Direct control

The reactivity of the halogens decreases m the order F2 > CI2 > Br2 > I2 Fluo rme is an extremely aggressive oxidizing agent and its reaction with alkanes is strongly exothermic and difficult to control Direct fluonnation of alkanes requires special equip ment and techniques is not a reaction of general applicability and will not be discussed further... [Pg.166]

The written directives of a quality control program are a necessary, but not a sufficient, condition for obtaining and maintaining an analysis in a state of statistical control. Although quality control directives explain how an analysis should be properly conducted, they do not indicate whether the system is under statistical control. This is the role of quality assessment, which is the second component of a quality assurance program. [Pg.708]

In the Premier Mill the rotor is shaped hke the frustrum of a cone, similar to that in Fig. 20-53. Surfaces are smooth, and adjustment of the clearance can be made from 25 [Lm (0.001 in) upward. A small impeller helps to feed material into the rotor gap. The mill is jacketed for temperature control. Direct-connected hquid-type mills are available with 15- to 38-cm (6- to 15-in) rotors. These mills operate at 3600 r/min at capacities up to 2 mVh (500 gal/h). They are powered with up to 28 kW (40 hp). Working parts are made of Invar alloy, which does not expand enough to change the grinding gap if heating occurs. The rotor is faced with Stellite or silicon carbide tor wear resistance. For pilot-plant operations, the Premier Mill is available with 7.5- and 10-cm (3- and 4-in) rotors. These mills are belt-driven and operate at 7200 to 17,000 r/min with capacities of 0,02 to 2 mVh (5 to 50 gal/h). [Pg.1864]

Methodology for the enantioselective synthesis of a broad range of chiral starting materials, by both chiral catalytic and controller-directed processes, is rapidly becoming an important factor in synthesis. The varied collection of molecules which are accessible by this technology provides another type of chiral S-goal for retrosynthetic analysis. [Pg.35]

Air diffuser A circular, linear, rectangular or square device from which supply air is discharged in a controlled direction. [Pg.1407]

Digital control A control loop in which a microprocessor-based controller directly controls equipment by means of sensors. Its operation depends on a series of on-off pulses arranged to convey information. [Pg.1429]

A 6-J--in. outside diameter turbine motor (whose performance data are given in Tables -4-110 and 4-111) is to be used for a deviation control direction drilling operation. The motor will use a new 8- -in. diameter diamond bit for the drilling operation. The directional run is to take place at a depth of 17,552 ft (measured... [Pg.873]

The reactor pressure is not directly controlled instead, it floats on the main column overhead receiver, A pressure controller on the overhead receiver controls the wet gas compressor and indirectly controls the reactor pressure. The regenerator pressure is often controlled directly by regulating the flue gas slide or butterfly valve. In some cases, the flue gas slide or butterfly valve is used to control the differential pressure between the regenerator and reactor. [Pg.178]

Direct costs are costs for maintenance of materials, operating of supplies labour, control direct costs laboratory etc. [Pg.259]

Each solvent passes from its reservoir directly to a pump and from the pump to a mixing manifold. After mixing, the solvents pass to the sample valve and column. The pumps control the actual program and are usually driven by stepping motors. The volume delivery of each solvent is controlled by the speed of the respective pump. In turn, the speed of each motor is precisely determined by the frequency of its power supply which can be either generated by external oscillators or, if the chromatograph is computer controlled, directly from the computer itself. [Pg.126]

A specific example where heterogeneous supports provide nanoparticle size-control is the immobilization of homogeneous silver nanoparticles on polystyrene [366]. This work was extended later to the development of a one-pot method for the size-selective precipitation of silver nanoparticles on PVP-protected thiol-functionalized silica. During the immobilization of very small silver nanoclusters both the size of the silver nanoclusters and the thickness of the silver layer on the support could be controlled directly by the reaction parameters applied (Fi re 16) [367]. [Pg.36]

The second question concerns the quality of the chemical control, directed more at the chemical analysis proper and its procedure. Important factors here are sufficient specificity and accuracy together with a short analysis time. In connection with accuracy, we can possible consider the quantization of the analytical information obtainable. For instance, from the above example of titration, if we assume for the pH measurement an accuracy of 0.02, an uncertainty remains of 0.04 over a total range of 14.0, which means a gain in information of n1 = 14.0/0.04 = 350 (at least 8 bits) with an accuracy of 5% as a mean for the titration end-point establishment of both acids, the remaining uncertainty of 1% over a range of 2 x 100% means a gain in information of n2 = 200 (at least 7 bits), so that the two-dimensional presentation of this titration represents a quantity of information I = 2log nx n2 = 15 bits at least. [Pg.320]

Moreover, the use of heat-flow calorimetry in heterogeneous catalysis research is not limited to the measurement of differential heats of adsorption. Surface interactions between adsorbed species or between gases and adsorbed species, similar to the interactions which either constitute some of the steps of the reaction mechanisms or produce, during the catalytic reaction, the inhibition of the catalyst, may also be studied by this experimental technique. The calorimetric results, compared to thermodynamic data in thermochemical cycles, yield, in the favorable cases, useful information concerning the most probable reaction mechanisms or the fraction of the energy spectrum of surface sites which is really active during the catalytic reaction. Some of the conclusions of these investigations may be controlled directly by the calorimetric studies of the catalytic reaction itself. [Pg.260]

In both the entropy and energy representations the extensive parameters are the independent variables, whereas the intensive parameters are derived concepts. This is in contrast to reality in the laboratory where the intensive parameters, like the temperature, are the more easily measurable while a variable such as entropy cannot be measured or controlled directly. It becomes an attractive possibility to replace extensive by intensive variables as... [Pg.418]

In the European Union the key instrument governing the prevention and control of pollution is the 1996 IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) Directive [10]. Member States were required to implement this Directive through national legislation and regulation by September 1999. [Pg.47]

The visualizations of the various practices may seem needlessly complex to the uninstructed. However, the various details are essentially to assure that the normally free-ranging consciousness remains engaged within the psychic region under focus for regeneration. The details of the visualizations are in fact safety nets. Consciousness can flicker between two objects, literally, at the speed of thought. The mental constructions, the thought-forms, we build in our practices are like the reins of a chariot drawn by powerful horses. The reins control, direct, and harness the motive power. [Pg.107]

Basically, these involve the addition of three electronically activated Teflon valves to direct the flow of gas from the gas-hquid separator and over the Galahad instrument. One valve is controlled directly from the vapour generator and this only diverts the argon containing mercury stream over the gold trap for a preset time. The additional two valves are controlled by the Galahad cycle so that the revaporized mercury can be directed to the Merlin detector for measurement. In this manner the flows for preconcentration and the flows for measurement can be optimized individually. The operation of these valves is shown schematically in Fig. 7. IS. [Pg.218]

In this method, the silver-bearing solution is passed between two electrodes through which a controlled direct electric current flows as shown in Figure 3. Silver plates out on the cathodes as almost pure metal. [Pg.116]
