Process requirements, equipment

Many processes require equipment designed to rigid specifications together with automatic control and safety devices. Consideration should be given to the control, and limitation of the effects, of equipment malfunction or maloperation including ... [Pg.253]

Although IPE contains over 250 equipment types, many processes require equipment that is not on the list of available project components. Also, in some cases the user will want to specify a certain make or model of equipment that may be available only in discrete sizes (for example, gas turbine engines or large pumps and compressors). In these situations, the nonstandard equipment can be included by setting up an Equipment Model Library (EML). Many companies maintain standard EMLs listing equipment that they often specify. [Pg.332]

Spent or black pulping liquors contain 10<7o to 20 o solids and must be concentrated to a solids content exceeding 50% in order to maintain burning in recovery furnaces. The liquor from the acid sulfite process requires equipment that will resist corrosion and be unaffected by scaling, but extractives in the liquor do not affect concentration or burning. [Pg.910]

Having defined and gathered data adequate for an initial reserves estimation, the next step is to look at the various options to develop the field. The objective of the feasibility study is to document various technical options, of which at least one should be economically viable. The study will contain the subsurface development options, the process design, equipment sizes, the proposed locations (e.g. offshore platforms), and the crude evacuation and export system. The cases considered will be accompanied by a cost estimate and planning schedule. Such a document gives a complete overview of all the requirements, opportunities, risks and constraints. [Pg.5]

Though the type of processing required is largely dependent upon fluid composition at the wellhead, the equipment employed is significantly influenced by location whether for example the facilities are based on land or offshore, in tropical or arctic environments. Sometimes conditions are such that a process which is difficult or expensive to perform offshore can be exported to the coast and handled much more easily on land. [Pg.235]

The LPI process with its great variety of processes required the QAP to be developped in a modular way and its functions have always to be adapted to the special equipment. [Pg.629]

As the parison is extmded, the melt is free to swell and sag. The process requires a viscous resin with consistent swell and sag melt properties. For a large container the machine is usually equipped with a cylinder and a piston called an accumulator. The accumulator is filled with melt from the extmder and emptied at a much faster rate to form a large parison this minimises the sag of the molten tube. [Pg.143]

There are advantages and disadvantages in both processes the solvent process requires no special equipment but uses an excess of benzene whose recovery adds to the cost of the product. The bad mill method uses no excess benzene but requires special equipment which has frequent mechanical problems. [Pg.423]

Any manufacturing process requiring refractories depends on proper selection and installation. When selecting refractories, environmental conditions are evaluated first, then the functions to be served, and finally the expected length of service. AH factors pertaining to the operation, service design, and constmction of equipment must be related to the physical and chemical properties of the various classes of refractories (35). [Pg.36]

Demineralization. Softening alone is insufficient for most high-pressure boiler feed waters and for many process streams, especially those used in the manufacture of electronics equipment. In addition to the removal of hardness, these processes require removal of all dissolved soHds, such as sodium, sihca, alkalinity, and the mineral anions (Cl , and NO ). [Pg.260]

The processes using physical absorption require a solvent circulation proportional to the quantity of process gas, inversely proportional to the pressure, and nearly independent of the carbon dioxide concentration. Therefore, high pressures could favor the use of these processes. The Recitsol process requires a refrigeration system and more equipment than the other processes. This process is primarily used in coal gasification for simultaneous removal of H2S, COS, and CO2. [Pg.22]

The process requires considerable equipment, and skills ia castiag must be acquired. Coatiauous castiag is useflil where souadness and high volume of parts are needed. The process is also used to produce shapes, such as billets, bars, and cakes, as starting materials for the wrought-product iadustry. [Pg.245]

Electrochemical processes require feedstock preparation for the electrolytic cells. Additionally, the electrolysis product usually requires further processing. This often involves additional equipment, as is demonstrated by the flow diagram shown in Figure 1 for a membrane chlor-alkali cell process (see Alkali AND chlorine products). Only the electrolytic cells and components ate discussed herein. [Pg.69]

Selection of Equipment The principal factors which influence mixing-equipment choice are (1) the process requirements, (2) the flow properties of the process fluids, (3) equipment costs, and (4) construction materials required. [Pg.1630]

Ideally, the equipment chosen should be that of the lowest total cost which meets all process requirements. The total cost includes depreciation on investment, operating cost such as power, and maintenance costs. Rarely is any more than a superficial evaluation based on this... [Pg.1630]

The types of sedimentation encountered in process technology will be greatly affected not only by the obvious factors—particle size, hquid viscosity, sohd and solution densities—but also by the characteristics of the particles within the shiny. These properties, as well as the process requirements, will help determine both the type of equipment which will achieve the desired ends most effectively and the testing methods to be used to select the equipment. [Pg.1678]

Fluiaized-Bea Boilers As explained in the earlier discussion of coal combustion equipment, the furnace of a fluid-bed boiler has a unique design. The system as a whole, however, consists mainly of standard equipment items, adapted to suit process requirements. The... [Pg.2398]

Analyst Analysts must have a firm understanding of the operation of the unit. If they are not involved in the day-to-day operation or responsible for the unit, more preliminaiy work including process familiarization, equipment familiarization, operator interviews, and constraint hmitations will be required. Even when an analyst is responsible, a review is necessaiy. Analysts must firmly estabhsh the purpose of the unit test. Different levels require different budgets, personnel, and unit commitment. Additional resources beyond that required for routine measurements must be justified against the value of the measurements to the establishment of the understanding of the plant operation. [Pg.2559]

Did any chemical used/produced m the process require use of special personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling ... [Pg.148]
