Sheet coating

Vast amounts of continuously galvanised steel sheets are produced, and unless they are painted or otherwise coated, their life depends on the thickness of the galvanising and the service environment in which they are used. Similarly in the case of steel sheets coated with aluminium or aluminium-zinc alloys, their performance is dictated by their coating thickness (see Section 13.4). A problem often associated with such material is corrosion at the cut edges. From work carried out by BISRA and others it has been shown that providing the bare steel edge is less than 3 mm in width, the amount of corrosion is minimal and the life of the sheet is not adversely... [Pg.47]

Plastic products are made by a variety of basic manufacturing processes. As an example a major method such as extrusion has subdivisions that include profile, pipe, tube, film, sheet, coating, post forming, etc. equipment In injection molding there are subdivisions such as coinjection, gas assist, foam, inmold decorating, etc. equipment. There are literally hundreds of processes used with only about the dozen, as reviewed in this chapter, that are principally used (2). [Pg.442]

The silver-silver chloride RE consists of a small length of silver wire or piece of silver sheet coated with a thin layer of silver chloride (this layer can be deposited by anodic polarization of the silver in chloride-contaiifing solution) and dipping into HCl or KCl solutions of defined concentration its E° = 0.2224 V. [Pg.195]

If a voltage is applied across two platinum electrodes (usually platinum sheets coated with platinum black) placed in an electrolytic solution, an electric current will be transferred to an extent that is in accordance with the amounts and the mobilities of the free positive and negative ions present in the solution. Under the precautions required (see Section 2.1.1.2), the experiment obeys Ohm s law, which here can be described by... [Pg.28]

Butyl benzyl phthalate is a plasticizer added to polymers to give flexibility and softness. It is used extensively in polyvinyl chloride and in cellulose plastics, polyvinyl acetate, polysulfides, and polyurethane. Also used in flexographic inks for food packaging applications and acrylic coatings, profile extrusions, slush moulding, film and sheeting, coated fabrics, floor and wall coverings, vinyl foams and plastisols for car sealants. [Pg.296]

The experiments were conducted in cold rooms and in an icing wind tunnel in a temperature range of -dO C to -1°C and with wind velocity up to 100 m/s. The range of heating density, W, varied from 500 wW to 250 kW/m. In this paper we present results obtained on a prototype of an automotive windshield deicer. The deicer was made of 356 mm x 356 mm x 6mm soda-lime glass sheet coated with 0.3 pm layer of indium tin oxide (ITO), a common transparent conductor. The ITO layer had a sheet-resistance of 8 ohm and was scratch-protected with an approximately... [Pg.54]

The orientation of cellulosic fibers has some effect on the conductivity of the paper. The conductivity in the XY plane of the sheet (surface conductivity parallel to most of the fibers) may be quite different from the conductivity along the Z direction (bulk conductivity perpendicular to the fibers). Comparison of surface and bulk conductivity for a given paper sheet can thus yield information which reflects the anisostropy in the structural morphology due to fiber orientation. Bulk conductivity measurements are also important since many paper sheets used in reprographic processes are composed of a conductive base sheet coated with a dielectric material 16. One important specification for these types of papers is the value of the bulk conductivity of the base paper. [Pg.502]

Galvanized iron is steel sheet that has been coated with zinc tin cans are made of steel sheet coated with tin. Discuss the functions of these coatings and the electrochemistry of the corrosion reactions that occur if an electrolyte contacts the scratched surface of a galvanized iron sheet or a tin can. [Pg.794]

The NS-100 membrane (initially designated as NS-1) was the first noncellu-losic composite membrane to appear in the published literature and have an impact on the reverse osmosis scene.22/23 This membrane, invented by Cadotte,24 consisted of a microporous polysulfone sheet coated with polyethylenimine, then interfacially reacted with either 2,4-toluenediisocyanate (TDI) or with isophthaloyl chloride (IPC). In the first case, a polyurea is formed in the second case, a polyamide. The chemistry of this membrane is as follows ... [Pg.314]

The activity was measured with a tubular reactor imder atmospheric pressure. The sheets coated with catalyst were cut into pieces of 0.2-0.3x2-3 cm. A bimdle of pieces with ca 0.3 g catalyst were put in the tube vertically. A gas mixture of 1.5 vol% CH4 and 98.5 vol% air was used as feed at GHSV 60000 mlg h calculated according to the weight of the catalyst layer. An Angilent 4890 gas chromatograph with a thermal conductivity detector was used. [Pg.666]
