Corrosion resistant tanks

Parts with fiber volume fractions up to 60% can be fabricated by filament winding. The procedure is often used to manufacture composite rocket motors, corrosion-resistant tanks and storage containers, and piping for below-ground appHcations. [Pg.8]

Alums and many solution polymers, or polymers dissolved in water, are corrosive therefore, use corrosion-resistant tanks. [Pg.319]

Polyester laminating resins usually consist of an unsaturated ester polymer dissolved in a monomer such as styrene. One of the chief virtues of these resins is the excellent chemical resistance of the laminates. Hence, they are used for corrosion resistant tanks, exhaust ducts, scrabbers, and plating equipment. These materials resist acids and bases for long periods at 94°C. They are attacked by most chlorinated solvents. A closely related polymer family, the vinyl esters, has even more superior chemical resistance and some processing advantages. [Pg.313]

HR is not miscible with general-purpose rubbers because of its dissimilar structure and quite different cure rate, so that blends with these rubbers are not of practical interest. HR can be blended in any ratio with PIB and with halogenated butyl rubbers (having quite similar structure). Compounds of HR with polyolefins (LDPE), and particularly with PIB, are encountered in some appKcations (sheetings, corrosion resistant tank linings). EP(D)M can also be blended with HR blends of HR -I- EPDM are recommended in the production of inner tubes. [Pg.873]

Concept 2 requires only moderate infrastructural changes (exchange of some gasket and hose materials, corrosion resistive tank and tube materials, spill collection, vapor collection). This concept would also allow the introduction of renewable energy from biomass or via hydrogenation of CO2. [Pg.81]

Corrosion Resistant Fiber-Reinforced Plastic (FRP). Fiber glass reinforcement bonded with furfuryl alcohol thermosetting resias provides plastics with unique properties. Excellent resistance to corrosion and heat distortion coupled with low flame spread and low smoke emission are characteristics that make them valuable as laminating resins with fiber glass (75,76). Another valuable property of furan FRP is its strength at elevated temperature. Hand-layup, spray-up, and filament-win ding techniques are employed to produce an array of corrosion-resistant equipment, pipes, tanks, vats, ducts, scmbbers, stacks, and reaction vessels for industrial appHcations throughout the world. [Pg.81]

Liquids. Approximately 170,000 railroad tank cars are used in the United States. The interior surfaces of these cars are tailored to carry a wide variety of products and are constmcted of steel which is either unlined or lined with materials to enhance the chemical compatibiUty with a specific product these lining materials include synthetic mbber, phenoHc or modified epoxy resins, or corrosion-resistant materials such as aluminum, nickel-bearing steel, or stainless steel. [Pg.511]

Liquid polyalurninum chloride is acidic and corrosive to common metals. Suitable materials for constmction of storage and handling facilities include synthetic mbber-lined steel, corrosion resistant fiber glass reinforced plastics (FRP), ceramics, tetrafluoroethylene polymer (PTFE), poly(vinyhdene fluoride) (PVDF), polyethylene, polypropylene, and poly(vinyl chloride) (PVG). Suitable shipping containers include mbber-lined tank tmcks and rail cars for bulk shipment and plastic-lined or aH-plastic dmms and tote bins for smaller quantities. Except for aluminum chlorohydrates, PAG products are shipped as hazardous substances because of their acidity. [Pg.180]

Acid corrosion presents a problem in isopropyl alcohol factories. Steel (qv) is a satisfactory material of constmction for tanks, lines, and columns where concentrated (>65 wt%) acid and moderate (<60° C) temperatures are employed. For dilute acid and higher temperatures, however, stainless steel, tantalum, HasteUoy, and the like are required for corrosion resistance and to ensure product purity (65). [Pg.108]

Aluminum geodesic dome roof tanks are becoming popular. These are often the economic choice. They offer superior corrosion resistance for a wide range of conditions, and are clear span stmctures not requiring internal supports. They can also be built to any required diameter. However, domes caimot handle more than a few inches of water column internal or external pressure. [Pg.313]

Corrosion. Copper-base alloys are seriously corroded by sodium thiosulfate (22) and ammonium thiosulfate [7783-18-8] (23). Corrosion rates exceed 10 kg/(m yr) at 100°C. High siUcon cast iron has reasonable corrosion resistance to thiosulfates, with a corrosion rate <4.4 kg/(m yr)) at 100°C. The preferred material of constmction for pumps, piping, reactors, and storage tanks is austenitic stainless steels such as 304, 316, or Alloy 20. The corrosion rate for stainless steels is <440 g/(m yr) at 100°C (see also Corrosion and corrosion control). [Pg.27]

The thermal stabiUty of epoxy phenol—novolak resins is useful in adhesives, stmctural and electrical laminates, coatings, castings, and encapsulations for elevated temperature service (Table 3). Filament-wound pipe and storage tanks, liners for pumps and other chemical process equipment, and corrosion-resistant coatings are typical appHcations using the chemically resistant properties of epoxy novolak resins. [Pg.364]
