The scanner has been constructed in modules which, for future applications, makes it easy to increase the length of the scanner for inspection of larger blades, by adding further modules to the system. In co-operation with LM Glasfiber and RIS0 it was decided to construct the first scatmer for inspection of blades with a length of max. 21m. In order to be able to scan primarily the bonded areas from the root to the tip of the rotor blade, a so-called X-unit module was constructed. The movement from the root to the tip of the blade was controlled by the P-scan system.

This induced an increasing number of papers devoted to the study of the hydrogen effect on the mechanical properties of titanium alloys -lo SQjjjg interesting effects of hydrogen in titanium and its alloys are discussed below on the basis of the experimental data obtained at ISSP RAS (the early experiments were carried out in co-operation with the Institute of Metal Physics UD RAS). 

A remarkable level of activity can be seen in China. The National Research Center for CRM (NRCCRM) was founded in 1980 and the certification and accreditation program for CBW RMs started in 1983 by co-operation with many Chinese Institutions. BTG has invented a Residual HP and Catalase activity detector, which has been further developed in co-operation with BIM to a complete control-system for DIP water systems. Now it is possible to balance on that rope to keep the RHP with a minimum of added Cell link and still have a complete control over the microbes. This system will detect any variations in incoming water or buffer water and it will act according to that. 

A survey was recently conducted by Cranfield University School of Water Sciences in co-operation with the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group to identify current trends in UK pool water treatment practice. About 500 pools, largely publically-run, were surveyed. 

Working co-operatively with others, we have found some indication that certain alilphatic linkages between aromatic nucleii are involved in the rapid dissolution of coal. The absolute aliphatic hydrogen content as determined by P. Solomon using FTIR (22) shows a very good linear relationship with conversion of coal in 3 minutes to pyridine soluble materials (Figure 14a).

In co-operation with a German chemical company, a recipe-driven batch process was modelled and simulated using PPSiM. In the simulation study, different pipeless plant scenarios were tested and evaluated. The plant under consideration produces a set of consumer care products. 

From the four case studies several suggestions for improvement were made, according to the identified latent conditions and specific precursors. However, the implementation and validation of these suggestions was not performed and are recognised as steps still missing in the final validation of the 7-stage protocol. The analysis was performed in close co-operation with company employees and the remedies implemented were derived together with the employees. As Schein (Schein, 1999) clearly states, the success of the remedies depends heavily upon the involvement of the company employees, because they know what will work and are ultimately responsible for the implemented remedy and its consequences. 

Apart from this thesis, the PhD work resulted in a number of papers that have been presented at international conferences and published in various international journals. The research was performed in co-operation with various companies in the Dutch chemical industry and the department of industrial safety at TNO. While TNO will continue with the results of this research, Patrick starts working for SABIC Euro Petrochemicals B.V., from the 1st of March onwards. 

For HCI electrolysis the cathodic reaction product is water, which is easily drained through the ODC without affecting the membrane water content. Consequently, the ODC can be attached directly to the membrane and pressure compensation is not necessary. The cell concept, which was developed in another co-operation with DeNora, could not be simpler - the basic cell principle is shown in Fig. 4.6. Initial laboratory tests conducted in 1994 at Bayer on the basis of old GE developments [4] demonstrated the feasibility of HCI electrolysis with ODC and the potential for a reduction of the cell voltage to about one-third of present values. 

KU, in co-operation with a German battery manufacturer, managed within a short time to produce silver GDE with a low PTFE content and to adapt them to the chlor-alkali technology in test cells.
