Oil filter

A common surface cartridge is the pleated paper constmction type, which allows larger filtration areas to be packed iato a small space. Oil filters ia the automobile iadustry are of this type. The paper is impregnated, for strength, with epoxy or polyurethane resia. Any other medium ia sheet form, similar to cellulose paper, such as wool, polypropylene, or glass may be used. [Pg.403]

Air and Oil Filters. Liquid resole resins are used to coat and penetrate the cellulose fibers of filters and separators in order to increase strength and stiffness and protect against attack by the environment. The type of phenoHc to be used depends on both the final property requirements and the papermaking process. [Pg.306]

Air and oil filters are made by a dry-web process in which the filter paper is dried over heated metal dmms. The paper is saturated with the phenoHc resin solution, either off- or on-line, and dried in an oven advancing the resin to the B-stage (semicured). The sheet, containing 20—30% resin, is roUed and shipped to the filter-unit manufacturer, where the sheet is convoluted and the filter assembled and cured to the C-stage (fully cured). [Pg.306]

The resins used in air and oil filters are moderate-to-low molecular weight, catalyzed by caustic in one step 10—20% alcohol is added soHds content is in the range of 50—60%. These resins are designed to penetrate the sheet thoroughly, yet not to affect the porosity of the paper. In the B-stage, the resin must have sufficient flexibiHty to permit pleating the C-stage should have stiffness and resistance to hot oil. [Pg.306]

Lubrication is typically provided by two separate oil pumps—a direct shaft-driven pump on the gear case and an auxiliary electric motor-driven oil pump that is usually mounted on a lube skid or similar sub-base. Oil filters, oil coolers, and oil heaters complete tlie lubrication system, which has many (if not all) feamres in coimuon with traditional auxiliary systems. A typical schematic is shown in Figure 4-42. [Pg.134]

Critical speeds correspond to the natural frequencies of the gears and the rotor bearings support system. A determination of the critical speed is made by knowing the natural frequency of the system and the forcing function. Typical forcing functions are caused by rotor unbalance, oil filters, misalignment, and a synchronous whirl. [Pg.165]

Twin oil coolers (Figure 15-3) should be provided and piped in parallel using a single multiport transflow valve to direct the oil flow to the coolers. The water should be on the tube side and the oil on the shell side. The oil-side pressure should be greater than the water-side pressure. This ratio is no assurance that water will not enter the system in the event of a tube leak, but it does reduce the risk. The oil system should be equipped with twin full-flow oil filters located downstream from the oil coolers. Since the filters are located downstream from the oil coolers, only one multiport transflow valve is required to direct the oil flow to the cooler-filter combinations. Do not pipe the filters and coolers with separate inlet and outlet block valves. [Pg.545]

The minimum alarms and trips reeommended for eaeh major driver and driven maehine should be a low oil pressure alarm, a low oil pressure trip (at some point lower than the alarm point), a low oil level alarm (reservoir), a high oil filter differential pressure alarm, a high bearing metal temperature alarm, and a metal ehip deteetor. A differential pressure switch set to alarm when the pressure drop reaches a predetermined point protects against the loss of oil flow. In addition to the differential pressure switch, a two-way, three-port valve with a pressure gauge is piped in parallel with the differential pressure switch for accurate indication of inlet and outlet oil filter pressure. When a single transflow valve is used with a cooler-filter installation, the differential pressure switch and pressure gauge assembly should span the cooler-filter system. [Pg.551]

Solid impurities must be continuously removed because hydraulic systems are self-contaminating due to wear of hoses, seals and metal parts. Efforts should be made to exclude all solid contaminants from the system altogether. Dirt is introduced with air, the amount of airborne impurities varying with the environment. The air breather must filter to at least the same degree as the oil filters. [Pg.865]

Oil strainers may be of metal mesh and within the sump, in which case the sump must be opened for cleaning. Self-cleaning disc strainers are also used, the dirt falling into a drain pot or into the sump itself. There is an increasing tendency to provide replaceable fabric oil filters external to the compressor body, following automobile practice. [Pg.116]

Certain small-volume injections are available where the dmg is dissolved in a viscous oil because it is insoluble in water non-aqueous solvent must be used, hi addition, drags in non-aqueous solvents provide a depot effect, for example for hormonal compounds. The intramuscular route of injection must be used. The vehicle may be a metabolizable fixed oil such as arachis or sesame oil (but not a mineral oil) or an ester such as ethyl oleate which is also metabolizable. The latter is less viscous and therefore easier to administer but the depot effect is of shorter duration. The dmg is normally dissolved in the oil, filtered under pressure and distributed into ampoules. After sealing, the ampoules are sterilized by dry heat, for example, at 160°C for 2 hours. A bactericide is probably ineffective in such a medium and therefore offers very httle protection against contamination in a multidose oily injection. [Pg.415]

Used oil filters. In order to promote the recycling and recovery of metals and other products from used oil filters, U.S. EPA exempted used oil filters that have been properly drained to remove the used oil. [Pg.496]
