 17.13 was applied to mitigate corrosion. Where this coating is... [Pg.384]

It has been emphasised that the oxygen reduction reaction is diffusion controlled, and it might be thought that the nature of the metal surface is unimportant compared with the effect of concentration, velocity and temperature that all affect /Y and hence. However, in near-neutral solutions the surface of most metals will be coated (partially or completely) with either... [Pg.102]

I should like to thank the coworkers from my institute for their enthusiastic collaborations, my colleagues and friends Profs. Li Shizhi, H. Warlimont, V. Vitek, and many others for illuminating discussions, and my wife Dr. Maritza Vepfek-Heijman for her valuable comments on the manuscript. I am very much indebted to Drs. M. Jilek, M. Sima, and P. Holubar from the SHM Company for a very fruitful collaboration towards the industrialization of our superhard nanocomposite coatings. Partial financial support of our work by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and the Bavarian Ministry for Education and Science is thankfully acknowledged. [Pg.136]

Latex coating Partially masks the pores on the fiber surface. [Pg.182]

The most relevant drawback in talc applications is caused by its absorption of polymer process additive. This is a subject of intensive research and patent activity. The treated talc inhibits the adsorption of plastic film additives onto the talc. Surface treating means coating, partial coating, or using an effective amount of modifier to inhibit the adsorption of other additives. A functionalized polydialkyl, preferably polydimethylsiloxane is used for surface treatment. Bis-(12-hydroxystearate) terminated polydimethylsiloxane, is a preferred agent used for the surface treatment of talc (but can also be used in conjunction with other antiblocking agents, such as, diatomaceous earth, calcium carbonate, and synthetic silica). [Pg.16]

In liquid-liquid chromatography the stationary phase is a liquid film coated on a packing material consisting of 3-10 pm porous silica particles. The stationary phase may be partially soluble in the mobile phase, causing it to bleed from the column... [Pg.579]

Propellants cast into rockets are commonly case-bonded to the motors to achieve maximum volumetric loading density. The interior of the motor is thoroughly cleaned, coated using an insulating material, and then lined with a composition to which the propellant binder adheres under the environmental stresses of the system. The insulation material is generally a mbber-type composition, filled with siUca, titanium dioxide, or potassium titanate. SiUca-filled nitrate mbber and vulcanizable ethylene—propylene mbber have been used. The liner generally consists of the same base polymer as is used in the propellant. It is usually appHed in a thin layer, and may be partially or fully cured before the propellant is poured into the rocket. [Pg.49]

Surface Fluorination of Polymers. Fluorocarbon-coated objects have many practical appHcations because the chemically adherent surface provides increased thermal stabiHty, resistance to oxidation and corrosive chemicals and solvents, decreased coefficient of friction and thus decreased wear, and decreased permeabiHty to gas flow. Unusual surface effects can be obtained by fluorinating the polymer surfaces only partially (74). [Pg.279]

Alkenylsuccinic anhydrides made from several linear alpha olefins are used in paper sizing, detergents, and other uses. Sulfosuccinic acid esters serve as surface active agents. Alkyd resins (qv) are used as surface coatings. Chlorendric anhydride [115-27-5] is used as a flame resistant component (see Flame retardants). Tetrahydrophthalic acid [88-98-2] and hexahydrophthalic anhydride [85-42-7] have specialty resin appHcations. Gas barrier films made by grafting maleic anhydride to polypropylene [25085-53-4] film are used in food packaging (qv). Poly(maleic anhydride) [24937-72-2] is used as a scale preventer and corrosion inhibitor (see Corrosion and corrosion control). Maleic anhydride forms copolymers with ethylene glycol methyl vinyl ethers which are partially esterified for biomedical and pharmaceutical uses (189) (see Pharmaceuticals). [Pg.461]

Detector elements are prepared either by sublimation in the presence of a small partial pressure of O2 or by chemical deposition from alkaline solution containing a lead salt and thiourea or selenourea (63). Lead sulfide and lead selenide deposit from solutions as mirror-like coatings made up of cubic crystallites 0.2—1 p.m on a side. The reaction may nominally be represented by the following ... [Pg.432]
