Drivers importance

One of drivers important tasks is estimating the distance of oncoming vehicles. This is relevant when passing other vehicles, for example. While the driver has better depth perception when looking in a traditional mirror, a monitor does not deliver this information [10]. The driver rehes on information such as size, size increase, movement of vehicle geometries or light sources [4]. Accordingly, it is very important to properly reproduce these conditions. [Pg.441]

In aerospace appHcations, low density coupled with other desirable features, such as tailored thermal expansion and conductivity, high stiffness and strength, etc, ate the main drivers. Performance rather than cost is an important item. Inasmuch as continuous fiber-reinforced MMCs deUver superior performance to particle-reinforced composites, the former are ftequendy used in aerospace appHcations. In nonaerospace appHcations, cost and performance are important, ie, an optimum combination of these items is requited. It is thus understandable that particle-reinforced MMCs are increa singly finding appHcations in nonaerospace appHcations. [Pg.204]

Basic to establishing whether power recovery is even feasible, let alone economical, are considerations of the flowing-fluid capacity available, the differential pressure available for the power recovery, and corrosive or erosive properties of the fluid stream. A further important consideration in feasibihty and economics is the probable physical location, with respect to each other, of fluid source, power-production point, and final fluid destination. In general, the tendency has been to locate the power-recoveiy driver and its driven unit where dictated by the driven-unit requirement and pipe the power-recoveiy fluid to and away from the driver. While early installations were in noncorrosive, nonerosive services such as rich-hydrocarbon absorption oil, the trend has been to put units into mildly severe seiwices such as amine plants, hot-carbonate units, and hydrocracker letdown. [Pg.2524]

Pump shaft and driver shaft alignment is very important for long useful equipment life, and to extend the running time between repairs. Besides, good alignment reduees the progressive degradation of the pump. [Pg.142]

Just as compressors are an indispensable element of the turbotrain of which the hot gas expander is a part, so is the principal driver. Therefore, the following briefly highlights the more important aspects of these drivers. [Pg.114]

Selecting the SMPS controller IC. The important factors within this application that affect the choice of switching power supply controller IC are MOSFET driver needed (totem-pole driver), single-ended output, 50 percent duty cycle limit desired, and current-mode control desired. The popular industry choice that meets these needs is the UC3845B. [Pg.117]

In the last chapter we discussed the importance of well-defined roles. This holds true for the inspection team. For many larger sites a union contract may exist that may specify who participates in the inspec-tion/audit process. At smaller sites, this may be open-ended. We believe that the personnel make-up of an inspection team should depend on the size, complexity, number of employees, and on-site hazards at the site in question. Again, preplanning coupled with a common-sense approach should be the driver. [Pg.92]

The toughness of a material is a design driver in many structures subjected to impact loading. For those materials that must function under a wide range of temperatures, the temperature dependence of the various material properties is often of primary concern. Other structures are subjected to wear or corrosion, so the resistance of a material to those attacks is an important part of the material choice. Thermal and electrical conductivity can be design drivers for some applications, so materials with proper ranges of behavior for those factors must be chosen. Similarly, the acoustical and thermal insulation characteristics of materials often dictate the choice of materials. [Pg.390]

Suppose we change our attention from structures in which the driver is functional consideration alone to something like an automobile where cost is also extremely important. We can get the functional job done with other materials, like steel and aluminum and fiberglass in certain places and unreinforced plastic in others. Then, the question becomes can we make a material substitution that will enable us to compete with the cost of these other materials to do a job that with all the other materials we cannot accomplish That is a different kind of question, and then cost becomes an extremely important driver. And, as cost of advanced composite structures goes down, we can expect to see more and more utilization of advanced composite materials. [Pg.464]

It can be seen from Equation 11-7 that as R is increased, and as clearance is incre ised, volumetric efficiency is reduced. The relationship of volumetric efficiency and clearance is important, because it allows variable clearances (both fixed volume and adjustable volume pockets) to be used to control capacity and obtain the maximum use of available driver horsepower. [Pg.309]

For catastrophic demand-related pump failures, the variability is explained by the following factors listed in their order of importance system application, pump driver, operating mode, reactor type, pump type, and unidentified plant-specific influences. Quantitative failure rate adjustments are provided for the effects of these factors. In the case of catastrophic time-dependent pump failures, the failure rate variability is explained by three factors reactor type, pump driver, and unidentified plant-specific Influences. Point and confidence interval failure rate estimates are provided for each selected pump by considering the influential factors. Both types of estimates represent an improvement over the estimates computed exclusively from the data on each pump. The coded IPRDS data used in the analysis is provided in an appendix. A similar treatment applies to the valve data. [Pg.104]

