Permanent Connections

Inasmuch as the gas hydroly2es readily, all equipment should be purged repeatedly using inert dry gas before admitting boron trifluoride. Under anhydrous conditions, carbon steel equipment is satisfactory. Stainless steel and aluminum siUcon bron2e may also be used. Stainless steel tubing is recommended for both temporary and permanent connections. 

Identify the likely variations in load and p.f. during a 24-hour period. Maintain a minimum fixed kVAr permanently connected in the system, at the distribution point for the likely constant loads. For the rest, the banks may be selected so that only one or two are sufficient to control the whole system for the desired p.f. level or system regulation. This will also limit operations of the banks to only three or four a day and less than a thousand during a year, as recommended in Section 26.1(2). Control may now be carried out ... 

The series capacitors tire connected in series with the power lines to provide reactive control to an individual load or to a power distribution or transmission system. They are therefore switched with the pow er lines and are thus permanently connected devices. 

If the protection current becomes too high due to this connection in cathodi-cally protected tank installations, then insulating joints are usually installed in the pipeline from the filling nozzle. Care must be taken that the continuity bond is not broken. If there is a danger of stray currents with dc railways due to a permanent connection between track and filling equipment, the continuity bond should be applied only during the filling process. 

Several 25 mm valved stubs should be provided at appropriate points in the header, to which temporary drain connections can be made from equipment where permanent connections would not be justified because of infrequent usage or small inventory. Capacitors as bulk units can be connected to the supply busbar via a fuse switch, molded-case circuit breaker of air circuit breaker. In this type of installation control is purely manual, and in cases of a reasonably constant load and where the amount of power factor correction is limited such a manually controlled system is perfectly adequate. The supply authority may, however, require to be informed that a capacitor bank is permanently connected to the supply. Intermolecular interactions only operate over relatively short distances, so we assume that, under normal conditions, each molecule in a gas is wholly unaffected by all the others. If your computer at work is on a local area network (LAN), you may already have access to an external connection. Almost all universities have permanent connections between their internal systems and the Internet. If you don t have access to an institutional connection, you have to obtain an access from an Internet service provider (ISP). For a full Internet connection, you must have software to make your computer use the Internet protocol, TCP/IP, and if your connection is through a modem this software will probably use PPP (point to point protocol). 

For small U and C values, the discharge resistor may be permanently connected to the capacitor. In the example given above, the resulting power loss would be 10 kW. Consequently, a discharge switch shall be fitted which automatically closes the discharge circuit. For pressurized apparatus, a single-pole vacuum tube (contactor type) may be used. As we have seen, the mechanical philosophy featured by Boyle and Hoffmann was fundamentally Cartesian.
