Standardization working standards

Reference Standard A reference standard is broadly defined as certified material or substance, supplied by a certifying body, which exhibits one or more properties that are sufficiently well established (and assigned) that it may be used for calibration of an apparatus, assessment of a measurement method, and assigning values to materials. Reference standards in pharmaceutical sciences generally fall within three categories analytical reference standards, working standards, and authentic materials. [Pg.120]

Secondary standard (working standard). A material of high purity that has been characterized against a primary or compendial standard. A secondary standard is often used to conserve the amount of primary standard. [Pg.438]

Master standards calibrated by reference to primary standards and usnally in the form of porcelain or opaque glass panels, ceramic tiles, acrylic painted chips, etc. These are maintained with extreme care, nsually at the standards institutes, and are used only to calibrate other secondary standards. Working standards used as a reference for a group of laboratory iirstrumetrt standards. These are usually ceramic or porcelain tiles. [Pg.89]

In spite of their authority and international prestige, these institutes are not the official standards organizations, and participation in their work is restricted to those who have paid the membership fees. [Pg.295]

The national organizations are often relayed into each profession by a body created and financed by this profession and which undertakes all or part of the work in preparing the standards. In the petroleum industry, this role is carried out in France by the BNPet (Bureau de Normalisation du Petrole) and in Germany by the FAM (Fachausschuss Mineralol-und Brennstoffnormung), in the United Kingdom by the IP (Institute of Petroleum), and in the USA by the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials). In the first two cases, the standards are published only by the national organizations (AFNOR and DIN respectively), while the IP and the ASTM also publish their own documents, only some of which are adopted by the BSI and ANSI, respectively. [Pg.296]

All these organizations have developed numerous working procedures, with very little difference between each other. These procedures seem at first heavy and cumbersome, but following them allows a consensus to be reached. Thus, for example, free access for all to the standardization commissions work is guaranteed, and the existence of lobbies is avoided. [Pg.296]

The publication of interstate Standard GOST 30415-96" Steel. Non-destructive inspection of mechanical properties and microstructure of metal products by magnetic method" - is the long-expected event for works laboratories and development engineers of non-destructive test means. [Pg.25]

The Supplement B (reference) contains a description of the process to render an automatic construction of mathematical models with the application of electronic computer. The research work of the Institute of the applied mathematics of The Academy of Sciences ( Ukraine) was assumed as a basis for the Supplement. The prepared mathematical model provides the possibility to spare strength and to save money, usually spent for the development of the mathematical models of each separate enterprise. The model provides the possibility to execute the works standard forms and records for the non-destructive inspection in complete correspondence with the requirements of the Standard. [Pg.26]

UTDefect is basically working in the frequency domain so pulse problems are solved by superposing a number of frequencies. In principal any frequency spectrum can be used (an experimental one, for instance). As the standard spectrum the following simple one is used... [Pg.157]

CPU. A standard Motorola CPU was selected, which works under a powerful real-time, multi-task operating system (VxWorks), and has embedded Ethernet interface. This CPU also features 4 IP slots to which can be plugged ... [Pg.277]

For some years now, standards for radioscopic applications have been in the drafting stage. This paper will discuss the present state of the preparations that the ad hoc working group "Radioscopy" of IIW, CEN and ISO is involved in. [Pg.435]

In standardized testing (EN444, EN1435) with x-ray films one must work above 100 keV with front and back screens (generally of lead) for amplification and filtering. Lead screens filter... [Pg.469]

A modular scanner system for NDE has been developed. It consists of a selection of individual electronics and motor module components, supported by scanner configuration and control software. The modules are used as standard building blocks for construction of job specific, dedicated scanners as well and general purpose scanners. The use of modular scanner components significantly reduce the work, time and cost not only for the design and manufacture but also for establishing documentation and ensure compliance with the relevant EU-directive requirements. [Pg.805]

