Film tapes

Film tapes have by far the largest production volume. According to the deformation properties there are two kinds of film tapes. [Pg.116]

Rigid Film Tapes. Cellophane is the oldest transparent tape backing. It is fairly strong and transparent and is widely used to fasten package wrappings, to seal cartons, and [Pg.116]

Cellulose acetate film is resistant to moisture but lacks the toughness of cellophane. In combination with an age-resistant acrylic adhesive and a matte backside it is used in many countries for office tapes, to repair torn books, etc. [Pg.117]

Considerable amounts of oriented poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) films are used for tapes in Europe. In combination with solvent-based rubber-resin adhesives, they yield high-performance packaging tapes with smooth unwind characteristic without the need for a backsize. [Pg.117]

Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) tapes with hot-melt adhesives based on styre-nic block copolymers have now attained the biggest share of the market for cartonsealing tapes. They require a backsize, and on unwinding they evolve much noise. [Pg.117]

Thermoplastic Processing. Poly(ethylene oxide) resins can be thermoplasticaHy formed into soHd products, eg, films, tapes, plugs, retainers, and fillers (qv). Through the use of plasticizers (qv), poly(ethylene oxide) can be extmded, molded, and calendered on conventional thermoplastic... [Pg.342]

An important application for polypropylene is film tape. This is made by slitting unoriented film (cast or blown) into tapes 2 or 3.5 mm wide and stretching under heat about seven-fold. With cast film the orientation is more completely monoaxial and there is a tendency for the film to split along its length (fibrillate). Tubular film does not self-split so easily and also has a somewhat softer feel. Such tapes may be woven into sacks and these have... [Pg.264]

Film tapes may also be made drawn up to 10 1 ratios and then fibrillated by pin rollers, embossed rollers or some other technique. Fibrillated tape has been a substantial replacement for sisal. [Pg.265]

In the case of polyolefins the dispersing performance of single-screw extruders and injection molding machines is not sufficiently to undertake high-quality coloration (fibers, film, tape) with powder pigments or pigment mixtures. [Pg.163]

Oriented, bi-oriented and cast films and foils for food, non-food and medical packaging, confectionery, tobacco, clothing packaging, medical pouches, monoblister packaging, film tapes, straps. .. [Pg.57]

Extrusion is a continuous conversion process via melting and subsequent transformation of granules or powders of biodegradable polymers and additives into semifinished or finished articles like sheets, profiles, tubes, bottles, films, tapes or... [Pg.115]

Conformable tape (for Eppendorf tube gaskets) is plastic film tape No. 471, from 3M Company and distributors. Other types of soft Teflon or polyvinyl film are equally suitable. [Pg.306]

There are several common forms of solid epoxy adhesives. These include film, tape, powder, and preformed shapes. Certain formulations are better suited for specific forms. For example, casting of tape or film adhesive from solvent solutions lends itself to working with multicomponent hybrid systems, where each resin can be solubilized and blended together in a universal solvent. B-staged systems are generally more brittle and better suited for powders or preformed adhesives. [Pg.247]

Similar to slit film fiber, fibrillated tape fiber is produced. However a draw ratio of up to 1 10 is used and a fibrillation step is added to the process. The slit film tapes are fibrillated by passing them over a rapidly rotating roll fitted with staggered rows of pins. As the pins are traveling faster than the tapes, they make a series of short discrete cuts in the longitudinal direction of the tapes. [Pg.267]

The objective of this work has been to generate films, tapes or ribbons which might serve as a prepreg from blends of either an Ultem or a PEEK or a high molecular weight PPS with various liquid crystalline polymers, to identify the parameters that control the formation of reinforcing microfibrils of LCP phase, and to study the mechanical properties of the composite films. [Pg.417]

Monoaxially oriented polypropylene film tapes have been widely used for carpet backing and for woven sacks (replacing those made from jute). Combining strength and lightness, oriented PP straps have gained rapid and widespread acceptance for packaging. [Pg.394]

In tape-automated bonding (TAB), the semiconductor die, fabricated with bumped interconnect pads, are positioned in apertures of a polymer-film tape, generally polyimide (Kapton , a registered trademark of DuPont), then gang-bonded to cantilevered beams that are formed by photodelineated metal pads on the tape. The tape (film) has sprocket holes along its sides similar to movie film and, like movie film, is handled on reels in automatic equipment for high-speed assembly. ... [Pg.12]

Often the problem with reels is that they re edited to look like TV shows. So you think, well, that s the subject, and it could be turned into a TV show, but you don t know how good the film is going to be. In other words, they shouldn t be too slick—or, they should be slick, but [you want] to edit them so that they look like the final film. Tapes can be much rawer, but something attractive on them tells you what the impact of the final film would be. [Pg.283]

Uses Plasticizer for PVC and rubber formulations such as wire and cable coatings offering good elec, props., film, tape, and coated fabrics Features Good humidity stability, migration resist, to rubber, oil and hexane resist., low volatility Properties Low odor med. m.w. [Pg.32]

The classic geotextiles are fabricated in two steps, i.e. the production of fibres, filaments, slit films (tapes), or yams followed by converting these constituent materials into a fabric. The constituent materials required for the manufacture of geotextiles are produced using various techniques, as discussed below."... [Pg.119]

In the seaming of articles, use of hot melts is limited to relatively simple operations such as joining of straight edges. The thermoplastic material can be incorporated into the fabric or there is a wide range of films, tapes, nets and even coaled threads that can be sandwiched between layers of non-thermoplastic material. [Pg.37]

Direct transport measurements are generally employed on thin films, tapes and coated conductors. They quickly reach their natural limits as the currents go up and/or the cross-section of the conductor increases. They are fast, i.e., can be started immediately after the magnetic field is set, and trace the I-V characteristics, which is of course most valuable if flux creep or thermally assisted flux flow (Kes et al. 1989) prevails, because the electric field is directly determined. On the other hand, must be defined by a criterion e.g., 1 [xV/cm. It will be affected by the presence of stabilising materials, the silver tube or conducting substrates, and thus generally refers to the overall Jc, wfrich can be converted to the critical current density of the superconductor if the shape and the volume fraction of the superconducting material are known. [Pg.196]
