Shrimps

Cut the blanched bacon strips in half. Place one jalapeno half against 1 shrimp, wrap with a bacon piece and secure with a toothpick. Place all of the shrimp brochettes into a bowl and marinated at least 30 minutes covered with teriyaki sauce. Broil 5 minutes and serve. Yum ... [Pg.161]

The following is the tastiest shrimp dish ever It is complex. But the reward is heaven. [Pg.162]

Alternate beef and shrimp on skewers. Mix the peanut oil, soy sauce and lime juice in a bowl to use a basting sauce. On a nice, hot coai or wood grill, cook the k-bobs until medium rare (or to taste) brushing them often with the basting liquid. Put aside and keep warm. [Pg.162]

Land costs vary enormously both between and within countries. Compare the cost of coastal land in south Florida where it might be possible to consider rearing shrimp with that of Mississippi farmland suitable for catfish farming. The former might be thousands of dollars for every meter of ocean front, while the latter may be obtained for one or two thousand dollars per hectare. [Pg.12]

Among the invertebrates, most of the world s production is associated with mussels, oysters, shrimp, scallops, and clams. Crawfish culture is of considerable importance in the United States, but amounted to only 24,211 metric tons in 1992 (4) insignificant compared to some other invertebrate species. [Pg.15]

In cases where zooplankton are reared as a food for predatory larvae or fry, it may be necessary to maintain three cultures. Though wild zooplankton have been used successfully in some instances (eg, in Norway wild zooplankton have been collected and fed to larval Pacific haUbut), the normal process involves culturing algae to feed to zooplankton that are fed to a young shrimp or fish. [Pg.20]

Unlike catfish, tilapia, trout and salmon, that produce several hundred to several thousand eggs per female, many marine species produce large numbers of very small eggs. Hundreds of thousands to millions of eggs are produced by such species as haUbut, flounders, red dmm, striped bass, and shrimp. Catfish, salmon, and trout spawn once a year, while tilapia and some marine species spawn repeatedly if the proper environmental conditions are maintained (1). Red dmm, for example, spawn every few days for periods of several months when light and temperature and properly controlled (10). [Pg.22]

Sulfur Dioxide and Sulfites. Sulfur dioxide [7446-09-5], SO2, sodium bisulfite [15181-46-1], NaHSO, and sodium metabisulfite [23134-05-6] ate effective against molds, bacteria, and certain strains of yeast. The wine industry represents the largest user of sulfites, because the compounds do not affect the yeast needed for fermentation. Other appHcations include dehydrated fmits and vegetables, fmit juices, symps and concentrates, and fresh shrimp (79). Sulfites ate destmctive to thiamin, and cannot be used in foods, such as certain baked goods, that ate important sources of this vitamin. [Pg.443]

Bioluminescence functions in mating (fireflies, the Bahama fireworm), in the search for prey (angler fish, Photmus fireflies), camouflage (hatchet fish, squid), schooling (euphausiid shrimp), and to aid deep water fish (flashlight fish, Photoblepharon to see in the dark ocean depths. [Pg.271]

Intensive or extensive culture of aquatic animals requires chemicals that control disease, enhance the growth of cultured species, reduce handling trauma to organisms, improve water quality, disinfect water, and control aquatic vegetation, predaceous insects, or other nuisance organisms. The aquacultural chemical need for various species have been described for rainbow trout, Oncorhjnchus mjkiss (1) Adantic and Pacific salmon, Salmo and Oncorhjnchus sp. (2) channel catfish, Ictaluruspunctatus (3) striped bass, Morone saxatilis (4) milkfish, Chanos chanos (5) moUusks (6) penaeid (Penaeus sp.) shrimp (7) and a variety of other marine species (8). [Pg.319]
