Design, development, and system build is normally a period of intense activity, in which a supplier will be involved in life-cycle activities and will need to provide a set of auditable design and development documentation to support the validation program. For this, the entire design and development process should be carried out to written and approved procedures, and all design, development, testing, and verification activities should be documented and approved in order to provide a level of computer system documentation that can be used to support the pharmaceutical manufacturer s life-cycle qualification activities. 

To address this level of testing the FDS should outline the calibration, testing, and verification needs of the computer system to ensure conformance with the manufacturing design data, and in particular the critical process parameters. For this the FDS needs to consider ... 

The IQ testing will require a number of test and verification procedures to be satisfactorily carried out and documented to ensure all components of the computer system are correcdy installed and recorded, demonstrating that the computer system is in a state of readiness to proceed to OQ. Each document that is prepared for a validation program must be approved by all responsible parties. Documents that require data collection must also be approved after the completion of all required tests and verifications. 

The amount of testing and verification carried out depends largely on the importance of the part being produced and its future function. An end stop for a tube may only need the appearance, hardness, and the fact that it will correctly fit the tube checked. A flexible mounting of similar size also will need extensive testing to prove that it has the correct dynamic properties and can take the load and vibrations and not fail due to excessive heat buildup. 

There should be established points in the process that are used as test and verification points to evaluate the successful execution of that stage of the production operation. Timely indications of a problem early in the process can save time, money, and possibly the lot. Ensure that these in-process checkpoints are valid and effectively evaluate the process at critical junctures. 

Admittedly, in the strictly theoretical sense, such a verification is a necessary but not sufficient requirement for the model to be the true model. It should be obvious to readers familiar with current research work on the nitration of aromatic compounds that the assumptions and mechanisms on which this model is based are under debate, albeit generally accepted. Exhaustive testing and verification of a model is usually not justifiable in a business... 

Medical Many types of medical devices rely on adhesives for assembly. Medical device manufacturing requires that the final product exhibit maximum reliability and performance under many conditions that are not common in other industries. As a result, manufacturers of medical devices require significant testing and verification prior to choosing an adhesive. The standards and regulations in this industry are much different from those of other industries. The nature of the medical device market also dictates that the adhesive be economical and amenable to high-volume manufacturing methods. 

To clarify things neither type tests and verifications nor routine tests are the point of this chapter, but inspection and maintenance procedures after installation and before or during service. These procedures shall be done -and this is a general rule - by qualified personnel, who are experienced in the various types of explosion protection, installation practices and rules and the principles of area classification.

Preferably, tests and documentation of results should be done automatically, always using the same set of test files. In this way users are encouraged to perform the tests more frequently, and user-specific errors are eliminated. In some cases, vendors provide test files and automated test routines for verification of a computer system s performance in the user s laboratory. Needless to say, the correct functioning of this software should also be verified. This can easily be done by changing the method or data file and rerunning the test. The report should indicate an error. If such automated verification software is not available, the execution of the tests and verification of actual results with prerecorded results can be done manually. 

Sensitivity tests and verification of this approach of NWP urbanisation were performed by Baklanov et al [37, 38] using the DMT-HTRT.AM research version (1,4-km resolution) for the Copenhagen (CPH, Denmark) and Malmo (MAL, Sweden) metropolitan areas and surroundings. An overview of relativistic state-of-the-art calculations on electric field gradients (EFG) in atoms and molecules neccessary for the determination of nuclear quadrupole moments (NQM) is presented. Especially for heavy elements four-component calculations are the method of choice due to the strong weighting of the core region by the EFG operator and the concomitant importance of relativity. Table 1 provides a useful context in which to discuss typictd measurement problems. There are two classes of problems of interest. The first class is planning too late, where, for example, failure to plan for assessing acceptability can preclude measurement prior to putting a product into use. The second class of problems is executing too early, where, for instance, demonstrations are executed prior to resolving test and verification issues, and potentitilly lead to negative initial impressions of a product or system. 

There may be differences for test and verification for different SILs. See 12.7.2.3 of this part for guidance. 

With regard to guidance on selection of application software test and verification methods and techniques, systems with a safety requirement up to SIL 3 should be verified in accordance with the guidance given in 12.7. For SIL 4 systems, the verifier should also confirm that the selected methods do oonform with the requirements of lEC 61508-3. 

Testing and verification of the ISS have involved a number of unique requirements and constraints. The major contributing factors include the on-orbit assembly process, the series of vehicle stages defining the incremental steps in the assembly process (each with unique functional performance requirements), and the requirement to operate and support human activity under the extreme environmental conditions of space. Add to this that the system is designed, built, and deployed by a consortium of 16 nations, and its parts delivered to their final assembly location by the most complex space vehicle ever built (the Space Shuttle), and the result is arguably the most difficult test and verification program ever attempted. 

Current trends in macroeconomics, defense systems, and advanced communications seem to suggest that large, complex, multinational enterprises like the ISS will become increasingly important over the decades to come. Here I have outlined a variety of unique systems engineering challenges associated with the development of the ISS, including the protracted development cycle, test and verification requirements, and infrastructure considerations.