This standard proposal is limited to a format model. So, as it had been pointed out earlier, the implementation of this format requires some complementary work, which can partly be standardized. The definition of the Application Programming Interfaces (A.P.l.) could become a standard in the future. Nonetheless, this would require the creation of a new ad hoc group, with different technical competences. [Pg.927]

Quality in NDT depends upon a number of factors. Qualification of NDT personnel, technical state and correctness of choice of testing equipment, availability of approved working procedures of examination, calibration of NDT equipment have decisive importance among those factors of an NDT laboratory. Assessment of NDT laboratory competence is provided through accreditation in compliance with the EN 45000 series standards. [Pg.953]

For such an estimation it is not sufficient to define compliance to the requirements of ISO standards 9000 series. It is necessary to take into account other requirements arising in the process of work with the particular test objects and the customer. [Pg.954]

The work on standardisation in Ukraine is led by the State Committee of Ukraine on Standardisation, Metrology and Certification (Gosstandardt), All the USSR standards (GOSTs) are valid in Ukraine, and several dozens of them were elaborated in the NDT field. [Pg.969]

For continuation of the work on standardisation in the field of NDT TD, Gosstandardt set up a Technical Committee on Standardisation Technical Diagnostics and Non-Destructive Testing (TC-78) This is a social organisation which unites the leading experts on TD NDT, and determines the priority areas of work, and qualified performers in the field of TD NDT Its main aim is unification of the standards of Ukraine with the European norms. [Pg.969]

There remains a great deal of work to be done before NDE in Civil Engineering ean reaeh the technological standards and level of sophistication which is found in established and traditional NDE-branches. There are NDE- methods presently available, however, which are reliable and which can be put to practical use on site, but their potential is not being fully exploited. [Pg.996]

The characteristic isotherm concept was elaborated by de Boer and coworkers [90]. By accepting a reference from a BET fit to a standard system and assuming a density for the adsorbed film, one may convert n/rim to film thickness t. The characteristic isotherm for a given adsorbate may then be plotted as t versus P/P. For any new system, one reads t from the standard r-curve and n from the new isotherm, for various P/P values. De Boer and co-work-ers t values are given in Table XVII-4. A plot of t versus n should be linear if the experimental isotherm has the same shape as the reference characteristic isotherm, and the slope gives E ... [Pg.633]

Binsch [6] provided the standard way of calculating these lineshapes in the frequency domain, and implemented it in the program DNMR3 [7], Fonnally, it is the same as the matrix description given in section (B2.4.2.3). The calculation of the matrices L, R and K is more complex for a coupled spin system, but that should not interfere witii the understanding of how the method works. This work will be discussed later, but first the time-domain approach will be developed. [Pg.2099]

A potentiostat is used to control the potential between the working electrode and a standard reference electrode. The current is measured and adjusted between an inert counter-electrode (typically Pt) and the working electrode. Figure C2.8.3. The problems that occur when one tries to estimate affinity in terms of component terms do not arise when perturbation methods are used with simulations in order to compute potentials of mean force or free energies for molecular transformations simulations use a simple physical force field and thereby implicitly include all component terms discussed earlier. We have used the molecular transformation approach to compute binding affinities from these first principles [14]. The basic approach had been introduced in early work, in which we studied the affinity of xenon for myoglobin [11]. The procedure was to gradually decrease the interactions between xenon atom and protein, and compute the free energy change by standard perturbation methods, cf. (10). An (issential component is to impose a restraint on the... [Pg.137]

The solution Xh(t) of the linearized equations of motion can be solved by standard NM techniques or, alternatively, by explicit integration. We have experimented with both and found the second approach to be far more efficient and to work equally well. Its handling of the random force discretization is also more straightforward (see below). For completeness, we describe both approaches here. [Pg.247]

This latter modified midpoint method does work well, however, for the long time integration of Hamiltonian systems which are not highly oscillatory. Note that conservation of any other first integral can be enforced in a similar manner. To our knowledge, this method has not been considered in the literature before in the context of Hamiltonian systems, although it is standard among methods for incompressible Navier-Stokes (where its time-reversibility is not an issue, however). [Pg.285]
