Diesel Fuel. Eederal diesel specifications were changed to specify a maximum of 0.05% sulfur and a minimum cetane index of 40 or a maximum aromatics content of 35 vol % for on-road diesel. Eor off-road diesel, higher sulfur is allowed. CARB specifications require 0.05% sulfur on or off road and 10% aromatics maximum or passage of a qualification test. Process technologies chosen to meet these specifications include hydrotreating, hydrocracking, and aromatics saturation. [Pg.370]

Ionomer resins are produced in multiple grades to meet market needs, and prospective customers are provided with information on key processing parameters such as melt-flow index. Nominal values for many other properties are Hsted in product brochures. The ASTM test methods developed for general-purpose thermoplastic resins are appHcable to ionomers. No special methods have been introduced specifically for the ionomers. [Pg.408]

There are a number of applieations such as bottle and film where tough materials of high elarity are desired. The advent of MBS material has been a significant advance to meet the requirements. It has been found possible here to produce an additive with sufficiently different solubility parameters from the PVC for it to exist in the disperse phase but with a very similar refractive index to the PVC so that light scattering at the interface between the two phases is at a minimum. However, owing to differences in the formulation of PVC compounds, a particular MBS modifier may not have exactly the same refractive index as the PVC eompound. [Pg.341]

Among the commonly used criteria is the air distribution performance index (ADPI), defined as the percentage of ItKadons where a combination of air temperature and air velocity meets comfort requirements. This criterion is based on experimental results of air diffuser performance for specifically tested room configurations. Data on the ADPI are available only for sedentary activity. [Pg.628]

Four column systems are available from Amersham Pharmacia Biotech that can be used to pack SEC media for various applications at the laboratory scale. These include C, XK, SR, and HR column systems. All of the laboratory-scale columns are constructed with borosilicate glass tubes. Columns for larger scale process applications include INdEX, BPG, EineLINE, BPSS, and Stack columns. The larger scale columns are constructed to meet stringent validation requirements for the production of biopharmaceuticals. Each of the column types are described. [Pg.54]

A more difficult criterion to meet with flow markers is that the polymer samples not contain interferents that coelute with or very near the flow marker and either affect its retention time or the ability of the analyst to reproducibly identify the retention time of the peak. Water is a ubiquitous problem in nonaqueous GPC and, when using a refractive index detector, it can cause a variable magnitude, negative area peak that may coelute with certain choices of totally permeated flow markers. This variable area negative peak may alter the apparent position of the flow marker when the flow rate has actually been invariant, thereby causing the user to falsely adjust data to compensate for the flow error. Similar problems can occur with the elution of positive peaks that are not exactly identical in elution to the totally permeated flow marker. Species that often contribute to these problems are residual monomer, reactants, surfactants, by-products, or buffers from the synthesis of the polymer. [Pg.549]

Selling the DO as CBFS yields a better return than selling it as cutter stock. To meet the CBFS specification, DO must have a minimum Bureau of Mines Correlation Index (BMCI) of 120 and a low ash content (Table 6-2). Aromaticity and ash content are the two most important properties of CBFS. [Pg.199]

We shall meet examples later where the basis is not denumerable, but has a continuous index, say g>, where the orthogonality and closure conditions, analogs of Eqs. (8-7) and (8-13), are respectively... [Pg.434]

With the publication of Vol. 51 we should also like to refer to editorial policy this series publishes invited, critical review articles of new developments in all areas of Polymer Science in English (authors may naturally also include works of their own). The responsible editor, that means the editor who has invited the article, discusses the scope of the review with the author on the basis of a tentative outline which the author is asked to provide. Author and editor are responsible for the scientific quality of the contribution the editor s name appears at the end of it. Manuscripts must be submitted, in content, language and form satisfactory, to Springer-Verlag. Figures and formulas should be reproducible. To meet readers wishes, the publisher adds to each volume a volume index which approximately characterizes the content. [Pg.228]

Editors and publisher make all efforts to publish the manuscripts as rapidly as possible, i.e., at the maximum, six months after the submission of an accepted paper. This means that contributions from diverse areas of Polymer Science must occasionally be united in one volume. In such cases a volume index cannot meet all expectations, but will nevertheless provide more information than a mere volume number. [Pg.228]

It is seen that errors in the smaller component can be as great as 12.5% (1.25% absolute) when the response index is 0.94. Yet on examining the curve for a response index of 0.94 in figure 2 the non-linearity is scarcely apparent. When the response index is 1.05 the error is 9.5% (0.95% absolute) and again the poor linearity is not obvious in figure 2. As already stated, to obtain accurate results without employing a correction factor, the response index should lie between 0.98 and 1.02. Most LC detectors can be designed to meet this linearity criteria. [Pg.161]

