A modular scanner system for NDE has been developed. It consists of a selection of individual electronics and motor module components, supported by scanner configuration and control software. The modules are used as standard building blocks for construction of job specific, dedicated scanners as well and general purpose scanners. The use of modular scanner components significantly reduce the work, time and cost not only for the design and manufacture but also for establishing documentation and ensure compliance with the relevant EU-directive requirements. [Pg.805]

In recent decades, much attention has been paid to the application of artificial neural networks as a tool for spectral interpretation (see, e.g.. Refs. [104, 105]). The ANN approach app]ied to vibrational spectra allows the determination of adequate functional groups that can exist in the sample, as well as the complete interpretation of spectra. Elyashberg [106] reported an overall prediction accuracy using ANN of about 80 % that was achieved for general-purpose approaches. Klawun and Wilkins managed to increase this value to about 95% [107]. [Pg.536]

MMl, MM2, MM3, and MM4 are general-purpose organic force fields. There have been many variants of the original methods, particularly MM2. MMl is seldom used since the newer versions show measurable improvements. The MM3 method is probably one of the most accurate ways of modeling hydrocarbons. At the time of this book s publication, the MM4 method was still too new to allow any broad generalization about the results. However, the initial published results are encouraging. These are some of the most widely used force fields due to the accuracy of representation of organic molecules. MMX and MM+ are variations on MM2. These force fields use five to six valence terms, one of which is an electrostatic term and one to nine cross terms. [Pg.55]

The Merck molecular force field (MMFF) is one of the more recently published force fields in the literature. It is a general-purpose method, particularly popular for organic molecules. MMFF94 was originally intended for molecular dynamics simulations, but has also seen much use for geometry optimization. It uses five valence terms, one of which is an electrostatic term, and one cross tenn. [Pg.55]

The rings in sugars pose a particular problem to general-purpose force fields and should be modeled using a force field designed specifically for carbohydrates. [Pg.57]

Polycarbonate is a polyester in which dihydric (or polyhydric) phenols are joined through carbonate linkages. The general-purpose type of polycarbonate is based on 2,2-bis(4 -hydroxybenzene)propane (bisphenol A) and has the general structure ... [Pg.1019]

Precision The precision of a potentiometric measurement is limited by variations in temperature and the sensitivity of the potentiometer. Under most conditions, and with simple, general-purpose potentiometers, the potential can be measured with a repeatability of +0.1 mV. From Table 11.7 this result corresponds to an uncertainty of +0.4% for monovalent analytes, and +0.8% for divalent analytes. The reproducibility of potentiometric measurements is about a factor of 10 poorer. [Pg.495]

Laboratory tests indicated that gamma radiation treatment and cross-linking using triaHylcyanurate or acetylene produced a flexible recycled plastic from mixtures of polyethylene, polypropylene, general-purpose polystyrene, and high impact grade PS (62). [Pg.232]

Typical values of important properties of general purpose acetal resins (homopolymer and copolymer) are collected in Table 2. Properties in the table were deterrnined on specimens subjected only to the conditioning required by the ASTM procedure. In this case, values measured for homopolymer are characteristically higher than those for copolymer. [Pg.56]

Development of toughened acetals has recendy dourished. One such grade, Delrin lOOST, boasts a notched-impact strength of 900 J/m (16.86 ft-lb/in.) at 23°C, substantially higher than that of nonmodified, general purpose grades (Table 2). [Pg.59]

Cellulosics. CeUulosic adhesives are obtained by modification of cellulose [9004-34-6] (qv) which comes from cotton linters and wood pulp. Cellulose can be nitrated to provide cellulose nitrate [9004-70-0] which is soluble in organic solvents. When cellulose nitrate is dissolved in amyl acetate [628-63-7] for example, a general purpose solvent-based adhesive which is both waterproof and flexible is formed. Cellulose esterification leads to materials such as cellulose acetate [9004-35-7], which has been used as a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape backing. Cellulose can also be ethoxylated, providing hydroxyethylceUulose which is useful as a thickening agent for poly(vinyl acetate) emulsion adhesives. Etherification leads to materials such as methylceUulose [9004-67-5] which are soluble in water and can be modified with glyceral [56-81-5] to produce adhesives used as wallpaper paste (see Cellulose esters Cellulose ethers). [Pg.234]

PVA used for the manufacture of fiber generally has a degree of polymerization of about 1700 and, for general-purpose fiber, a high degree of hydrolysis of vinyl acetate units of at least 99 mol %. [Pg.337]

TrioctylPhosphate. Trioctyl phosphate [1806-54-8/, C24H 04P, has been employed as a specialty flame-retardant plasticizer for vinyl compositions where low temperature flexibHity is critical, eg, in military tarpaulins. It can be included in blends along with general-purpose plasticizers (qv) such as phthalate esters to improve low temperature flexibHity. [Pg.476]
