Polyethylene plastics

The first example refers to the detection of a 1mm side drilled hole at a depth of 45 mm in a polyethylene plastic material. Due to the high sound absorption in plastics, a low operating frequency is chosen. A probe having a 1 MHz element of 24 mm diameter was selected for this example. The echo pattern of a conventional probe with a PZT transducer is pre-... [Pg.709]

Lubrication of all ground glass surfaces is essential for distillations under reduced pressure. Suitable lubricants are Apiezon grease L, M or N and Silicone stopcock grease also Alkathene (a polyethylene plastic), which is especially suitable for high temperatures. [Pg.225]

Some by-product polyethylene waxes have been recently introduced. The feedstock for these materials are mixtures of low molecular weight polyethylene fractions and solvent, generaHy hexane, produced in making polyethylene plastic resin. The solvent is stripped from the mixture, and the residual material offered as polyethylene wax. The products generaHy have a wider molecular weight distribution than the polyethylene waxes synthesised directly, and are offered to markets able to tolerate that characteristic. Some of the by-product polyethylene waxes are distHled under vacuum to obtain a narrower molecular weight distribution. [Pg.317]

While the PEM disk is in a beaker, there may be a tendency for the film to curl and lift on the steam bubbles, rising to the surface. It should be kept submerged so the top side doesn t get exposed to air. Use a clean inert polyethylene plastic or glass probe to keep it down in the dipping solution. [Pg.2]

A more common contraceptive device is the intrauterine device (IUD). The first type of intrauterine device used was undedicated. These have received increased attention since the use of polyethylene plastics and silicone rubbers [194-196], These materials had the ability to resume their shape following distortion. Because they are unmedicated, these IUDs cannot be classifieds as sustained-release products. It is believed that their mechanism of action is due to local endometrial responses, both cellular and cytosecretory... [Pg.523]

The lions share, 80-90%, of the alpha olefins produced in. the United States are used In five areas as comonomers in LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) and HDPE (high density polyethylene), plasticizer alcohols, polyalpha olefins for use in synthetic lubricants, detergent alcohols, and surfactants. The comonomer demand started out exclusively as butene-1, but it is shifting toward hexene-1 and octene-1. Similarly, the specification... [Pg.311]

Short-term preservation (several weeks) can usually be successfully accomplished by generous application of polyethylene plastic wrap and duct-tape. Be careful in applying the tape to avoid direct contact with the items. The adhesive can be left behind on the part and when removed, can take with it important dust, fibers, or other data. Even short-term preservation requires some control of access, chain of custody documentation and conspicuously posted signs. Many workers are genuinely curious to learn and see for themselves what the damaged or essential part actually looks like, and may unintentionally cause changes. [Pg.164]

A new large pit was constructed at the Agronomy-Agricultural Engineering Research Center with two thicknesses of 6-mil black polyethylene plastic film as a liner. More intensive research was conducted in 56 plastic mlniplts to evaluate chemical interactions, degradation, and biological activity (2). [Pg.29]

Many plastic materials are acid resistant, among them is "Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene). This material resists acids but does not withstand high temps. "Silastic resists nitric acid well. Polyethylene plastic and chlorinated polyethylene are also good acid resistors... [Pg.92]

When setting up an 02 electrode it is important to make sure that there is a thin film of KCl electrolyte between the membrane and the Pt cathode. One way to ensure this is to place a small piece ( 10 mm square) of single-thickness facial tissue (paper handkerchief) between the cathode and the membrane this will prevent the membrane from being stretched too tight and excluding the electrolyte. The author has found readily available kitchen polyethylene plastic wrap to be an excellent material for 02 electrode membranes. [Pg.390]

Sampling tools should be made of unpainted wood, polyethylene (plastic) or steel (unpainted spade). Field observation sheets for humus and soil are included in this manual (see Appendix 1). [Pg.22]

Five and twenty-three hundredths grams of germanium(IV) oxide (0.05 mol) is dissolved in 15 ml. of a concentrated aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid (47 %). A platinum evaporating dish or a polyethylene plastic beaker is used to keep silicon contamination to a minimum. A solution of 10.5 g. of barium chloride (0.05 mol) in 50 ml. of water is added. Barium hexafluorogermanate forms as a white, granular precipitate, which is filtered and washed free of chloride. The product is dried by heating to 300° in vacuo and is stored in a desiccator over phosphorus(V) oxide. The yield is 15.24 g. (94%). [Pg.147]

The cycle times typically range from 3 to 15 minutes. However they can be at least 30 minutes for large and thick products. The wall thickness of the parts affects cycle times, but not in a direct ratio. As an example, with polyethylene plastic the cycle time increases by about 30 s for every 25 mils of added thickness up to 14 in. thickness. Beyond l/4 in. the heat insulating effect of the walls increases cycle times disproportional for any further increase in thickness cycle times usually have to be determined experimentally and/or with prior experience. [Pg.429]

Four types of REY zeolite (Si/Al = 4.8) with different crystal sizes and acidic properties were used. The physical and chemical properties of the fresh zeolites are given in Table 6.4. Polyethylene plastics-derived heavy oil, shown in Table 6.2, was used as the feed oil. The cracking reaction was conducted in a tubular reactor filled with catalyst particles under the following conditions time factor W/F = 0.2-3.0 kg-catkg oil h and reaction temperature = 300-450°C. The lumping of reaction products were gas (carbon number 1-4), gasoline (5-11), heavy oil (above 12), and a carbonaceous residue referred to as coke. The index of the gasoline quality used was the research octane number (RON), which was calculated from Equation 6.1 [31]. [Pg.175]

Nickel is a well-known catalyst component and is thought to play an important role in the transformation of the hydrogen of steam to hydrocarbons. Hence, a part of the rare earth metal in REY is exchanged with Ni to become prepared Ni and the rare earth metal-exchanged Y-type zeolite catalyst (Ni-REY) [14, 15]. The physical and chemical properties of the catalysts are listed in Table 6.8. The polyethylene plastics-derived heavy oil shown in Table 6.2 was used as the feed oil. [Pg.183]
