Lube oil units are typieally available in two versions the manu-faeturer s standard or in aeeordanee with API Standard 614. The major eomponents of a unit are the oil tank, auxiliary oil pump, double filter and, seleetively, one or two oil eoolers. All eomponents of the smaller units are mounted on a eommon bedplate, separated from the other eomponents. The oil ean be heated by an eleetrieal or steam-powered heating unit. The neeessary instrumentation is a standard supply item and, if requested, the switehes and motors ean be prewired. The main and auxiliary oil pumps are driven by different types of drivers (e.g., one by an eleetrie motor and the other by either a small steam turbine or by direet eonneetion to the shaft end of a major maehine easing in the turbotrain). [Pg.129]

Lubrication is typically provided by two separate oil pumps—a direct shaft-driven pump on the gear case and an auxiliary electric motor-driven oil pump that is usually mounted on a lube skid or similar sub-base. Oil filters, oil coolers, and oil heaters complete tlie lubrication system, which has many (if not all) feamres in coimuon with traditional auxiliary systems. The lube oil pumps are now ready to be turned on. The pump and filter bypass valves should be open to avoid pressure pulses in the filter eartridges. Strong pressure pulses may eause filter eartridges to eollapse. Typieal filter elements will withstand 35-100 psi differential. If the pumps are turned on with eaeh bypass elosed, an instantaneous pressure of approximately 150 psi will hit the filters. This is due to the setting of the relief valves. The solvent dewaxing process involves addition of solvent during the chilling of the waxy feed. The chilling process induces crystallization of the wax and the solvent is added to maintain the fluidity. The wax crystals are filtered by rotating drum filters, resulting in a lube oil filtrate and a slack wax with entrained solvent and oil. In both fractions, the solvent is recovered by successive vaporization and distillation. [Pg.266]

The primary function of the lube oil console is to supply clean, cool lubricating oil to the bearings of the compressor and its driver. The console is a package of equipment, which is supplied by the compressor vendor and usually includes an oil reservoir, two pumps (a primary and a spare), two filters or filter elements in a duplex-type arrangement, coolers, and associated controls. Carbon contamination of the produced sulfur can result from liquid hydrocarbon droplets in the feed gas or by condensation of feed gas hydrocarbons. This problem is besr avoided by operating the process about 10°F above the feed gas hydrocarbon dew point and by removing any hydrocarbon aerosol in the feed gas (compressor lube oil, etc.) with a coalescing filter (Allen, 1995). Yet another potential form of sulfur contamination can occur when the feed gas contains a significant amount of mcrcaptans. Any disulfides formed will lend to coat the surface of the sulfur particles. If the sulfur is to be recovered as a salable product, special attention needs to be paid to the design of the overall system to avoid production of low-quality, disulfide-contaminated sulfur. The largest industrial SRNF plant is installed in the petrochemical industry (Bhore et al., 1999). Wax is a monoester of fatty acids that severely modifies the properties of lube oil and must therefore be removed (Hart et al., 1995). The traditional process of dewaxing involved the cooling of a hydrocarbon mixture in solvent or solvent mixtures (methyl ethyl keton, acetone) to temperatures typically ranging from —5 to — 18°C. In this chilling section, waxy components coagulated and were precipitated or filtered the solvent in the filtrate was removed by evaporation and reused in the process (Cuperus and Ebert, 2002). [Pg.285]
