Process control rapid

Batch to batch variations dependent on accurate feeding and process control Rapid temperature rise needs good control... [Pg.135]

Specialized equipment for industrial measurements and automatic control have been developed (18) (see Process control). In general, the pH of an industrial process need not be controlled with great accuracy. Consequendy, frequent standardization of the cell assembly may be uimecessary. On the other hand, the ambient conditions, eg, temperature and humidity, under which the industrial control measurements are made, may be such that the pH meter must be much more robust than those intended for laboratory use. To avoid costiy downtime for repairs, pH instmments may be constmcted of modular units, permitting rapid removal and replacement of a defective subssembly. [Pg.468]

Some fabrication processes, such as continuous panel processes, are mn at elevated temperatures to improve productivity. Dual-catalyst systems are commonly used to initiate a controlled rapid gel and then a fast cure to complete the cross-linking reaction. Cumene hydroperoxide initiated at 50°C with benzyl trimethyl ammonium hydroxide and copper naphthenate in combination with tert-huty octoate are preferred for panel products. Other heat-initiated catalysts, such as lauroyl peroxide and tert-huty perbenzoate, are optional systems. Eor higher temperature mol ding processes such as pultmsion or matched metal die mol ding at temperatures of 150°C, dual-catalyst systems are usually employed based on /-butyl perbenzoate and 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-di-2-ethyIhexanoylperoxy-hexane (Table 6). [Pg.318]

A wide variety of particle size measurement methods have evolved to meet the almost endless variabiUty of iadustrial needs. For iastance, distinct technologies are requited if in situ analysis is requited, as opposed to sampling and performing the measurement at a later time and/or in a different location. In certain cases, it is necessary to perform the measurement in real time, such as in an on-line appHcation when size information is used for process control (qv), and in other cases, analysis following the completion of the finished product is satisfactory. Some methods rapidly count and measure particles individually other methods measure numerous particles simultaneously. Some methods have been developed or adapted to measure the size distribution of dry or airborne particles, or particles dispersed inhquids. [Pg.130]

The objective ia any analytical procedure is to determine the composition of the sample (speciation) and the amounts of different species present (quantification). Spectroscopic techniques can both identify and quantify ia a single measurement. A wide range of compounds can be detected with high specificity, even ia multicomponent mixtures. Many spectroscopic methods are noninvasive, involving no sample collection, pretreatment, or contamination (see Nondestructive evaluation). Because only optical access to the sample is needed, instmments can be remotely situated for environmental and process monitoring (see Analytical METHODS Process control). Spectroscopy provides rapid real-time results, and is easily adaptable to continuous long-term monitoring. Spectra also carry information on sample conditions such as temperature and pressure. [Pg.310]

Mass Spectrometer. The mass spectrometer is the principal analytical tool of direct process control for the estimation of tritium. Gas samples are taken from several process points and analy2ed rapidly and continually to ensure proper operation of the system. Mass spectrometry is particularly useful in the detection of diatomic hydrogen species such as HD, HT, and DT. Mass spectrometric detection of helium-3 formed by radioactive decay of tritium is still another way to detect low levels of tritium (65). Accelerator mass spectroscopy (ams) has also been used for the detection of tritium and carbon-14 at extremely low levels. The principal appHcation of ams as of this writing has been in archeology and the geosciences, but this technique is expected to faciUtate the use of tritium in biomedical research, various clinical appHcations, and in environmental investigations (66). [Pg.15]

Topography characterization of nominally smooth surftices process control when characterizing periodic structure can be applied in situ in some cases rapid amenable to automation... [Pg.54]

Methodology for the enantioselective synthesis of a broad range of chiral starting materials, by both chiral catalytic and controller-directed processes, is rapidly becoming an important factor in synthesis. The varied collection of molecules which are accessible by this technology provides another type of chiral S-goal for retrosynthetic analysis. [Pg.35]

Process validation is the procedure that allows one to establish the critical operating parameters of a manufacturing process. Hence, the constraints imposed by the FDA as part of process control and validation of an SMB process. The total industrial SMB system, as described, is a continuous closed-loop chromatographic process, from the chromatographic to recycling unit and, with the use of numerical simulation software allows the pharmaceutical manufacturer rapidly to design and develop worst-case studies. [Pg.282]

Fluid catalytic cracking rapidly overtook its competitors as both a source of fuel and of critical organic intermediates. Prior to 1942, the Houdry Process controlled 90 percent of the catalytic fuel market. But only three years later, in 1945, fluid cracking led all other catalytic cracking processes in market share (40 percent). At this time Thermofor technology stood at 31 percent, and Houdry at less chan 30 percent. [Pg.993]

The Cluster Tool Concept. A recent trend in semiconductor equipment is the integration of two or more functions, such as CVD, PVD, etching, stripping, or rapid thermal processing, in one piece of equipment the so-called cluster tool. A continuous vacuum can be maintained, a feature which reduces the handling and contamination problems, increases the overall throughput, improves the process control, and generally lowers the cost. [Pg.363]

Products in Group 3 seem to us to represent the future of practical batch process control. In such systems, modern workstations perform the single-user functions (e.g control system design, set-up, and maintenance operator interface data collection historical reporting) for which they were designed, while powerful multitasking controllers perform actual control. As computer hardware and software standards continue to evolve toward distributed networks of processors optimized for specific kinds of tasks, such systems will, we feel, proliferate rapidly. [Pg.474]

Scale-up can also have a significant effect on the basic process control system and safety systems in a reactive process. In particular, a larger process will likely require more temperature sensors at different locations in the process to be able to rapidly detect the onset of out-of-control situations. Consideration should be given to the impact of higher-temperature gradients in plant-scale equipment compared to a laboratory or pilot plant reactor (Hendershot 2002). [Pg.26]
