Metrics reviewing

A QMS should be comprised of all the processes supporting that business and include an effective management review of those process metrics. Management needs to be aware of and understand process performance through structured metrics review programs in order to take appropriate action, providing resources and capital to improve the QMS. This hierarchy is illustrated in Figure 2. [Pg.246]

The QMS and the processes that comprise it must be custom designed for the needs of the business. One size does not fit all situations. The requirements of an enterprise vary across sites and the phases of a product life cycle. A comprehensive system will ensure a holistic programmatic approach in its support to the enterprise. This does not mean that every phase of the product life cycle (discovery, development, commercial manufacturing) will utilize all the processes that comprise the system. Nor does it require that all commercial manufacturing sites will necessarily implement all processes. It does, however, provide a common platform and expectation for all processes, owners, metrics review programs, continuous improvement efforts, and the like when they are implemented. [Pg.258]

Partial Oxidation of Ethylene to Ethylene Oxide. About 3.3 million metric tons of ethylene oxide were produced worldwide in 1988. Of this, about 70% was converted into ethylene glycol, and the balance went into detergents and other appHcations. An excellent review of ethylene oxide synthesis has been written (66). [Pg.202]

Comprehensive reviews of energy sources are pubflshed by the World Energy Conference, formerly the World Power Conference at six-year intervals (83). The 1986 survey includes reserves and also gives total resources. In 1986 the total proven reserves of recoverable soHd fuels were given as 6 X 10 metric tons. One metric ton is defined as 29.2 x 10 MJ (27.7 x 10 Btu) to provide for the variation of calorific value in different coals. The total estimated additional reserves recoverable and total estimated additional amount in place are 2.2 x 10 and 7.7 x 10 metric tons, respectively. These figures are about double the 1913 estimates, primarily because significantly increased reserves have been indicated for Russia. [Pg.227]

There are many extensive reviews on metric matrix distance geometry [41-44], some of which provide illustrative examples [45,46]. In total, we can distinguish five steps in a distance geometry calculation ... [Pg.258]

Subject to Prevention at Significant Deterioration (PSD) review if emission potential exceeds 90 metric tons/year. [Pg.414]

It also specifies data requirements, assumptions, limitations, eventual type of critical review, and the report requirements. For example, a study could be done to select between one of two materials when developing a dust transport container for a baghouse filter. The intended audience may be the designers, the results being used to indicate which one of the two materials provides the lowest environmental impact. The system function may be to transport dust from the baghouse filter to a landfill site, and the functional unit may be one metric ton or m of dust. The system boundaries may be described by considering which processes are included and which are outside the system limits. [Pg.1359]

I am proud of this second edition. For one, I received input/feedback from our valued clients, industry FCC gurus, as well as my colleagues at RMS Engineering, Inc. Each chapter was reviewed carefully for accuracy and completeness. In several areas, 1 have provided additional discussions to cover different FCCU configurations and finally, both the metric and English units have been used to make it easier for readers who use the metric system. [Pg.382]

Prospector web Prospector Web is an interactive database used to find and compare plastic materials. You can specify your application requirements to search a catalog of nearly all North American plastics and increasing amounts of plastics data from European and Pacific Rim material suppliers. Materials can be searched by any of 200+ properties, reviewed, sorted, and compared to determine the material best fitted to your needs. Test data is available in both English or Metric units and ASTM or ISO format. Both Prospector Web and its sister product Prospector Desktop come with IDES s exclusive Plastics Materials Hotline to help with questions that may arise. [Pg.593]

The production of polymers by emulsion polymerization has been important since at least World War II. For example, the production of SBR, polybutadiene, and nitrile rubbers was 1.2 million metric tons in 1986 in the U. S. alone (1). Emulsion copolymers are becoming increasingly important from an industrial viewpoint because their unique mix of properties over homopolymers can open up new market opportunities. A review of the qualitative and quantitative aspects of emulsion polymerization can be found in reviews by Min and Ray (2) and more recently by Penlidis et al. (2), and Gilbert and Napper (A). [Pg.360]

Human exposure to complex mixtures of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) occurs through inhalation of tobacco smoke and polluted indoor or outdoor air, through ingestion of certain foods and polluted water, and by dermal contact with soots, tars, and oils CO. Methylated PAH are always components of these mixtures and in some cases, as in tobacco smoke and in emissions from certain fuel processes, their concentrations can be in the same range as some unsubstituted PAH. The estimated emission of methylated PAH from mobile sources in the U.S. in 1979 was approximately 1700 metric tons (2). The occurrence of methylated and unsubstituted PAH has been recently reviewed (1, 2). In addition to their environmental occurrence, methylated PAH are among the most important model compounds in experimental carcinogenesis. 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene, one of... [Pg.91]

Once the radionuclides reach the sediments they are subject to several processes, prime among them being sedimentation, mixing, radioactive decay and production, and chemical diagenesis. This makes the distribution profiles of radionuclides observed in the sediment column a residuum of these multiple processes, rather than a reflection of their delivery pattern to the ocean floor. Therefore, the application of these nuclides as chrono-metric tracers of sedimentary processes requires a knowledge of the processes affecting their distribution and their relationship with time. Mathematical models describing some of these processes and their effects on the radionuclide profiles have been reviewed recently [8,9,10] and hence are not discussed in detail here. However, for the sake of completeness they are presented briefly below. [Pg.372]

The metric system, which is federally mandated and appears in the official listing of drugs in the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP), is a logically organized system of measurement. It was first developed by the French. The basic units multiplied or divided by 10 comprise the metric system. Therefore, a knowledge of decimals, reviewed in Chapter 1, is useful for this system. [Pg.35]

Chemistry is full of calculations. Our basic goal is to help you develop the knowledge and strategies you need to solve these problems. In this chapter, you will review the Metric system and basic problem solving techniques, such as the Unit Conversion Method. Your textbook or instructor may call this problem solving method by a different name, such as the Factor-Label Method and Dimensional Analysis. Check with your instructor or textbook as to for which SI (Metric) prefixes and SI-English relationships will you be responsible. Finally, be familiar with the operation of your calculator. (A scientific calculator will be the best for chemistry purposes.) Be sure that you can correctly enter a number in scientific notation. It would also help if you set your calculator to display in scientific notation. Refer to your calculator s manual for information about your specific brand and model. Chemistry is not a spectator sport, so you will need to Practice, Practice, Practice. [Pg.2]

Its emphasis on metrics is evidenced by the fact that SYSCO s top ten executive officers meet every Wednesday afternoon and review several hundred metrics for every one of the 157 operating units prior week s performance. SYSCO measures everything related to the receipt, movement, and delivery of products and services to its customers, to new business development, and to every expense and capital expenditure. It measures its return on equity on a weekly basis. [Pg.77]
