Control air pollution

In 1955, the original Clean Air Act was passed to fight air pollution. Over the years, a number of modifications have been made to that act  

1960 amendment—directed Surgeon General to study vehicle pollution 

1963 amendment—directed research into fuel desulfurization and development of air 

1965 amendment—mandate to study new sources of pollution 1967—Quality Air Act 1970—Clean Air Amendment 

1977 amendment—the Clean Air Act for emission standards 1990—reauthorization of federal Clean Air Act 

The acidic particles can be trapped by rainwater droplets and cause acidic rains—which is a major environmental hazard. 

The gaseous effluents are to be treated in-house only and cannot be sent to the common treatment facilities. Various types of equipment and systems are available 

Ammonia is used to precipitate the final uranium concentrate salt (yellowcake) prior to drying or calcination. It is generally economically preferred over sodium hydroxide or hydrogen peroxide57.
