Shortly after the Supply Control System was inaugurated, the War Department revised its troop basis to include about 13,000 organizations. The Materiel Planning Branch computed requirements for these units on a Table of Allowances basis. It used a key punch multiplier to obtain the gross requirement of chemical warfare items by multiplying the number of units, organizations, and individuals on the current troop basis by the stated number of items listed for the unit, organization, or individual on the Tables of Allowances. [Pg.305]

The gross requirement was the keystone on which estimates were based under the Supply Control System. Another move to improve the spare parts situation came with the inauguration of the Supply Control System. Solid-State DC Drives. The controlled-thyristor rectifier and separate-field DC motor is the solid-state motor drive in greatest use. The combination provides control over at least a 10 1 speed range, plus an additional two to three times by field weakening. Depending upon the power level, the rectifier is operated directly from the AC supply lines, or via a transformer. Typical speed regulation of 2% can be accomplished with a single control system. The horsepower and speed limitations are set by the DC motor, not by the semiconductor rectifiers. The DC motor and rectifier can be combined to any required power level. [Pg.419]

Capacitors as bulk units can be connected to the supply busbar via a fuse switch, molded-case circuit breaker of air circuit breaker. In this type of installation control is purely manual, and in cases of a reasonably constant load and where the amount of power factor correction is limited such a manually controlled system is perfectly adequate.
