Dimethyl isophthalate

A PEIT of 50/50 (molar ratio) composition is synthesized by a two-step reaction sequence as follows. In the first step, 97.10 g (0.5 mol) dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), 97.10 g (0.5 mol) dimethyl isophthalate (DMI), 136.55 g (2.2 mol) 1,2-ethanediol, and zinc acetate dihydrate ester interchange catalyst (2.7 x 10 4% mass of the total amount of DMI and DMT mixture) are weighed into a threenecked flask fitted with a mechanical stirrer, a nitrogen inlet, and a condenser. The medium is stirred for 2.0-2.5 h at 180-210°C under nitrogen. Ninety-two percent of the theoretical amount of methanol is removed by distillation. In the second step, antimony acetate polycondensation catalyst and trimethyl phosphate thermal stabilizer (9.9 x 10-4 and 1.5 x 10 3% mass of the total amount of DMI... [Pg.106]

Phthalate esters are widespread contaminants and the dialkyl phthalates are hydrolyzed before degradation of the resulting phthalate (Eaton and Ribbons 1982), which is discussed in Chapter 8, Part 3. For dimethyl phthalate, dimethyl terephthalate, and dimethyl isophthalate only partial hydrolysis may take place (Li et al. 2005). Cocaine is hydrolyzed to benzoate and ecgonine methyl ester by a strain of Pseudomonas maltophilia (Britt et al. 1992). [Pg.569]

Aromatic polyesters were enzymatically synthesized under mild reaction conditions. Divinyl esters of isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, and p-phen-ylene diacetic acid were polymerized with glycols by lipase CA catalyst to give polyesters containing an aromatic moiety in the main chain.208 In the lipase-catalyzed polymerization of dimethyl isophthalate and 1,6-hexanediol in toluene with nitrogen bubbling, a mixture of linear and cyclic polymers was formed.209 High molecular weight aromatic polyester (Mw 5.5 x 104) was synthesized by the lipase CA-catalyzed polymerization of isophthalic acid and 1,6-hexanediol under vacuum.210 Enzymatic polymerization of divinyl esters and aromatic diols also afforded the aromatic polyesters.211... [Pg.270]

Dimethyl isophthalate is used as a plasticizer and modifier for polyethylene terephthalate, PET, and as a reactive intermediate for optical plastics. [Pg.120]
