Developing the arguments in the same manner as the plate theory, let a volume (dv) of mobile phase, equivalent to (cadv) ml, enter the cell, and let the concentration of solute (a) in the incremental volume be (Xn). Let an equivalent volume (cadv) of mobile phase be displaced from the cell, and let the concentration of solute in the mobile phase contained by the cell prior to the introduction of the volume (dv) be... [Pg.221]

A detailed description of the versatility of multiple development techniques in one dimension has been given by Szabady and Nyiredy (18). These authors compared conventional TLC with unidimensional (UMD) and incremental (IMD) multiple development methods by chromatographing furocoumarin isomers on silica using chloroform as the monocomponent mobile phase. The development distance for all three methods was 70 mm, while the number of development steps for both of the "D techniques was five. Comparison of the effects of UMD and IMD on zone-centre separation and on chromatographic zone width reveals that UMD increases zone-centre separation more effectively in the lower Rf range, while IMD results in narrower spots (Figure 8.8). [Pg.179]

Published refractive index data for the mobile phase, polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile, and the two monomers were used to calculate refractive index detector calibrations for the two homopolymers. The published data were used to determine relationship between refractive index increments of monomer and corresponding homopolymer. Chromatographic refractometer calibrations for the two homopelymers were then calculated from experimentally measured calibration data for the two monomers. [Pg.81]

Multiple developments can be classifled into nniform mnltiple developments (UMD, also called nnidimensional multiple developments) for methods in which the migration distance and mobile phase composition are constant and incremental multiple development (IMD) with mostly ascending migration distances. However,... [Pg.120]

Two-dimensional separations in planar chromatography are rather trivial to perform. All unidimensional multiple development techniques employ successive repeated development of the layer in the same direction, with removal of the mobile phase between developments. The main variants are multiple chromatography and incremental multiple development. The basis for automated multiple development (AMD) is the automation of unidimensional, incremental, multiple development with a reverse solvent strength gradient [998]. 2D TLC finds limited use, and is mainly a qualitative technique. [Pg.559]

Another HPTLC method has been developed for the separation of kaempferol and quercetin in the extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves showing beneficial effect in brain diseases. Leaves were refluxed with methanol for 30 min then filtered. The filtrate was refluxed with 25 per cent HC1 for 60 min then neutralized with ammonia and the clear supernatant was applied for HPTLC. Silica plates were predeveloped in chloroform-methanol (1 1, v/v). Separation was performed with toluene-acetone-methanol-formic acid (46 8 5 1, v/v) as the mobile phase using incremental multiple development. A densitogram illustrating the good separation charactersitics of the system is shown in Fig. 2.42. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the method was low (1.37 and 1.40 for kaempferol and quercetin,... [Pg.143]

If the torsional strain generated by DNA translocation is utilized for mobilizing nucleosomes [195] then the direction of translocation will play an important role in determining the direction in which DNA is passed over the nucleosome surface and the orientation in which torsion is altered. Provided that rotation of the remodeling complex is restricted, incremental translocation of the motor towards the nucleosome will apply positive superhelical torsion to the particle whereas translocation away the nucleosome will apply negative superhelical torsion [119] (Fig. 3). The problem then is how to translate the motion of the translocase into translational... [Pg.440]
