In-house

An organisation such as the example above includes sub groups for each of the main activities and a support (or services) group to manage information and procurement. Auditing commitments may be fulfilled by an independent in-house team or by external auditors. [Pg.295]

The multiple advantages of our process reengineering are improvement of the acquisitioii/analysis speed (times 4), the low cost as this in house application is based on personal computers, the easy and minimal cost upgrades can be performed by engineers and technicians, and an immediate inspection feedback implementation. [Pg.1009]

Edcfy-cufrent NDT inspections using spatial data (sampled scans) ha >e many benefits. They separate the two conflicting aspects of an inspection scanning and signal interpretation. An instrument/display (client/server) based NDT inspection based on sampled scan data aides in the training and certification of inspectors. It can be used over the Internet or in-house Intranet networks to train or examine inspectors at multiple or remote sites. This saves travel time and resources as defects, instrumentation and teaching can all be consolidated Samples can be maintained and distributed from a central certification body providing more control andflexibility. [Pg.1014]

The instrument/display (client/server) paradigm allows for synchronous and asynchronous analysis, locally or remotely via the Internet or in-house Intranet network. [Pg.1021]

The JME Editor is a Java program which allows one to draw, edit, and display molecules and reactions directly within a web page and may also be used as an application in a stand-alone mode. The editor was originally developed for use in an in-house web-based chemoinformatics system but because of many requests it was released to the public. The JME currently is probably the most popular molecule entry system written in Java. Internet sites that use the JME applet include several structure databases, property prediction services, various chemoinformatics tools (such as for generation of 3D structures or molecular orbital visualization), and interactive sites focused on chemistry education [209]. [Pg.144]

Most database users do not know how the data are organized in a database system (DBS) they depend solely on the application programs. This is sufficient for most database searches where users can receive large amounts of results quickly and easily, e.g., on literature or other information. Nevertheless, a basic knowledge on where and how to find deeper or more detailed information is quite useful. Due to their complex nature, comprehensive searches (e.g., for processes or patents) are not recommended for beginners. However, most local (in-house), online, and CD-ROM databases provide extensive tutorials and help functions that are specific to the database, and that give a substantial introduction into database searching. [Pg.230]

The two major databases containing information obtained from X-ray structure analysis of small molecules are the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) [25] and the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database (ICSD) [26] both are available as in-house versions. CSD provides access to organic and organometallic structures (mainly X-ray structures, with some structures from neutron diffraction), data which are mostly unpublished. The ICSD contains inorganic structures. [Pg.258]

Cheminform RX, nowadays called the Cheminform Reaction Library, is distributed as an in-house version in a client-seiwer architecture by M DL Information Systems, Inc., San Leandro, CA, USA [22]. [Pg.264]

Virtual screening assists the selection of compounds for screening in-house libraries and compounds from external suppliers. Two different strategies can be applied ... [Pg.603]

The utilization of commercially available finite element packages in the simulation of routine operations in industrial polymer processing is well established. However, these packages cannot be usually used as general research tools. Thus flexible in-house -created programs are needed to carry out the analysis required in the investigation, design and development of novel equipment and operations. [Pg.288]

A fundamental requirement in powder processing is characterization of the as-received powders (10—12). Many powder suppHers provide information on tap and pour densities, particle size distributions, specific surface areas, and chemical analyses. Characterization data provided by suppHers should be checked and further augmented where possible with in-house characterization. Uniaxial characterization compaction behavior, in particular, is easily measured and provides data on the nature of the agglomerates in a powder (13,14). [Pg.310]

Strain development programs can mn into millions of doUars. This combined with the status of the strain in the overall process makes the strains extremely valuable and manufacturers rarely deposit useful cultures in one of the commercial coUections (14). Nevertheless, commercial coUections exist and are a very valuable, often used source of microorganisms that have shown some promise of producing smaU or minute quantities of products having real or possible commercial appHcations. These strains are often useful in augmenting in-house activities or as starters for a development program. [Pg.179]

