Shot blasting

Emission levels from the exhaust gas of shot blasting have been eollected in an Italian foundry survey. The results are displayed in Table 3.54. All techniques reach maximum dust emission levels below 30 mg/Nm. The average value is below 15 mg/Nm. The wet Venturi system is the least effeetive system, leaving an emission factor well above those for the other techniques. On the other hand, it also acts as is a safety device to prevent an aluminium-dust-explosion [225, TWO, 2003]. [Pg.143]

The scale can also be removed by shot blasting using abrasive grits such as dry sand, less than I mm (p. This method is more suited for components not suited to the dip method and cast iron components, in which the acid may become trapped in the porous surfaces. For sheet-metal components and complicated shapes and crevices, the dip method alone is recommended. [Pg.402]

The unequal attack which occurs in tap water, condensate and other mild electrolytes may lead to perforations of thin-gauge sheet and even to deep pitting of castings. In stronger electrolytes the effect is variable. In chloride solutions such as sea-water, attack on the metal usually results in the pitting of some areas only, but where the metal surface has been rendered reactive, as by shot blasting, attack may be so rapid that uniform dissolution over the whole surface may occur. In either case magnesium-base alloys are not usually suitable for use in aqueous liquids since they are not intrinsically resistant to these electrolytes. [Pg.749]

By the use of many commercial abrasive processes, the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys can be reduced to such an extent that samples of metal that may lie quiescent in salt water for many hours will, after shot blasting, evolve hydrogen vigorously, and the corrosion rate, as measured by loss of weight, will be found to have increased many hundred-fold. The effect in normal atmospheres is naturally much less, yet the activation of the surface is an added hazard and is the opposite of passivation which is essential if later-applied paint finishes are to have proper durability. [Pg.756]

The standard method of cleaning cast iron for enamelling is by grit or shot blasting which may be preceded by an annealing operation. [Pg.736]

Test samples have been prepared from a 3 mm hot-rolled steel sheet which showed an intact mill scale (Degree A of Swedish Standards, SIS-055900), Thereafter they were shot blasted with S-280 to reach the ASa3 standard, prior to the application of the paint coating. Surface preparation B St 2 was obtained by wire brushing a steel sheet of Grade B obtained in turn by oxidation of Grade A sheet in a contaminant free atmosphere. In "Table I.", the characteristics of the paints used in this study are shown. [Pg.88]

The principal benefits of rubber lining are its excellent resistance to corrosive and abrasive chemicals and materials, e.g., acids, alkalies, salt water, slurries, sand, shot blast media, crushed ores etc. In addition to this, rubber linings provide other benefits including noise and vibration reduction, electrical and thermal insulation and product protection. [Pg.45]
