Doxorubicin hydrochloride

The chemotherapy of advanced Hodgkin s disease is one of the best examples of successful combination chemotherapy. Combination therapy with the MOPP regimen (mechlorethamine, Oncovin [vincristine sulfate], procarbazine, prednisone), alternating with ABVD (Adriamycin [doxorubicin hydrochloride], bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine), has resulted in cure rates of 50 to 60%. [Pg.635]

Drugs whose decomposition rates are influenced by the pH include doxorubicin hydrochloride (47), minoxidil (48), menadione sodium bisulfite (67), metronidazole (68), riboflavin (69), colchicine (70), tetracycline hydrochloride (71), phenobarbital (72), dacarbazine (73), furosemide (74), daunorubicin hydrochloride (75), and demeclo-cycline hydrochloride (76). Figures 3 to 6 illustrate how the pH of the solution can influence the degradation rate of some of the reported photolabile drugs. [Pg.351]

Ferdous and Asker (76) found that demeclocycline hydrochloride solution degraded more in clear than in amber glass vials when exposed to fluorescent radiation from cool white fluorescent tubes. Amber glass was also found to provide better protection for solutions of doxorubicin hydrochloride (47), minoxidil (48), and furosemide (74). Figures 15 and 16 illustrate the effect of type of glass on photodegradation of furosemide and democlocycline hydrochloride, respectively. [Pg.364]

Various UV absorbers have been used to protect photolabile solutions of drugs. p-Aminobenzoic acid absorbs UV radiation in the 360 to 313 nm UV region. Evidence of its photoprotective ability has been reported for solutions of colchicine (70), tetracycline hydrochloride (71), doxorubicin hydrochloride (77), and reserpine (106). [Pg.366]

Urocanic acid is considered one of the major absorbers of UV radiation in the epidermis with a at 278 nm at pH 7 (110) and therefore functions as a natural sunscreen (111). Habib and Asker (77) found that urocanic acid significantly enhanced the photostability of doxorubicin hydrochloride solutions. [Pg.366]

Uric acid in very low concentrations, very strongly absorbs UV radiation and for this reason, has been used to protect various FD C colors against fading when they will be probably exposed to direct sunlight (112). Uric acid has been found to enhance the photostability of solutions of colchicine (70) and FD C Blue No. 2 (82,113). Sodium urate, the neutral salt of uric acid, has a photoprotective effect on solutions of metronidazole (68), doxorubicin hydrochloride (77), and physostigmine sulfate (108). In addition to its photon-absorbing property, uric acid has been reported to also possess antioxidant quality (114). [Pg.366]

Sodium thiosulfate, however, is detrimental to the photostability of solutions of furosemide (74) and doxorubicin hydrochloride (77). [Pg.369]

In addition to dl-methionine, other amino acids also enhance the photostability of some drugs. Glycine was found to increase the photostability of doxorubicin hydrochloride (77) and furosemide (74). Dl-cysteine significantly increases the photostability of tetracycline hydrochloride (71). [Pg.369]