It is important, especially when consistency has not been designed or built into the maintenance reporting system, to review the data reported to minimize misinterpretation. Clearly defined equipment boundaries for plant hardware are essential for the generation of relevant data. For example, one classification method may define pumps as only the mechanical portions of the pump, whereas another may include the driver (e.g., the motor) and associated controls. Interviews with operating and maintenance personnel as well as review of the maintenance procedures and documents can provide insight into the... [Pg.216]

Higher incomes, higher automobile ownership, and a decline in the population and workplaces that can be sciwcd by mass transit has lead to the declining mass transit demand. Criticism of this shift toward the private automobile comes mainly because the individual driver receives the short-term benefits (privacy, comfort, speed, and convenience), while the negative social consequences (air pollution, traffic jams, and resource depletion) are shared by all. Moreover, if people drove less, and drove more-fuel-efficient vehicles, the positive national goal of less dependence on imported oil would be achieved. [Pg.134]

Because of the magnitude of the task of preparing the material for this new edition in proper detail, it has been necessary to omit several important topics that were covered in the previous edition. Topics such as corrosion and metallurgy, cost estimating, and economics are now left to the more specialized works of several fine authors. The topic of static electricity, however, is treated in the chapter on process safety, and the topic of mechanical drivers, which includes electric motors, is covered in a separate chapter because many specific items of process equipment require some type of electrical or mechanical driver. Even though some topics cannot be covered here, the author hopes that the designer will find design techniques adaptable to 75 percent to 85-1- percent of required applications and problems. [Pg.644]

In establishing specifications, the first important items to identify from the plant process material balance are normal, maximum, and minimum intake or suction flow rates together with corresponding conditions of temperature and pressure. The required discharge pressure must be established. If it is necessary or important to be able to operate at reduced or over-normal flow rates, these should be identified for the manufacturer, together with the length of time of such expected condition e.g., full time at one-half rate, 20 minutes out of every hour at 10% over normal, etc. These operating requirements may separate the types of equipment. Because it is uneconomical to purchase horsepower that cannot be used by the fluid system, ask that the manufacturer state the maximum load and/or conditions that will fully load the available horsepower of the compressor-driver unit. [Pg.370]

This type of blade is well suited to streamline flow conditions and is used extensively on ventilating, air conditioning, and clean and dirty process gas streams. The backward blade does not catch dirt easily. The outstanding and important characteristic is the nonoverloading horsepower. This is the only commonly used blade style with this feature. It is important in process control and eliminates the need for oversized motors or other drivers. Speed of operation is high, which allows direct or belt connection to the driver. Certain streamlined blade designs provide the same basic characteristics with more efficient and quieter operation. The usual... [Pg.550]

The in-line impeller configuration generates high axial thrusting, which increases the importance of the axial (Z-axis) measurement point. That point should be on the fixed bearing and oriented toward the driver. [Pg.721]

Driver alignment is extremely important and periodic checks should be performed. Pipe strain can also damage pumps, bearings, and seals. [Pg.952]

This module discusses two important drive-train components couplings and clutches. Each of these components is used to connect a driver (i.e., power source) shaft to the shaft of the driven unit. Such a connection allows torsional force to be converted into work in the driven unit. Keys and keyways, which are required to prevent slippage and to guarantee positive power with such connections, are also discussed. [Pg.991]

The upper limit for passive matrix OLEDs thus depends on many factors, including the reverse current of the diodes, the current delivery of the row drivers, the roll-off in OLED power efficiency, and the brightness and contrast ratio requirements of the application. The practical limit is probably less than VGA resolution (480 rows by 640 x 3 columns, where the factor of 3 reflects the RGB subpixels for color) for power-sensitive portable applications. However, such considerations are less important where a wall-plug is available and one company in Japan (Idemitsu Kosan [190]) has demonstrated full color television using passive OLED arrays. [Pg.239]

Here we revisit two important topics in limnology just to show that climate change studies that only include data from lakes are not applicable to reservoirs. Firstly, we show that temperature trends in reservoirs and lakes cannot be interpreted in the same way. Secondly, we show that drivers of the deep-water oxygen content in reservoirs and lakes can be very different. This last analysis will be used in the following section as the starting point for a new framework for climate change impact studies in reservoirs. [Pg.78]
