The production profile for oil or gas is the only source ofrevenueior most projects, and making a production forecast is of key importance for the economic analysis of a proposal (e.g. field development plan, incremental project). Typical shapes of production profile for the main drive mechanisms were discussed in Section 8.2, but this section will provide some guidelines on how to derive the rate of build-up, the magnitude and duration of the plateau, the rate of decline, and the abandonment rate. 

For a single stage separator i.e. only one separator vessel, there is an optimum pressure which yields the maximum amount of oil and minimises the carry over of heavy components into the gas phase (a phenomenon called stripping). By adding additional separators to the process line the yield of oil can be increased, but with each additional separator the incremental oil yield will decrease.

Artificial lift techniques are discussed in Section 9.6. During production, the operating conditions of any artificial lift technique will be optimised with the objective of maximising production. For example, the optimum gas-liquid ratio will be applied for gas lifting, possibly using computer assisted operations (CAO) as discussed in Section 11.2. Artificial lift may not be installed from the beginning of a development, but at the point where the natural drive energy of the reservoir has reduced. The implementation of artificial lift will be justified, like any other incremental project, on the basis of a positive net present value (see Section 13.4). 

One problem facing engineers in this situation, where the process is applied from waterflood initiation, is how to quantify the incremental recovery resulting from the polymer additive. 

The role that a host facility plays in an incremental development project can vary tremendously. At one extreme all production and processing support may be provided by the host (such as gas lift and water treatment). On the other hand, the host may just become a means of accessing an export pipeline (if a production and processing facility is installed on the new field). 

The character of a satellite development has considerable implications for a mature field in decline, but will not always have a positive economic effect on the life of the host. The remainder of this section will address the advantages of incremental development from the perspective of managing decline. 

Whatever form of incremental development is considered, the benefits to the host facility should not be gained at the expense of reduced returns for the new project. Incremental and satellite projects can in many situations help to extend the production life of an old field or facilities, but care must be taken to ensure that the economics are transparent. 

The vessels will be pressurised up to 1,1 - 1,25 fold of the normal service pressure of the drums, within stress increments of 50 kPa (0,5 bar) and a constant and smooth slope of less than 10 kPa.min . During the complete test the data will be acquired, stored and analysed. 

If we suppose that the presence of a long axial emerging rectangular defect doesn t change the thickness e of the ring where the induction in the tube is not equal to zero but only its circumferential length, and also that it is it does not change the local induction in amplitude and phase, then the presence of the defect increases only the of the piece where the induction is not equal to zero, this increment is equal to 2he. 

In practice, only a limited number of views are available the scanned sector is typically 180 or 360°, and the angular increment 2°. Moreover the frequency band-width of the employed pulses is very limited, typically one octave. The resolving power of the system is then limited. A typical numerical signal is composed of 1024 samples at a sampling period of 50 nsec. 

In order that the data acquisition system can obtain information about the spatial location and orientation of the probe, a four-channel incremental encoder interface board is installed. Three channels are used to define position in three-dimensional space, while the fourth monitors the skew of the probe (skew is defined as rotation about an axis normal to the probe face). Although six measurements are required to completely define the location and orientation, it is assumed that the probe remains in contact with the inspection surface.
