In-house activities

Strain development programs can mn into millions of doUars. This combined with the status of the strain in the overall process makes the strains extremely valuable and manufacturers rarely deposit useful cultures in one of the commercial coUections (14). Nevertheless, commercial coUections exist and are a very valuable, often used source of microorganisms that have shown some promise of producing smaU or minute quantities of products having real or possible commercial appHcations. These strains are often useful in augmenting in-house activities or as starters for a development program. [Pg.179]

An organisation such as the example above includes sub groups for each of the main activities and a support (or services) group to manage information and procurement. Auditing commitments may be fulfilled by an independent in-house team or by external auditors. [Pg.295]

Ferroelectric—polymer composite devices have been developed for large-area transducers, active noise control, and medical imaging appHcations. North American Philips, Hewlett-Packard, and Toshiba make composite medical imaging probes for in-house use. Krautkramer Branson Co. produces the same purpose composite transducer for the open market. NTK Technical Ceramics and Mitsubishi Petrochemical market ferroelectric—polymer composite materials (108) for various device appHcations, such as a towed array hydrophone and robotic use. Whereas the composite market is growing with the invention of new devices, total unit volume and doUar amounts are small compared to the ferroelectric capacitor and ferroelectric—piezoelectric ceramic markets (see Medical imaging technology). [Pg.209]

Product or Process Development—A company can develop a new product or process as a quasi-research effort with a toller while simultaneously building the in-house production capacity. This allows problems found in the toller s intermediate scale efforts to be fixed in the large-scale process and to reduce development time and costs. It may simply be a case of a company wanting to try new raw materials in a well-known process without disrupting existing production or establishing a pilot facility. Tollers can provide a way to achieve these activities in a parallel fashion. [Pg.7]

All these standards have since been adopted by the member countries as their national standards, fully or in slightly modified forms, to suit their own requirements and working conditions. These standards define and clarify the quality norms and aim at in-house quality disciplines, to automatically and continually produce a product, provide a service or programme to the stipulated specifications, quality norms and customer needs. They guarantee a product or service with a minimum quality. The envisaged quality systems thus aim at a work culture that pervades all those involved in different key activities or processes, to achieve the desired goal through carefully evolved systems. [Pg.248]

Muscarinic M3 Receptor. A pharmacophore model was derived from known M3 receptor antagonists, using the program DISCO, and 3D searching was performed by Unity 3D in the Astra Charnwood in-house compound repository and the databases of several commercial suppliers. The 172 compounds that fitted the pharmacophore were screened for their M3-antagonistic potency. Several compounds with micromolar and even submicromolar activities resulted, for example, compound 13 (A50 M3 antagonism 0.2pM pA2 = 6.67 Fig. 16.2) [85],... [Pg.386]

NMR 3D structure of the undecapeptide U-II generated a ligand pharmacophore hypothesis that served as query for the virtual screening of the Aventis in-house compound repository. Active leads from six different chemical classes could be identihed by the 3D search, for example, compound 17 (ECso = 400nM Fig. 16.2) [91]. [Pg.388]

The same template as for compound 71 was used by Peukert et al. for a 2D similarity search in the Aventis in-house compound collection [144]. 75 Compounds with a similarity index >0.80 were biologically tested. The moderately active l-carboxy,8-sulfonamido-naphthalene (IC50 = 9.5pM), with insufficient chemical stability, was the starting point for the design of substi-... [Pg.406]

SB-366791 (18) emerged from screening an in-house library as a potent competitive inhibitor of both hTRPVl and rTRPVl, endowed with superior target selectivity compared to capsazepine [84]. Structure-activity relationships of SB-366791 remain to be reported. [Pg.159]