Ferroelectric—polymer composite devices have been developed for large-area transducers, active noise control, and medical imaging appHcations. North American Philips, Hewlett-Packard, and Toshiba make composite medical imaging probes for in-house use. Krautkramer Branson Co. produces the same purpose composite transducer for the open market. NTK Technical Ceramics and Mitsubishi Petrochemical market ferroelectric—polymer composite materials (108) for various device appHcations, such as a towed array hydrophone and robotic use. Whereas the composite market is growing with the invention of new devices, total unit volume and doUar amounts are small compared to the ferroelectric capacitor and ferroelectric—piezoelectric ceramic markets (see Medical imaging technology). [Pg.209]

Acrylonitrile—Butadiene—Styrene. Available only as sheet, ABS has good toughness and high impact resistance. It is readily therm oform able over a wide range of temperatures and can be deeply drawn. ABS has poor solvent resistance and low continuous-use temperature. It is often used in housings for office equipment (see Acrylonitrile polymers). [Pg.377]

The sandwich-type stmcture of polyurethanes with a smooth integral skin produced by the reaction injection molding process provides a high degree of stiffness as weU as exceUent thermal and acoustical properties necessary for its use in housing and load-bearing stmctural components for the automotive, business machine, electrical, furniture, and materials-handling industry. [Pg.416]

Stmcture searching and display software are host-specific. The Softon Substmcture Search System (S4) was developed by the Beilstein Institute and Softon of Graefelfing Germany (50). It is a full stmcture and substmcture searching module. The S4 is used in-house by the Beilstein Institute and is operated by DIALOG. STN uses CAS ONLINE s messenger software for on-line stmcture searching of the Beilstein on-line database (51). [Pg.117]

Once the need for a LIMS has been justified, specifications have been written, and available vendors surveyed, the LIMS selection process begins. Each vendor s product must be evaluated for conformance to the specification and flexibiUty for future modifications. If an adequate solution is not available commercially, consideration must be given to constmcting a custom LIMS solution. This could be done in-house or by contractors. If the custom option is preferred, resources needed for future modifications and maintenance should be factored into the cost. [Pg.520]

Magnesium acetate also has uses as a dye fixative in textile printing, as a deodorant, disinfectant, an antiseptic in medicine, and as a reagent chemical (see Disinfectants AND ANTISEPTICS Textiles) (6). In the United States, Hoescht-Celanese and Tennessee Eastman are the principal producers of magnesium acetate. These companies make about 36,000 t/yr, which is largely used in-house for the production of cellulose acetate. [Pg.339]

Supplementing In-House Organizations with Contract Maintenance... [Pg.442]

If a faciHty is large enough to support an in-house maintenance department, management of such a department has the responsibiHty to assure that its maintenance and operation s program is at all times cost effective. The greatest benefit of an in-house maintenance department must be its spirit of ownership. Workers should be trained to have pride of ownership, and must be given the tools to maintain this pride. [Pg.442]

Selection of an in-house group or consulting firm to do a market or marketing research study does not foUow any set pattern. In some cases, an outside consulting group is retained to do an independent study of an area already researched by an in-house group. Most often the consultancy is unaware of the prior in-house study, and its report is used as a check study or an assurance to management that its report made a proper assessment. [Pg.533]

A multiple chent study may serve many useful purposes to company management. It may act as a primer for intensive study of a narrower part of the market, a guide to deciding whether to expend R D effort in the field, or a guide to deciding whether to acquire a company already in the field. The independent study can also resolve conflicting opinions within different departments of the chent company. Finally, the cost of a multiple chent study is usually lower than the cost of a comparable study by a chents in-house personnel. [Pg.535]

Company practices differ in who does purchasing research and how it is done. Several patterns are evident. The chemical buyer is responsible for preparing the purchase profiles, possibly with in-house Hbrary assistance. Market research analysts are assigned to the purchasing department and prepare some or all of the profiles needed. Outside consultants are used to prepare some of the purchase profiles or as a check on internal procedures and conclusions. [Pg.538]

Pigments and Extenders. Pigments are selected for use in house paints based on thek appearance and performance quaUties. Appearance includes color and opacifying abiUty. Performance quaUties include ultraviolet light resistance, fade resistance, exterior weatherabiUty, chemical resistance, as well as particle size and shape. Toxicity profiles and safety and health related properties are also important criteria in pigment selection. [Pg.541]
