Home Office

The allocation of home office expenses shows up in this category. It has been argued that home office expenses do not increase with the addition of a new plant or unit. Hov/ever, a full allocation of home office overhead should be made for each study, since old units are phasing out or losing profitability. The new units must carry their share. Further, as discussed next in the section on Economics, each new unit must stand on its own and contribute to the overall company s profitability. The cost of yield clerks, plant accountants, plant personnel representatives, plant transportation department personnel, etc., must be estimated and included here. [Pg.238]

One of the most common systems for cleaning air in homes, offices, schools, etc. is the room air cleaner. Figure 8.2 outlines a model of a local recirculating system. Usually these units are situated inside the room if they are small and movable (see Chapter 10). For the model it does not matter if the unit is placed inside or outside the room with the contaminant source, as long as the exhaust and return air openings are inside. [Pg.616]

Alternating Current (AC). This current flows back and forth in the wire between the source and user application see Figure 14-9. Alternating current is produced by a device called a generator and is the most common type of current in homes, offices, industrial factories, and other applications. [Pg.625]

Home Office Science Advisory Council (1967-1975), he advised the police. Several other departments of state, research councils, and higher-education funding agencies also sought his assistance. [Pg.4]

He then joined the Central Research Establishment of the Home Office Forensic Science Service (as it then was) at Aldermaston where he developed thermogravimetry-MS, pyrolysis-MS, GC-MS and LC-MS methodologies for the identification of analytes associated with crime investigations. It was here that his interest in LC-MS began with the use of an early moving-belt interface. This interest continued during periods of employment with two manufacturers of LC-MS equipment, namely Kratos and subsequently Interion, the UK arm of the Vestec Corporation of Houston, Texas, the company set up by Marvin Vestal, the primary developer of the thermospray LC-MS interface. [Pg.18]

An Important difference is In the use of materials which in Prance la only about 2/3 of the United States. Hven greater is the difference of the amount of labor Involved which in France is only about 1/3 of the United States. A still greater ratio exists in the number of engineers and draftsmen required. One reason for that le that a larger fraction of the design la done in the home office rather than in the field. In the United States in 1967 about 3.3 million man hours were required to build a nuclear power plant in 1983 this number had gone up to 30 million man lioura. Field services in the U.S. went from 1.3 to 22 million man hours. [Pg.35]

In 1978, the Home Office report (14) concerning the fire behaviour of new (i.e. post 1945) materials specifically criticised the fire performance of upholstered domestic furniture and recommended manufacturers to improve ignition resistance, to reduce flammability, and to reduce the rates of smoke and toxic gas generation. [Pg.502]

Silver is usually found in extremely low concentrations in natural waters because of its low crustal abundance and low mobility in water (USEPA 1980). One of the highest silver concentrations recorded in freshwater (38 pg/L) occurred in the Colorado River at Loma, Colorado, downstream of an abandoned gold-copper-silver mine, an oil shale extraction plant, a gasoline and coke refinery, and a uranium processing facility (USEPA 1980). The maximum recorded value of silver in tapwater in the United States was 26 pg/L — significantly higher than finished water from the treatment plant (maximum of 5.0 pg/L) — because of the use of tin-silver solders for joining copper pipes in the home, office, or factory (USEPA 1980). [Pg.543]

Unable to afford my own office, I contacted the only psychiatrist in Bel Air, and arranged to use his home office for a few hours a month. He asked me to pay five dollars an hour for this privilege and I thought this quite reasonable. After finding a couple of patients who were willing to pay twenty-five dollars an hour (a modest fee), I began to do psychotherapy and the results were fairly encouraging. [Pg.205]

The contributions that catalysts make to almost every facet of our daily lives cannot be overstated. Virtually every natural resource (cmde oil, coal, biomass, minerals) and every source of energy (petrochemical fuels, nuclear, natural gas, solar) require the use of many catalysts before finished products (fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, polymers, composites) arrive in our homes, offices and industries [1]. Catalysts also play increasingly important roles in solving some of the most challenging environmental problems that we currently face (global warming, the greenhouse effect, limited natural resources and polluhon) [2]. [Pg.137]
