Housing systems

Fabric-filter systems, commonly called bag-filter or bag-house systems, are dust-collection systems in which dustladen air is passed through a bag-type filter. The bag collects the dust in layers on its surface and the dust layer itself effectively becomes the filter medium. Because the bag s pores are usually much larger than those of the dust-particle layer that forms, the initial efficiency is very low. However, it improves once an adequate dust-layer forms. Therefore, the potential for dust penetration of the filter media is extremely low except during the initial period after startup, bag change, or during the fabric-cleaning, or blow-down, cycle. 

A fundamental problem that occurs even in fully industrialized countries and large international companies, is that whereas many smaller boiler plant managers purchase well-designed and efficient boilers, pumps, and auxiliaries from recognized quality manufacturers and distributors, the design and construction of FW tanks and even the overall boiler house system may be placed in the hands of persons with inadequate training and experience. 

In-house Data Systems can provide an answer where no commercial alternatives are available or satisfactory. They offer complete control over what the software does and how works. In-house systCims also provide a familiar software environment when adapted for a number of applications. Perhaps surprisingly, the cost effectiveness of in-house systems can be superior to commercial systems when spread over a number of applications and installations. 

The validation umbrella not only covers in-house systems, but also covers vendor systems. Much of industry today is dependent to some extent on vendor-supplied electronic systems and, consequently, the vendor s validation of those systems. Because of this, there are validation issues to assess at the vendor including how the vendor addresses change control, testing and documentation, source code, integration, and implementation of the system during development. Implementation support also must be assessed. 

Housing this must allow sows to express their full range of normal behaviour patterns, and must not involve permanent confinement or any housing system which prevents the sows getting up, lying down and turning round without difficulty.

Tensile testing is an important part of the physical characterization of free film coatings. The fundamental properties measured relate directly to performance properties of the coating. Because of the time required to obtain and analyze tensile data, a laboratory which routinely performs tensile tests may find that an automated system is needed. Although commercial packages are available, it is feasible to develop an in-house system with relatively little expense. This paper describes one such system as implemented at Glidden Coatings and Resins with very satisfactory results.

I gave some examples of a positive effect of odour control on ammonia losses. There are more activities that can have an influence like housing system, manure treatment or grazing system. 

It can be concluded that separation and removal of urine and faeces from piggery result in a reduced formation of odour components (5). This might result in a decrease of the precieved odour as compared with a housing system with underslat slurry storage. 

The highest NH3-losses occur in straw-based housing systems when the manure is moved to storage (Hartung 1991). Aerobic decomposition (e.g. composting) is connected with higher losses (9-44% of Nt) than anaerobic (< 1% of Nt). NH3...

A complete new system would have the benefit of system-control and data processing via a personal computer and proprietary software. An in-house system, however, would probably output readings to a chart-recorder. This can give a further opportunity of adjusting the scale-expansion to accommodate...
