Useful criteria

An experienced inspection engineer will attempt to identify the characteristics of a given structure to determine potential. specific critical damage mechanisms. No individual major concrete structure can be adequately analysed by simple mass-accumulation of data and using criteria, which are based on standard codes. This does not mean that either data-collection or available criteria are not useful, but they should be exercised with care and flexibility and the procedures for inspection customised for the given structure. 

No particular contact lens type or product is considered universally superior. In some regions of the world hard lenses dominate the market, eg, some European countries and Japan in other regions, eg. North America and Scandinavia, soft lenses dominate. Contact lens practitioners select their preferred type of lens using criteria other than just lens material properties. However, among soft lenses, HEMA-based lenses are prescribed most often, and among hard lenses, siUcone—acrylate RGP lenses are most common. 

Because of these limitations, different models may appear to describe the unit operation equally well. Analysts must discriminate among various models with the associated parameter estimates that best meet the end-use criteria for the model development. There are three principal criteria forjudging the suitability of one model over another. In addition, there are ancillary criteria like computing time and ease of use that may also contribute to the decision but are not of general concern. 

Plastic venturis should be avoided wherever there is the potential for isolation of the bag cage or other conductive component. Plastic venturi hazards are noted in [33] a recent dust explosion originating in a bag house might have been due to their use. Criteria for selection of antistatic and conductive filter cloths are given in 6-5.2.1. 

Among the commonly used criteria is the air distribution performance index (ADPI), defined as the percentage of ItKadons where a combination of air temperature and air velocity meets comfort requirements. This criterion is based on experimental results of air diffuser performance for specifically tested room configurations. Data on the ADPI are available only for sedentary activity. 

Exact performance can be given only by the manufacturer for a specified turbine selected to operate at a particular set of conditions. However, estimates can be made which are usually quite satisfactory for general evaluations and comparisons. The most useful criteria are the steam rate and the system cost. Steam rate is the flow of steam in pounds per brake horsepower output per hour through the turbine. It is established for a definite shaft horsepower output, given steam pressure and temperature, exhaust system pressure, and shaft rpm ...

Insulin resistance has been associated with a number of other cardiovascular risks, including abdominal obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, hypercoagulation, and hyperinsulinemia. The clustering of these risk factors has been termed metabolic syndrome. It is estimated that 50% of the United States population older than 60 years of age have metabolic syndrome. The most widely used criteria to define metabolic syndrome were established by the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III Guidelines (summarized in Table 40-2). 

The Federal Water Pollution Control Act (Clean Water Act) establishes nationally applicable effluent limitations using criteria based on different levels of control technology. For example, risk assessments were carried out in response to the settlement of litigation asserting a failure to set standards... 

The risk methodology recommended for the water quality criteria involves either qualitative or quantitative estimates of concentrations of a pollutant in ambient waters which, when not exceeded, will "ensure a water quality sufficient to protect a specified water use." Criteria are intended for both the protection of human health and of ecosystems however, they do not carry the authority of law. 

Commonly used criteria includes SG-22, and CIA 1992. Both documents specify at least two blast overpressures for buildings spaced 100 feet (30 meters) from a vapor cloud explosion hazard as follows ... 

TNG Green Book and ASCE Manual 42 use criteria that appears to be based on longer duration blast loads. The positive phase has rise time of 4S/U and a total duration of td (Figure 3.10a). Equipment was developed to measure the maximum pressure and rate of pressure increase during exothermic decomposition, and the results serve as useful criteria to assess hazards. A ruggedness test is a part of method validation (Table 3.1) and can be considered as a part of the precision evaluation [2,4,5]. Ruggedness is related to repeatability and reproducibility. Some definitions for ruggedness come very close to those for reproducibility. Certain interpretation methods to identify the significant factors in a ruggedness test use criteria based on results for repeatability or reproducibility. These two items will be considered in Section 3.4.7. 

The useful criteria introduced earlier for radiation protection purposes are that the estimate of He should (1) not be much less than the actusd He U-C., Htiest mate)/HE between 0.9 and 1.0] to avoid underestimating He by much, and (2) not be much higher than the actual He [i.e., He (estimate)///e not much greater than 2.0 to 3.0] to avoid seriously overestimating He- How the various results in Table 3.1 compare to these criteria for each irradiation geometry and algorithm is summarized in Table 3.2. 

To look in detail on the presented cases the typology uses criteria which form a neutral picture of the character of the developed service system. They allow easy comparison between the cases and other existing business models, pointing out differences and looking for further potential improvements in order to develop target-models.
