Long-term monitoring

Construct a graph of pH as a function of time, and suggest an appropriate sampling frequency for a long-term monitoring program. 

The objective ia any analytical procedure is to determine the composition of the sample (speciation) and the amounts of different species present (quantification). Spectroscopic techniques can both identify and quantify ia a single measurement. A wide range of compounds can be detected with high specificity, even ia multicomponent mixtures. Many spectroscopic methods are noninvasive, involving no sample collection, pretreatment, or contamination (see Nondestructive evaluation). Because only optical access to the sample is needed, instmments can be remotely situated for environmental and process monitoring (see Analytical METHODS Process control). Spectroscopy provides rapid real-time results, and is easily adaptable to continuous long-term monitoring. Spectra also carry information on sample conditions such as temperature and pressure.

Long-term follow-up monitors patients for continued disease remission or relapse with careful physical examination of the lymph nodes and sites of prior disease involvement and imaging studies. Patients will have routine chest x-rays and CT scans administered to screen for recurrence of disease. Patients require long-term monitoring for toxicities of their primary treatment, either chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Because DMPK properties vary among different species, in vitro human and animal data and in vivo animal data cannot always be extrapolated to human in vivo responses. The three main reasons that drugs fail during clinical trials are (1) lack of efficacy, (2) unacceptable adverse effects, and (3) unfavorable ADME properties. Hence, clinical development is necessary to establish solid experiment-based human exposure and safety data through both short- and long-term monitoring.

An increase has also been observed in the LAS concentration in the aqueous phase during the cold season, due to reduced microbial activity [3,18,23].
