In this chapter, a brief history of the emergence of production and industrial engineering is presented. Significant developments in its evolution, education and course structure, and the profession of production and industrial engineering are highlighted. New technologies and their possible application for improving productivity and quality of product, process, and service are briefly discussed.

My attempt of depicting the new frontiers for Quantum Chemistry has no produced exhaustive and detailed indications. It is almost impossible to present in a few pages indications of this type, of questionable validity even tf expressed as final report of a panel of experts, after a hard collective work on this theme. Quantum Chemistry is in fact one of the cornerstones of Chemis, enjoying good health as the other branches of Chemistry, and there are ample and varied perspectives of progress. A selection of some themes woitld means to indulge too much to personal tastes.

Scientific progress is based ultimately on unification rather than fragmentation of knowledge. The important sub-disciplines of a scientific discipline have been altogether too loosely coupled to the frontier in the first place, and this has compromised their ability to take the next step forward. The time is upon us to recognize that the new frontier is the interface, wherever it remains unexplored (Kafatos and Eisner 2004). 

The new frontiers of hydrogen energy systems described in this paper will be PEM-electrolysis combined with renewable energy sources, biolysis with use of biological methods based on the genetics, and mechanolysis combined with any moving phenomenon and object, in hydrogen production area. 

PEM fuel cells and chemical heat pump will be the new frontiers in the hydrogen utilization systems. However, if hydrogen protein can be biologically created, it will be a great gospel for mankind.

Carbodiimides are the diimides derived from carbon dioxide, and they are extensively used in the formation of peptide amide bonds from carboxylic acids and amines. This reaction was utilized by the Nobel laureate Sheehan in the total synthesis of penicillin. He also was the first to use water soluble carbodiimides to crosslink gelatin. Khorana, another Nobel laureate, demonstrated that carbodiimides can also be used in the synthesis of nucleotides. Due to the relative ease of access to plants, plant-derived materials have been in the majority as far as sources are concerned, with microbial sources being especially important in the antibiotic area. Recent work suggests that marine organisms will play an increasingly important role in the future, especially with the increasing power of organic synthesis to address the supply problems inherent with this source material. In the future, with the advent of genetic techniques that permit the isolation and expression of biosynthetic cassettes, microbes and their marine invertebrate hosts may well be the new frontier for natural products.
