Installation planning

Clearly, the factors determining Ko are far more complex than is indicated by a simple application of the Kozeny-Carman equation, and when possible, filter design should be based on experimental determinations made under conditions approximating those expected in the planned installation. [Pg.1601]

Internal electric lighting. Illumination is a specialist field and requires correct planning, installation and switching schedules. Remember that this energy is paid for twice - to put it in and then to take it out again. [Pg.352]

Prior to software installation, a back-out or roll-back plan and procedure must be documented. If the planned installation fails, the back-out plan is implemented and the restoration activities and results are documented. The back-out plan includes information on performing a backup of the system, and/or making use of an existing backup of the system, which has been verified prior to software installation... [Pg.70]

Today, the planned installation of new oil fired steam boilers is essentially nil. Table II shows that approximately 96,000 mw of capacity will remain in place in 1987. These units were put into service primarily in the mid-1960fs and have 10-30 years of useful life remaining. Installed capacity of liquid fueled combined cycle units is expected to grow from 3000 to 8000 mw over this time period. These units generate electricity more efficiently than conventional boilers. Combined cycle capacity is projected to be utilized much more extensively than in the past. As a result, the anticipated quantity of power generated from combined cycle equipment may increase nine-fold from 4,000 to 36,000 million Kilowatt hours as shown in Table III. Unfortunately, the future use of petroleum liquids for this kind of operation has been jeopardized by the recently legislated Fuel Use Act. This Act requires coal to be used instead of petroleum for new power stations. [Pg.13]

In Curacao, the major island of the Netherlands Antilles with a population of 130,000 inhabitants, distilled seawater from the water plant was used without further purification for hemodialysis for several decades. Unfortunately, two months before the planned installation of a water treatment system including a reversed osmosis (RO) in the dialysis center Diatel, a new distribution pipe supplying water to a dialysis center on the island was installed in 1996. To protect it from corrosion, this pipe was lined on the inside with a cement mortar. Because of the aggressiveness of the distilled water, calcium and Al leached from the cement mortar into the water used to prepare dialysate. At the time of replacement of the new conduit pipe, 29 patients were dialyzed in the dialysis unit. Patients were dialyzed three times per week during 3.5 to 4.5 hours using hollow fiber kidneys (Fresenius, F6 and F8). Untreated tap... [Pg.4]

A unique set of circumstances was responsible for symptoms resembling hard water syndrome [64] followed by an epidemic of acute Al encephalopathy in a dialysis unit (Diatel) on the island of Curasao. A tragic coincidence is that the intoxication happened about two months before the planned installation of a water treatment system with deionization and reverse osmosis (RO). Traditionally, municipal water had been used for more than two decades without extended purification for the production of dialysate. The pure... [Pg.13]

Descriptions of selected modular incinerator installations burning municipal solid waste may be found in References 11 through 14, Table I shows a summary of most of the modular units installed between 1974 and 1978 with a number of planned installations also indicated. A survey of 14 manufacturers of small incinerators made in 1975 by Hofmann disclosed that before 1975, there were 37 municipal plants with a total of 95 individual modular incinerators (11). [Pg.76]

The final factor influencing the allocation was the new entrants reserve. As the projected emissions were based on micro data, the allowances for newly commissioned installations were added on top of these emissions. The size of the reserve was set to provide a safe space for the further development of the economy, as only limited information about the planned installations to be put into operation during the first trading period was available, based on the indications of companies. No specific research for this purpose was made. [Pg.277]

Improvements will be made when a planned installation of a new remote control room is complete. Joint positions will be obtained as the digital outputs from 17 bit panel meters and will be interfaced to both the Graphics Display computer and a Teach/Repeat computer. [Pg.372]

Emergency lighting should be planned, installed and maintained to the highest standards of reliability and integrity, so that it will operate satisfactorily when called into action, no matter how infrequently this may be. [Pg.350]

Following the completion of the first draft design of the planned installation, the necessary requirements derived from experience must be established. Applicable laws and technical rules must be observed. In the event that requirements based on experience cannot adequately guarantee system safety, special attention must be devoted to failure effect on the environment. Qualitative analysts will be continued step by step until unequivocal assessment is possible. In the event that qualitative analysis does not furnish a clear statement concerning system safety, and if the expected danger for the environment due to the behavior of the system under consideration requires it, quantitative analysis should follow qualitative analysis. As a rule, quantitative analysis concerns only particularly critical subsystems indicated in the scope of qualitative analysis. [Pg.78]

In principle, the determination of safety requirements for the planned installation is done by means of the preliminary hazard analysis (Figure 4.12). [Pg.80]

Concept Analysis of the Technical Plant after Planning. Preliminary hazard analysis and system structure analysis are intended to facilitate safety evaluation of the planned installation from the basic concept. Comprehensiveness of observation depends on the danger level of the installation. After concluding this work, basic changes in the technical procedure frequently become necessary and must be incorporated into the planning. [Pg.91]

Before the planned installation is built, e.g., before individual components are constructed or ordered, the plan must be checked for safety in all its particulars. At that time verification of the incorporation of previously stipulated requirements is indicated. [Pg.91]

It is possible to enter not only existing technical installations in the risk inventory, but planned installations as well. It can be determined how risk stress will be changed by planned installations and how by suitable location selection high risk values can be avoided. The risk inventory together with the proposed admissibility criteria thus becomes a planning instrument and an objective source of information for persons living in the risk area. [Pg.432]

Notification containing the OPCW request for logistical support for continuous monitoring at the facility shall be provided to the inspected State Party no later than thirty days prior to the planned installation of continuous monitoring system equipment at the facility. Few studies exist regarding group dynamics in highly technical arenas. Even in areas such as production, marketing, and finance, attempts to use one-size-fits-all groupware tools have led to major disasters. Major petrochemical firms have aborted poorly planned installations and written off over 150000000. [Pg.862]
