External appearance

Whether a vessel is called an evaporator or a crystallizer depends primarily on the criteria used in arriving at its sizing. In an evaporator of the salting-out type, sizing is done on the basis of vapor release. In a ciystaUizer, sizing is normally done on the basis of the volume required for crystallization or for special features required to obtain the proper produc t size. In external appearance, the vessels could be identical. Evaporators are discussed in Sec. 11.

Everyday experience shows us that all human beings are unique in their external appearance and can be safely distinguished if only sufficient independent physical traits are compared. From so-called identical twins we learn that a considerable part of this phenotype is inherited. 

Bartlett et alP exposed 194 young rats (3-4 weeks old) continuously to ozone at 0.2 ppm for 28-32 days and observed that there was no effect on respiratory frequency, weight gain, tail-length increase, and external appearance in the ozone-exposed group and that, although both ozone-exposed and control groups looked healthy, 12 ozone-exposed and 11 control animals had pneumonitis at the end of the exposure period. The results with the latter animals were discarded in the later data analysis.

Active flow-through (bio)chemical sensors include a microzone where a (bio)chemical reaction, a separation or both takes place. The active microzone may be located in the flow-cell itself (Figs 2.6.B and 2.6.C) or built into a probe sensor for insertion into a continuous-flow analytical system (Fig. 2.6.A). The external appearance of a sensitive microzone can be as widely different as the type of detector and process concerned. This is discussed in greater detail in the following section.

Accdg to Ref 1, p 121 and Ref 2 p 191, Japanese Navy Fuzes utilized a characteristic Gaine which incorporated within itself the entire expl train. The Gaines were similar in external appearance but varied in size and internal construction. They were generally made of brass, cadmium plated and lacquered. More recently some Gaines were made of steel...

The loaves prepared on either the large or the small scale are examined as to their external appearance, and in section to ascertain their porosity, the thickness of the crust, the adherence of the latter to the crumb, etc., and also as to their objective characters. Further, since the value of a flour for bread-making increases with the volume of the loaf, the latter is often determined. To this end loaves are prepared as above from 100-200... 

If of good quality, the material has a pleasant smell and taste (not mouldy or rancid), a yellowish colour, a uniform external appearance and a vitreous fracture. It should also resist fracture and pressure by the fingers and should be in a state of perfect preservation. 

Besides these genuine, natural turpentines, artificial products (Turpentine substitutes, Artificial turpentines) are also sold, these having as their basis, colophony, resin oils, fatty oils, oil of turpentine, pine oil, or resin spirit. Such products have the external appearance of ordinary or larch turpentine, but their odour never possesses the peculiar balsam-like quality characteristic of the latter.

External appearance, which provides the visual perception of quality in particular, colour, uniformity of size, shape, consistency and texture. 

Earlier, Mann discusses the symmetry of the human body in more detail, stressing the harmony between its external appearance and internal organization [3] ... 

Many intangible factors enter into the final decision on a proposed investment. Sometimes it may be desirable to impress the general public by the external appearance of a property or by some unnecessary treatment of the final product. These advertising benefits would probably receive no consideration in a theoretical economic analysis, but they certainly would influence management s final decision in choosing the best investment.
