End Covers. GeneraUy it is desirable to have as few openings as possible in the waUs of a vessel, and to this end it is customary to accommodate anciUary equipment, such as stirrer glands, pipe connections, and smaU fittings for measuring instmments, in the more lightly stressed end cover. 

Magnetic filters have been used to clean paint sHps and Hquids. Filters that are open to the atmosphere or closed, ie, pressure type, are available where the filter inlets are matched to standard pipe connections from 10 to 50 mm, for low capacity appHcations. 

Valve bodies are also standardized to mate with common piping connections flanged, butt-weld end, socket-weld end, and screwed end. The piping around any facility, other than the straight pipe connecting the equipment, is made up primarily of a series of control stations. Flow from one vessel goes through a control station and into a piece of pipe that goe.s to another vessel. End-of-Line Flame Arrester A deflagration flame arrester that is installed on atmospheric pressnre tank vent nozzles, having only one pipe connection. It is also called a tank vent deflagration flame arrester. 

In-Line Flame Arrester A flame arrester which is fitted with two pipe connections, one on each side of the flame arrester element. An in-line flame arrester may be either a deflagradon or a detonation flame arrester.
