Pressure-sensitive coated sheet

Carbonless Copy Paper. In carbonless copy paper, also referred to as pressure-sensitive record sheet, an acid-sensitive dye precursor, such as crystal violet lactone or /V-hen2oy11eucomethy1ene blue, is microencapsulated with a high boiling solvent or oil within a cross-linked gelatin (76,83,84) or in synthetic mononuclear microcapsules. Microcapsules that have a starch binder are coated onto the back of the top sheet. This is referred to as a coated-back (CB) sheet. The sheet intended to receive the image is treated on the front (coated-front (CF)) with an acid. When the top sheet is mechanically impacted, the dye capsules mpture and the dye solution is transferred to the receiving sheet where the acid developer activates the dye.

Ziac foil coated with a conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive is used for repair of other ziac coatings or for imparting corrosion resistance at field sites. The 0.08-mm ziac tape or sheet has a 0.025-mm coaductive adhesive. The laminate is cut to size and pressed tightly to activate the adhesive. Conductive tape can be wrapped around pipe, especially around welds or connections. The corrosion resistance of this material is iatermediate between galvanized or thermally sprayed coatings and zinc-filled paints (21,50). 

Pressure sensitive adhesives can be coated on a substrate such as a polyester or paper backing to make a tape or label, or on a release liner to make a transfer adhesive, or a special substrate to make a graphic film or retro-reflective sheeting product. In some cases, where precision placement of the PSA is required, one may also coat directly on the substrate using techniques such as screen-printing. 

Pressure-sensitive recording materials are obtained by dissolving a triphenylmethane leuco dye in a solvent composed of paraffin oils. The microcapsules are formed from a water-soluble106 or water-dispersible material.107,108 Leuco dyes dissolved in sunflower oil are microencapsulated in a solution containing a melamine-HCHO precondensate and coated on the back side of a paper sheet. Contact of the microcapsule-coated sheet with an acid-coated receptor sheet allows the color formation to occur. 

Self-Adhesive or Pressure-Sensitive Labels. It is preferable to call these pressure-sensitive labels, as both the pregummed and heat-sensitive labels are self-adhesive (i.e., the adhesive is already there). They consist of a suitable label facing material (usually paper or polymer), the reverse side of which is coated with a permanently tacky adhesive that is in contact with a backing paper (occasionally plastic) that protects it prior to use. The backing paper is coated with a special release coating that permits the label to be removed easily. Labels may be provided on roll or sheet form both can have the label laid on that is, the unprinted area has been cut and removed. 

An urethane-based pressure-sensitive adhesive composed of a liquid hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene and a polyisocyanate does not require a solvent in coatings onto label sheets. This polymer together with the (polystyrene-co-butadiene) copolymer and a polyisocyanate was applied in steel coatings 239 240>. 

This product is an ultraviolet light absorber for use in polystyrene, unsaturated polyesters, coatings, varnishes, lacquers, and coatings based on epoxy or phenolic alkyds. It is also used in pressure sensitive adhesives, polymethylacrylate (fdm or sheeting), thermoplastic rubbers, polyisoprene latex and alcohol based cosmetics. 

A weight G (approx. 250 g) acts on a sheet of paper (on a smooth board). A paper coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive (Multi-adhesive memo sheets available at the stationery shop are best suited) is loaded by force F, according to Figure 11.2, drawing (a) (shear stress). It is possible to draw the paper sheet over the board with the weight on it. 

The laminate sheet is a flexible decorative sheet for use in surfacing an automobile body panel. The laminate revealed in this invention contains several layers, including clearcoat, tie coat, color coat, and adhesive layer. Clearcoat is formulated from polyvinylidene fluoride (to assure excellent weather resistance), tie coat is formulated from acrylic (good adhesion to both clear coat and color coat and weather resistance), color coat was formulated from PVC (see formulation in the above table) and adhesive was pressure sensitive acrylic formulation.

Principal styrenic TPE markets are molded shoe soles and other footwear extruded film/sheet and wire/cable covering and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) and hot-melt adhesives, viscosity index (VI) improver additives in lube oils, resin modifiers, and asphalt modifiers. Pressure-sensitive adhesives are permanently tacky substances that adhere spontaneously to the surfaces of most materials with only light pressure [36]. Their adhesiveness is relatively nonspecific, although the individual products show different adhesion values on different substrates. Pressure-sensitive adhesives are used mostly for coating supports, for example, paper and film tapes, adhesive labels, or self-adhesive decorative sheeting. The adhesives are applied to the supports as solutions, dispersions, or melts. Release Paper n A layer of paper which can be readily separated from the surface of a plastic article to which it has been applied or against which the plastic article has been formed. The term applies to papers used to protect the surfaces of plastic sheets, to temporary backings for pressure-sensitive adhesives, and to papers used as temporary carriers in film- and foam-casting processes. Solid acids are utilized as one component of pressure sensitive recording paper. The principle of the carbonless paper is indicator color change by adsorption on solid acids. The model construction of carbonless paper consists of a set of two types of paper as schematically shown in Fig. 6.4. The top sheet is coated with indicators encapsulated in microcapsules, and the bottom sheet is coated with solid acids. Applying pressure to the top sheet destroys the microcapsule, and the indicator is released and transferred to the solid acids on the bottom sheet to be adsorbed.