It is essential that the solution be sufficiently dilute to behave ideally, a condition which is difficult to meet in practice. Ordinarily the dilutions required are beyond those at which the concentration gradient measurement by the refractive index method may be applied with accuracy. Corrections for nonideality are particularly difficult to introduce in a satisfactory manner owing to the fact that nonideality terms depend on the molecular weight distribution, and the molecular weight distribution (as well as the concentration) varies over the length of the cell. Largely as a consequence of this circumstance, the sedimentation equilibrium method has been far less successful in application to random-coil polymers than to the comparatively compact proteins, for which deviations from ideality are much less severe. [Pg.307]

Specifications for modem detectors in HPLC are given by Hanai [538] and comprise spectroscopic detectors (UV, F, FUR, Raman, RID, ICP, AAS, AES), electrochemical detectors (polarography, coulometry, (pulsed) amperometry, conductivity), mass spectromet-ric and other devices (FID, ECD, ELSD, ESR, NMR). None of these detectors meets all the requirement criteria of Table 4.40. The four most commonly used HPLC detectors are UV (80%), electrochemical, fluorescence and refractive index detectors. As these detectors are several orders of magnitude less sensitive than their GC counterparts, sensor contamination is not so severe, and... [Pg.241]

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts. International Pharmaceutical Abstracts [104], published semimonthly, is an abstracting/indexing publication which covers all pharmaceutical literature. IPA covers approximately 700 worldwide pharmaceutical, medical, herbal, cosmetics, and health-related publications. IPA features all abstracts from American Society of Health-System Pharmacist s Annual, Midyear Clinical, and Home, Hospice, and Long-Term Care Meetings, coverage of state pharmacy journals, and American Pharmaceutical Association and American College of Clinical Pharmacy meeting abstracts. IPA indicates articles that offer CE credit. IPA is commercially available in several formats. [Pg.783]

For compacted, low-permeability soil liners, the U.S. EPA draft guidance recommends natural soil materials, such as clays and silts. However, soils amended or blended with different additives (e.g., lime, cement, bentonite clays, and borrow clays) may also meet the current selection criteria of low hydraulic conductivity, or permeability, and sufficient thickness to prevent hazardous constituent migration out of the landfill unit. Therefore, U.S. EPA does not exclude compacted soil liners that contain these amendments. Additional factors affecting the design and construction of CCLs include plasticity index (PI), Atterburg limits, grain sizes, clay mineralogy, and attenuation properties. [Pg.1095]

A company usually sets product standards in such a way as to minimize the purification expenses. These standards are often empirical tests to ensure that the buyer will get the same product in each shipment. Examples would be the melt index of a polymer, the boiling-point range of the product, and the maximum amount of certain impurities. Another manufacturer using a different process would want to set different standards. His method of production will be different, and so the amount and kind of impurities will be different. Sometimes this means expensive purification steps must be installed to meet the specifications set by the initial manufacturer. If this competitor could have been the initial standard-setter then these steps would not be necessaiy. [Pg.12]

Pig producers mainly try to approach maximal rates of lean tissue deposition and carcass index values by providing diets formulated to meet all of the known requirements. In the growing period, protein accretion increases as the supply of limiting amino acids increases (Heger et al., 2002). The dose-effect ratio can be subdivided into the nutrition-dependent phase, which is substantially linear, and the plateau phase, which is independent of nutrition supply and whose maximum depends on features of the animals, primarily characterised by the genotype (Susenbeth, 2002). [Pg.157]

For thermoplastic composites, results of flammability tests are generally reported on the basis of oxygen index values and/or UL-94 ratings (e.g. (11-12). The general problems associated with composites and multicomponent systems have not been addressed in depth and published data pertain primarily to specific glass-filled resins offered by manufacturers, or to composite systems designed to meet the specifications of a particular end use. [Pg.244]

The new Colour Index volume Pigments and Solvent Dyes lists some 350 solvent dyes and gives their chemical structures, unlike earlier editions which named 800 dyes but included few structures. This fall in numbers is not because of any decreased use but rather the general contraction in numbers of all dyes used in the textile industry. Solvent dyes have been introduced not by attempts to synthesise new colorants but by selection and in some cases modification of known disperse dyes to meet the technical requirements. The majority of solvent dyes are azo compounds but among the blue dyes there are anthraquinones. The aqueous solubility of some of the parent sulphonated dyes has been reduced to acceptable levels by formation of their salts with heavy metals or long-chain alkylamines. [Pg.86]
