Power efficiency

Performance is described in a variety of ways depending on the desired appHcation of the LED. The power efficiency, P, of a LED is the ratio of the output power to the power input to the device, and can be expressed as... [Pg.119]

Typical light output versus current (L—I) and efficiency curves for double heterostmcture TS AlGaAs LEDs lamps are shown in Eigure 8. The ir LED (Eig. 8a) is typically used for wireless communications appHcations. As a result, the light output is measured in radiometric units (mW) and the efficiencies of interest are the external quantum efficiency (rj y. = C y., photons out/electrons in) and power efficiency. As a result of the direct band gap... [Pg.120]

The family of short curves in Fig. 29-45 shows the power efficiency of conventional refrigeration systems. The curves for the latter are taken from the Engineering Data Book, Gas Processors Suppliers Association, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The data refer to the evaporator temperature as the point at which refrigeration is removed. If the refrigeration is used to cool a stream over a temperature interval, the efficiency is obviously somewhat less. The short curves in Fig. 29-45 are for several refrigeration-temperature intervals. A comparison of these curves with the expander curve shows that the refrigeration power requirement by expansion compares favorably with mechanical refrigeration below 360° R (—100° F). The expander efficiency is favored by lower temperature at which heat is to be removed. [Pg.2520]

In the 1960s, physicists such as Richard Feynman and Caiwer Mead showed that the speed and power efficiency of machines can improve with decreasing... [Pg.810]

The preceding section reviewed the application of popular prime movers for the generation of electrical power only. In the conversion of fuel energy to electricity it is shown that heat is rejected, either in the exhaust of a diesel or gas turbine or, alternatively, in the condenser of a thermal power plant. It can be seen that by applying these machines to provide both heat and electricity the total energy recovery can be much greater and efficiency thereby improved. Combined heat and power (CHP) schemes of this nature are well-established methods of producing both heat and power efficiently and economically. [Pg.184]

Factory tests establish the pressure head, power, efficiency and NPSH over the complete flow range the pump can deliver running at design speed. British Standard, DIN standard or ANSI standard codes or national variations from such main codes lay down the manner of test procedure, and a minimum requirement is quite often defined by industry codes such as API 610. This is not the place to discuss instrument accuracy, as the codes lay down the limits possible from conventional instruments. There are two main classes of test the commercial requirements normally possible in the maker s test plant and high-accuracy tests that are only possible by using substandard instruments and very sophisticated techniques. [Pg.516]

From an engineering point of view, a more relevant figure-of-meril is the power efficiency t]r(J), defined as the ratio of emitted optical power to the driving electrical power. It is given by ... [Pg.228]

The upper limit for passive matrix OLEDs thus depends on many factors, including the reverse current of the diodes, the current delivery of the row drivers, the roll-off in OLED power efficiency, and the brightness and contrast ratio requirements of the application. The practical limit is probably less than VGA resolution (480 rows by 640 x 3 columns, where the factor of 3 reflects the RGB subpixels for color) for power-sensitive portable applications. However, such considerations are less important where a wall-plug is available and one company in Japan (Idemitsu Kosan [190]) has demonstrated full color television using passive OLED arrays. [Pg.239]

Comparison of the spectral response and of the power efficiency of these first conjugated polymer/fullerene bilayer devices with single layer pure conjugated polymer devices showed that the large potential of the photoinduced charge transfer of a donor-acceptor system was not fully exploited in the bilayers. The devices still suffer from antibatic behavior as well as from a low power conversion efficiency. However, the diode behavior, i.e. the rectification of these devices, was excellent. [Pg.284]

The excellent photosensitivity and relatively high energy conversion efficiencies obtained from the bulk hetcrojunction materials arc promising. The monochromatic power efficiencies for conjugated polymer photovoltaic devices are around... [Pg.602]

Obviously a compound registration system is already a fundamental part of the informatics infrastructure for any pharmaceutical company. However, there is a powerful efficiency gain in not having scientists input information twice into different systems the reaction information into the ELN and then the product molecules into the registration system. One would rather have a mechanism of pushing the product molecule information from the ELN to the registration system. The obvious corollary to this is to have the ability to retrieve compound information from the registration system and have it automatically entered into the ELN—an example would be for the scientist to... [Pg.222]

Reduction of carbon dioxide takes place at various metal electrodes. The main products are formic acid in aqueous solutions and oxalate, CO, and formic acid in nonaqueous solutions. An indium electrode is the most potential saving for C02 reduction. Due to the difference in optimum conditions between those for C02 reduction to formic acid and those for formic acid reduction to further reduced products, direct reduction of C02 in aqueous solutions without a catalyst to highly reduced products seems to be difficult at metal electrodes. However, catalytic effects of metal electrodes themselves have recently become more clear for example, on Cu, methane was detected, while on Ag and Au, CO was produced effectively in aqueous solutions. Furthermore, at a Mo electrode, methanol was obtained. The power efficiency is, however, still low at any electrode. [Pg.390]
