This type of contract requires the operator to pay a fixed amount to the contractor upon completion of the well, while the contractor furnishes all the material and labour and handles the drilling operations independently. The difficulty with this approach Is to ensure that a quality well Is delivered to the company since the drilling contractor will want to drill as quickly and cheaply as possible. The contractor therefore should guarantee an agreed measurable quality standard for each well. The guarantee should specify remedial actions which will be implemented should a substandard well be delivered. [Pg.62]

As the name implies the company basically rents the rig and crew on a per day basis. Usually the oil company also manages the drilling operation and has full control over the drilling process. This type of contract actually encourages the contractor to spend as much time as acceptable on location . With increased cost consciousness, day rate contracts have become less favoured by most oil companies. [Pg.62]

For the three sinks, the laboratory operator suggested standard enamel sinks. The more expensive epoxy sinks, however, were chosen by the engineering firm because of their high resistance to chemicals. There are other specialized organizations and numerous contractors and vendors doing research to develop better materials, design methods, inspection and testing methods, and other practices to enhance the safety of pipelines. Most operators have multiple staff involved in various technical committees associated with these organizations, and various key technical people carry certifications of various types. A 350-ton deisobutanizer distillation column, 212 feet high, was raised into position in one piece at the El Segundo refinery of Standard Oil Co. of California, Western Operations, Inc. The lift was one of the heaviest ever accomplished in the U.S. with a load of this type. Macco Refinery and Chemical Division, California, was the prime contractor for construction. This database focuses on work-related personal injury and illness and property damage (including that due to the operation of motor vehicles). There is a general tabular breakdown relative to individual contractors however, there is no detail as to the specific types of work or the assumed risk inherent in these particular types of work. This is an old database which was established to collect statistics for the U.S. Department of Labor. An important aspect is that the data is reported on a normalized per unit of work (200,000 person hours) basis which facilitates gross comparisons between and within industries. Several types of part cleaners are used at shipbuilding and ship repair facilities. The types used in such facilities vary from the more simple sink and spray systems to more elaborate parts (machine) cleaners of the cold or vapor types. Most of the parts cleaners in shipyards are small — around 1.5 m x 1 m and 1 m deep - usually located in the machine shops, not the paint rooms. Most of the parts are small components being cleaned prior to being joined to other small parts into assemblies and sub-assemblies or being cleaned as part of some type of repair operation. Most of parts cleaners used were basket-type design with the parts loaded into a basket and dropped through the vapor zone several times to clean off the oils and dirt. Some shipyards use contractors to come in and change out the solvent on a routine schedule. [Pg.1031]
