Formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials, ASTM was formed over a centimy ago. It is one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations in the world, known for technical standards for materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM standards cover a diverse range of industries, and are developed by over 30,000 ASTM members who are technical experts in their fields. Standards, technical publications, journals, and other publications are available at the site. [Pg.257]

In Europe, a sponsor may request an accelerated review of a marketing authorisation by the EMEA on grounds that the product is of major interest to public health, particularly from the viewpoint of therapeutic innovation. If granted, an accelerated review must be conducted within 150 days as opposed to the 210 days allowed for a standard technical assessment. [Pg.151]

The IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization is a separate corporation closely affiliated with the IEEE. IEEE standards and publications are in technical areas ranging from biomedical technology and computer engineering to electric power, aerospace, and consumer electronics. They have almost 900 active standards with 700 under development. IEEE standards can be searched and purchased on their Web site. The site also links to portals for IEEE standards activities in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. [Pg.258]

Though an absolute reference value is not available for comparison in any of the international standard specifications, the technical publications about the chemical resistance properties of rubber by liquid immersion tests certainly provide relative and useful data with which the suitability of anticorrosive rubber lining compound can be assessed with a fair degree of accuracy. For this reason manufacturers and applicators of rubber lining resort to tests under simulated conditions instead of accelerated ageing, immersion or swelling tests. [Pg.126]

The above data were collected from various sources, in particular D. D. Wagman et al., Selected Values of Chemical Thermodynamic Properties, National Bureau of Standards Technical Note 270-3 (1968), and R. C. Wilhoit, Selected Values of Thermodynamic Properties, being the Appendix (pp. 305-317) of H. D. Brown, ed,. Biochemical Mia o-cahrimetty. New York Academic Press, 1969. These publications contain many additional values. Wilhoit s compilation also includes some values for systems buffered at pH 7. [Pg.164]

The IAEA safety standards need to be complemented by industry standards and must be implemented within appropriate national regulatory infrastructures to be fully effective. The IAEA produces a wide range of technical publications to help States in developing these national standards and infrastructures. [Pg.12]

The electromagnetic resonance phenomenon, will be described in section 3, it is directly associated with the method of grounding the electrical system of the jjetrochemical plants. Protection schemes and practical grounding of industrial power systems of medium voltage, such as industrial petrochemical plants, are based on IEEE standards, the National Electrical Code (NEC), lEC standards and technical publications [IEEE Standard 141-1993 IEEE Standard 142-1982 IEEE Standard 242-1986 IEEE Standard 241-1983 ANSI C62.92-1987 National Electrical Code National lEC 61936-1 2002 lEC 60364-1 2001 Dunki-Jacobs, 1977]. [Pg.182]

The following sections summarize the inspection procedures provided in CGA C-6, Standards for Visual Inspection of Steel Compressed Gas Cylinders [10]. Except where noted, the focus pertains to low pressure and high pressure steel cylinders. While many of the same considerations apply to the inspection of aluminum cylinders and cylinders made of materials other than steel, the respective CGA technical publications should be consulted for specific procedures and defect limitations concerning such cylinders. See CGA C-6.1, C-6.2, andC-6.3 [11, 12, 13]. [Pg.176]

As already mentioned, much of the use for plastics just after World War II was as a cheap substitute for traditional materials, and in other cases the material was used for its novelty value. In many instances the result was detrimental to the industry and it required several years of painstaking work by the technical service departments of the major plastics materials manufacturers before confidence was regained in the use of plastics. Even today the public image of plastics is not entirely positive and the significant contribution of plastics to raising the standard of living and quality of life is not fully recognised. [Pg.11]
