Ethyl 5- isophthalate

If the MW is not m/z 166 and there is an intense ion at m/z. 149, this suggests an ester of a benzene dicarboxylic acid. If m/z 149 is the most intense ion, the mass spectrum represents a phthalate, where R is an ethyl group or larger (see Figure 28.1). The most intense ions in the mass spectra of isophthalates and terephthalates are [M - OR]+. [Pg.113]

EP-4 developed by ERDL is a very flexible polyester based on polyethylene glycol with molecular weight-200 (PEG-200), isophthalic acid (IPA) and maleic anhydride (MAn). Before its use, it is blended with styrene monomer (1 1) and cured at room temperature using cobalt naphthenate (as an accelerator) and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) peroxide (as a catalyst). This meets the requirements of the main inhibitor and is used for inhibition of DB and CMDB propellants after the application of a barrier coat (generally a rigid polyester such as PR-3). However, it is observed during manufacture of EP-4 that there is a lot of batch-to-batch variation in properties in spite of the strict quality control measures adopted during its manufacture. [Pg.299]

The reaction rate of fiimarate polyester polymers with styrene is 20 times that of similar maleate polymers. Commercial phthalic and isophthalic resins usually have fiimarate levels in excess of 95% and demonstrate full hardness and property development when catalyzed and cured. The addition polymerization reaction between the fiimarate polyester polymer and styrene monomer is initiated by free-radical catalysts, commercially usually benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), which can be dissociated by heat or redox metal activators into peroxy and hydroperoxy free radicals. [Pg.317]

Branched saturated polyester from adipic acid, phthalic anhydride, neopentyl glycol and trimethyl olpropane was mixed with BPA/DC solution in 2-methoxyethanol/ xylene and diluted with ethyl acetoacetate. A thermohardening coating with high hardness and good adhesion on steel was obtained [136]. A similar coating composition consists of BPA/DC and a polyester from adipic and isophthalic acid, trimellitic anhydride, neo pentyl glycol and trimethylolpropane [137, 138]. [Pg.57]

Orthophthalic, isophthalic, bisphenol, and chlorinated or brominated polyesters exhibit poor resistance to such solvents as acetone, carbon disulfide, toluene, trichloroethylene, trichloroethane, and methyl ethyl ketone. The vinyl esters show improved solvent resistance. Heat-cured epoxies exhibit better solvent resistance. However, the furan resins offer the best all-around solvent resistance. They excel in this area. Furan resins are capable of handling solvents in combination with acids and bases. [Pg.151]

Bongiovanni, et al., reported syntheses of fluorinated vinyl ethers (H2C==CHOCH2CH2CnF2ttfi, (n-6 or 8) and their eopolymerization with bis(4-vinyloxybutyl) isophthalate. When added in low eoneentrations (0.1-3.0 wt %) to formulations containing bis(4-vinyloxybutyl) isophthalate, they did not affeet the kinetics of the eationic photopolymerization. The eured films were transparent and showed interesting properties in terms of wettabihty, hardness, eross-eut adhesion, and ehemieal inertness. The fluoro-monomers increased the hydrophobieity of the film surface, whereas the adhesion on various substrates such as glass and wood was unchanged. An increase in the methyl ethyl ketone resistance was also observed. [Pg.176]

Thermoreversible gelation, as a consequence of crystallization from dilute solutions of random copolymers has been observed in a variety of mixtures. These include, among others, poly(vinyl chloride) in dioctyl phthalate,(55) poly-(acrylonitrile) in dimethyl formamide,(56) nitrocellulose in ethyl alcohol,(272) methyl cellulose in water,(273) ethylene copolymers,(274) syndiotactic isotactic and atactic poly(styrene),(275-279) and random copolymers of ethylene terephtha-late with isophthalate.(280) Flory and Garrett (281) have shown that the classical thermoreversible gelation system, gelatin in water, is the result of a crystal-liquid transformation. The gelation or dissolution can be treated as a first-order phase transition. [Pg.226]
