Specific areas of concern

Some activities will result in exposures of the workers to radiation. Therefore, special attention should be taken in developing radiation protection procedures for these activities  

Ambient radiation fields should be monitored at a frequency sufficient to alert the operator to any loss of shielding as a result of structural deterioration.

Because of the complexity of computer hardware and software and because of the intricacy of a risk assessment, the FDA has to all intents and purposes adopted an indirect regulatory posture. Regulated companies are informally urged to conduct independent audits of Part 11 compliance, utilizing in-house or consultant expertise. The agency can then review the details of the audit report and the credentials for experience, expertise, and independence of the auditor. Follow-up investigation of speciflc points can then be laser-focused on specific areas of concern. 

EPA. Each environmental statute has its own particular focus, whether it is controlling the levels of pollutants introduced into a single environmental medium (i.e., air, soil, or water) or addressing a specific area of concern, such as pesticides or waste cleanup. 

Essentially all of the engineering thermodynamic correlations used in pollution control models and synthesis gas phase equilibria, chemical equilibria, and enthalpy calculation schemes have their foundations in fundamental theory. Experimental data, in addition to being directly useful to designers, allows the correlation developer to assess the validity and suitability of his model. Included within the third section (Properties of Aqueous Solutions—Theory, Experiment, and Prediction) are chapters providing both comprehensive reviews and detailed descriptions of specific areas of concern in the theory and properties of aqueous solutions. 

Let me now turn to some of the specific areas of concern identified in the various reviews referred to and try to indicate exactly how we are addressing these issues.

Whilst the analysis of NDA R D needs, risks and opportunities has highlighted work to be carried out, no assessment has been made of the ability of the supply chain to meet these requirements in terms of facilities. One specific area of concern is the changing need in terms of measurement capability and the availability of laboratory facilities and laboratory standards. 

Follow up investigation of specific points can then be laser-focused on specific areas of concern. 

Once these factors have been ruled out one is left with the scenario where the clinical risk associated with the HIT product is genuinely unacceptable and an appropriate action plan needs to be drawn up. The first decision may be to determine whether or not the safety case should be issued at all - indeed, is the safety case a case at aU where it concludes that the risk is unacceptable In general a report of this nature can be particularly enlightening. An opportunity to formally set out the specific areas of concern provides focus and mutual understanding of the problem. A report recommending further work should therefore not be buried but instead form a sound basis for option development. 

One specific area of concern for many safety professionals has been, Do HIPAA and patient confidentiality rights extend to DOT required drug and alcohol testing The answer that the DOT and FMCSA regulations do not require the driver s signature on anything except the CCF and ATF did not ease many safety professional s worries. 

Secondary Statutes have also been introduced. Typically these have been enabled in order to close loopholes or address specific areas of concern such as noise, consumer product safety, coastal management and occupational safety and health. 

Assessment An evaluation or examination of a specific area of concern, such as a program, policy, or procedural assessment. 

With these developments in mind, the IAEA recommended preparation of a new status report on innovative SMRs, with a focus on their potential to provide solutions in the specific areas of concern associated with future nuclear energy systems. To support the preparation of this report, an IAEA technical meeting on Innovative Small and Medium Sized Reactors Design Features, Safety Approaches and R D Trends was held on 7-11 June 2004 in Vienna, and its final report was published as IAEA-TECDOC-1451 in May 2005 [7]. This TECDOC presents a variety of innovative water cooled, gas cooled, liquid metal cooled and non-conventional SMR designs developed worldwide and examines the technology and infrastructure development needs that may be common to several concepts or lines of such reactors. Both, the technical meeting and the IAEA-TECDOC-1451 provided recommendations on the objectives, structure, scope and content of this report. 

The annexes, intended mostly for designers and technical managers, provide detailed design descriptions of innovative SMRs under development worldwide and are patterned along a newly developed common format, which makes it possible to identify the design philosophy, objectives and approaches, as well as technical features and non-technical factors and arrangements with a potential to provide solutions in the specific areas of concern associated with future nuclear energy systems. 

Certification is the confirmation that some fact or statement is true through the use of documentary evidence. Certification follows testing to verify that the certified person, product, or activity is in accordance with specifications and has demonstrated compliance with documented requirements. It is a statement of adequacy provided by a responsible agency for a specific area of concern in support of the validation process. 

Figure 2 compares the UV-visible spectra of AW-Ph-HMM and CW-Ph-HMM (curves a and b, respectively), after contact with iodine vapours and outgassing at room temperature. As it concerns the material with crystal-like walls, no peaks related to I2 molecules are observed. Since surface specific areas of the two materials are comparable, this finding suggests a lower availability of phenyl rings for the crystal-like walls material, where, following the model reported in [7], the aromatic moieties lie perpendicularly with respect to the pore surface. 

The questions may be divided into specific areas of investigation usually related to consequences of interest, such as electrical safety, fire protection, or personnel safety. Each area is subsequently addressed by a team of one or more knowledgeable individuals. The team answers each question and addresses each concern (or indicates a need for more information) and identifies the hazard, potential consequences, engineered safety levels, and possible solutions. During the process, any new what-if questions that become apparent are added. Sometimes the proposed answers are developed by individuals outside the initial meeting, and then presented to the team for endorsement or modification. 

Safety should be of major concern in performing any chemistry experiment, but when radioisotopes are involved, special precautions must be taken. Many chemistry and biochemistry departments have specially equipped laboratories for radioisotope work. Alternatively, your instructor should set aside a specific area of your laboratory for using radioactive materials. In either situation, specific guidelines should be followed. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY. That aspect of chemistry concerned with air and water pollution, pesticides, and chemical and radioactive waste disposal. A random selection of specific areas of research includes. (l)Lead and other toxic chemicals in the air. 

There are several coastal areas within the Great Lakes that fall under regulatory scrutiny by both the Canadian and US governments because of PAH contamination. These sites have been given the designation of areas of concern (AOCs). Of the 46 AOCs around the Great Lakes, 15 specifically list PAH contamination as a reason of concern (often in addition to other contaminants). A list of the AOCs contaminated with PAHs is summarized in Table 1 below. 

We are using the term inadequate sleep instead of sleep deprivation in our title for a number of reasons. First, few studies have aimed specifically to deprive children or adolescents of sleep. We describe some research on experimental sleep restriction in children but most of these studies fall far short of common deprivation paradigms in animals or even adult humans. Instead, most research in younger humans has assessed outcome measures such as school grades, self-reported sleepiness, and so forth as a function of variations in self-selected or usual sleep patterns with the expectation that children and adolescents who obtain lower than normal amounts of sleep will manifest deficits. Thus, inadequate sleep is defined by sleep characteristics of a sample. We also wanted to note some of the literature on sleep that is disturbed or disrupted due to disease processes such as apnea or periodic leg movements the duration of sleep in sleep disorders may or may not be shortened or restricted although it is likely fragmented and otherwise abnormal. We decided on the term inadequate sleep with the hope that it would encompass these different areas of concern. 

The focus of the validation program is usually the quality attributes of the system implementation, change control, and the verification and testing of modifications made to the baseline system. The configuration management of the system, including its documentation, is a key area of concern. Specifically, documentation management is extremely critical for the information contained in both the master production records, and in the application.
