Inert ingredients

Compressed tablets that are composed of several layers require specially adapted presses designed with several fed hoppers. For a two-layer tablet, one granulation is first fed to a die and partially compressed into a soft tablet. The second granulation is added, and the total die components then are compressed fiiUy. Such procedures are used when the tablet ingredients may be incompatible, which requires separate granulations. If needed, a layer of inert ingredient, eg, lactose, is inserted between the two. 

Formulation. Compressed tablet formulations contain several types of inert, adjuvant ingredients necessary for proper preparation and therapeutic performance. Tablets designed to be swallowed need diluent, disintegrating, binding (adhesive), and lubricating inert ingredients, whereas... 

In the Phadebas TM amylase test (72) (Pharmacia Labs) the substrate was a water insoluble cross-TTnked blue starch in tablet form which also contains some inert ingredients, sodium and potassium phosphate buffer salts and sodium chloride. This polymer was hydrolyzed by amylase into water soluble blue starch fragments. After centrifugation the absorbance of the blue supernatant was proportional to the activity of amylase present in the test samples. The day to day variation on a quality control serum had a coefficient of variation of 2.7% based on 30 days of data in our laboratory. The method is simple, reproducible and uses microquantities of serum. 

The total-release foggers (6 oz) contained chlorpyrifos (1.000%), piperonyl butoxide (0.100%), pyrethrins (0.050%), N-octyl bicycloheptene dicarboxim-ide (0.166%), and inert ingredients, including petroleum distillates (KRID , K-Mart Corp. Troy, MI). The aerosol cans were weighed before and after use to measure discharge. 

The effectiveness of these parameters is considered to depend heavily on the liquefaction conditions and the characteristics of the coal which is used. The better parameters can possibly be derived from both the amounts of the petrographic components %9 such as inerts ingredients %9 or reactive macerals % and their quality, such as H/C atomic ratio and so on. Consequently, it must be said that much further study is necessary to finally clarify the more comprehensive parameter.
