Manufacturing separating

Sepa.ra.tlon, It maybe desirable to separate the feedstock into two or more components for different appHcations. Examples include separation of agricultural biomass into foodstuffs and residues that may serve as fuel or as a raw material for synfuel manufacture, separation of forest biomass into the darker bark-containing fractions and the pulpable components, separation of marine biomass to isolate various chemicals, and separation of urban... [Pg.16]

Constants and factors are often supplied by the manufacturer. Separate constants may be given for converting the stress and shear rate terms to the correct quantities and units. [Pg.184]

Peracids can be introduced into the bleaching system by two methods. They can be manufactured separately and deHvered to the bleaching bath with the other components or as a separate product. Peracids can also be formed in utilizing the perhydrolysis reaction shown in equation 17. [Pg.146]

Three types of closely related cresols exist ortho-cresol (o-cresol), meta- cresol (m-cresol), and para-cresol (p-cresol). Pure cresols are colorless chemicals, but they may be found in brown mixtures such as creosote and cresylic acids (e.g., wood preservatives). Because these three types of cresols are manufactured separately and as mixtures, they can be found both separately and together. Cresols can be either solid or liquid, depending on how pure they are pure cresols are solid, while mixtures tend to be liquid. Cresols have a medicinal smell (odor) and when dissolved in water, they give it a medicinal smell and taste. Cresols do not evaporate quickly from water, but in rivers and lakes, they can be removed quickly by bacteria. Dissolved cresols can pass through soil into underground water sources. This may be a problem at hazardous waste sites where cresols are buried. Once cresols are in the water table, they may stay there for months without changing. Cresols in air quickly change and break down into smaller chemicals, some of which irritate the eyes. Cresols can also irritate the eyes. [Pg.10]

The bullet jacket material is almost always harder than the bullet core material, with the one exception of armor-piercing bullet jackets. Bullet jacketing is done either by electroplating or, much more commonly, the jacket is manufactured separately from the bullet, and the bullet then forced into the jacket in a press. Another method is to pour molten lead into the jacket. The edges of the jacket are usually partly rolled over the base of the bullet or attached by some other physical means. [Pg.69]

The above outlines the manufacturing route for one-piece elements. In fact most rod elements are of three-piece construction in which the low-resistance cold end sections (silicon or silicon alloy infiltrated) are manufactured separately from the high-resistance hot centre section. The three sections are then joined by a reaction-bonding process. This is the most economic approach to manufacturing... [Pg.138]

For special purposes, it is manufactured separately as the so-called microporous glass, whose porosity and pore size can be regulated within certain limits (pore diameter in fractions to tens nm), by adjusting the glass composition and conditions of separation (temperature, time). The glass shows selective absorptive properties its specific surface area amounts to several hundred m g and the pore space takes a third to half the volume. Microporous glass is used as an adsorbent, dessicant and catalyst carrier. [Pg.318]

In the older marble melt process glass marbles manufactured separately are melted in the spinning jets. The marble melt process is only used when very fine fiber diameters are required or when special glass compositions are being used. The rod drawing process is less important. In this process glass rods are fed at a constant speed into the melting zone and fibers are drawn continuously onto a spool. [Pg.367]

The present invention relates to the manufacture, separation and preparation of ergot-alkaloids in state of high purity, by subjecting mixtures of the very sensitive ergot-alkaloids to chromatographic adsorption analysis. [Pg.83]

One object of the present invention is, therefore, a process for the manufacture, separation and preparation of pure ergot-alkaloids, consisting in subjecting raw or pure mixtures of ergot alkaloids or impure ergot-alkaloids to the chromatographic adsorption process. [Pg.85]

At the beginning of the nineteenth century in natural science and especially in chemistry the relation between universities and industry developed rapidly. Basic and applied research carried out at universities was closely connected with development and production in industry. Very often the researchers themselves transferred their results into practical use and manufacturing. Later on more and more specialization developed. Basic research, applied research and manufacturing separated and were carried out in different institutions and locations. [Pg.57]

Inert ingredient selection and process condition control are very important in the production of a stable SE. The component phases, the suspension concentrate, and the EC are usually manufactured separately, and the two combined with vigorous stirring to form the SE. Surfactant and dispersant selection for use in SEs are very important [17-19]. The ideal candidates are surfactants or surfactant classes that are compatible with both the aqueous and oil phases of the formulation. Incompatibilities and flocculation can occur if the dispersant is desorbed from the particulate... [Pg.315]

Loose lining. The loose-lined construction is used to make thick tantalum liners and was historically the first approach to a duplex system. The tantalum liner is manufactured separately and inserted into reactor vessels without bonding with the structural base metal. This loose-lined construction is the most economical and most widely used fabrication method throughout the entire industry. Liner thicknesses of 0.5 to 1 mm are satisfactory against corrosion. It is also possible to improve this technique by welding the liners to the base metal (i.e., weld overlay). Although economical, the loose-lined construction has some intrinsic drawbacks ... [Pg.361]

These are used to check holes and are usually renewable-end types. The gauging member and the handle are manufactured separately, so that only the gauging member need be replaced when worn or damaged or when the workpiece limits are modified. The handle is made of a suitable plastics material which reduces weight and cost and avoids the risk of heat transference. A drift slot or hole is provided near one end of the handle to enable the gauging members to be removed when replacement is necessary. [Pg.72]

As said, imperfections appear already in processing. We have knit lines areas in injection-molded parts made of thermoplastics in which, during manufacturing, separate polymer melt flows arise, meet, and melt more or less into one another. Consequences of the presence of knit lines on mechanical properties are discussed by Criens and Mosle (42). They also discuss methods of mitigating effects of knit lines on performance. The simplest such method, namely raising the processing temperature, is also a costly one. [Pg.4419]

Modern manufacturers separate these components through the distillation process. Distillation separates the various components in a mixture by boiling point. [Pg.4]

The lifeblood of modern society is found in petroleum products. Cars, planes, trains, ships, and farm equipment all require petroleum products to operate. Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that vary in molecular structure and weight. Modern manufacturers separate these components through the distillation process. [Pg.38]

A hydrocarbon is a chemical compound that contains hydrogen and carbon. One of the best-known hydrocarbons is crude oil. Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that vary from simple to complex. Industrial manufacturers separate the various components of crude oil by boiling or distilling it. The lighter carbon molecules have different boiling points than the heavier molecules. [Pg.296]
