Special Features

It could be argued that many special features have been covered already and indeed at least some have been mentioned. It is considered that the variants already discussed are alternatives to do the same job as the basic component, but in a different way. The special features, now to be described, are designs that enable a unique task, or designs used by only a minority of manufacturers, or that are used for specific applications, or have enhanced efficiency in some respect. [Pg.86]

For thin specimens, as used in a TEM, the spatial resolution is of less concern. The lateral size of the emission volume is not significantly larger than the probe size because the thinness of the specimen limits the spread of the emission volume. For example, with a TEM acceleration voltage of 100 kV and probe diameter of 20 nm, the lateral size will be about 23 nm for aluminum. Two different types of calibration marks are used in our experiments, planar circles and circular balls. The accuracy of the calibration procedure depends on the accuracy of the feature detection algorithms used to detect the calibration marks in the images. To take this in account, a special feature detection procedure based on accurate ellipses fitting has been developed. Whether a vessel is called an evaporator or a crystallizer depends primarily on the criteria used in arriving at its sizing. In an evaporator of the salting-out type, sizing is done on the basis of vapor release.
