Flow measurements using tracers are performed in all piping systems carrying oil, gas or water including separators, compressors, injector systems, and flares. Calibration of elsewhere difficult accessible flow meters is regularly performed by the tracer methods, which are based on international standards. Tracer flow measurements are also well suited for special purposes... [Pg.1053]

Cobalt is a bluish silvery metal, exhibits ferromagnetism, and can exist in more than one crystal form it is used in alloys for special purposes. Chemically it is somewhat similar to iron when heated in air it gives the oxides C03O4 and CoO, but it is less readily attacked by dilute acids. With halogens, the cobalt(II) halides are formed, except that with fluorine the (III) fluoride, C0F3, is obtained. [Pg.401]

ChemSketch has some special-purpose building functions. The peptide builder creates a line structure from the protein sequence defined with the typical three-letter abbreviations. The carbohydrate builder creates a structure from a text string description of the molecule. The nucleic acid builder creates a structure from the typical one-letter abbreviations. There is a function to clean up the shape of the structure (i.e., make bond lengths equivalent). There is also a three-dimensional optimization routine, which uses a proprietary modification of the CHARMM force field. It is possible to set the molecule line drawing mode to obey the conventions of several different publishers. [Pg.326]

Valves. The dispensing valve and actuator serve to close the opening through which the product and frequently the propellant entered the container, to retain the pressure within the container and to dispense the product in the precise form and dosage intended by the manufacturer and expected by the consumer. An aerosol valve shown in Figure 4, consists of seven components. Many variations exist both for special purposes and to avoid existing patents. [Pg.349]

A wide variety of special-purpose incinerators (qv) with accompanying gas scmbbers and soHd particle collectors have been developed and installed in various demilitarisation faciUties. These include flashing furnaces that remove all vestiges of explosive from metal parts to assure safety in handling deactivation furnaces, to render safe small arms and nonlethal chemical munitions fluidized-bed incinerators that bum slurries of ground up propellants or explosives in oil and rotary kilns to destroy explosive and contaminated waste and bulk explosive. [Pg.8]

A principal advantage of the Raman microprobe is that the optics are those of a conventional light microscope a wide variety of special-purpose objectives developed for materials and biological microscopy are available. The Raman microprobe also offers the advantage of fluorescence reduction owing to the high spatial resolution of the microscope if a region of low fluorescence can be chosen for observation. [Pg.213]

It is common to employ microwave power monitoring by means of a dual-directional coupler in the waveguide transmission system between the power tube and the useful load. Part of the coupled signals may be used for examination with spectmm analy2ers, frequency meters, and other microwave instmmentation for special purposes. Generally, this is not necessary in a practical appHcation. Many microwave measurement techniques have been described (59,60). AvailabiHty of components, plumbing, and instmmentation is weU described in trade journals. [Pg.342]

The coarse, nonpigmentary cmdes are particle si2e reduced by a variety of processes to obtain pigmentary CPC. Since CPCs are utili2ed in a variety of industries and a host of appHcations, the specific property requirements vary widely. A large number of special-purpose types are commercially available designed to provide optimal properties for specific appHcations. [Pg.30]

Synthetic Applications. Oxazolines, which ate synthesized as indicated above, have been utilized in many different appHcations (25). When used in resin formulations, AMP, AEPD, and TRIS AMINO can incorporate the oxazoline stmeture into the polymer stmeture (26). Because they ate polyols, both AEPD and TRIS AMINO can be used in polyester resin modification. Oxazoline alkyd films ate characterized by improved performance, particularly salt-spray resistance and gloss (see Alkyd resins Coatings, special purpose, high performance). [Pg.19]

Special purpose articles describe analytical methodology for specialized systems such as art objects, surfaces, or residues (see Fine ART examination AND CONSERVATION NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING SURFACE AND INTERFACE ANALYSIS and, Trace AND RESIDUE ANALYSIS). Many of the techniques Utilized for these systems ate also discussed ia materials charactetizatioa and separations articles. The methodology and some of the techniques are unique, however, and the emphasis ia these special topics articles is oa appHcatioa to a particular system. [Pg.393]

Thermal Printing. Thermal printing is a generic name for methods that mark paper or other media with text and pictures by imagewise heating of special-purpose consumable media. Common technologies are direct thermal thermal, ie, wax, transfer and dye-sublimation, ie, diffusion, transfer. Properties and preferred appHcations are diverse, but apparatus and processes are similar (87—89). [Pg.50]

Specialty Pumps. There are a multitude of other pump designs in the family of kinetic pumps. Many of these designs have been around for years others continue to emerge. Some of these special-purpose pumps are described herein. [Pg.295]

Many special-purpose electrical thermometers have been developed, either for use in practical temperature measurement, or as research devices for the study of temperature and temperature scales. Among the latter are thermometers which respond to thermal noise (Johnson noise) and thermometers based on the temperature dependence of the speed of sound. [Pg.405]

Railroads generally do not supply tank cars and other special-purpose rail cars such as covered hopper cars for the movement of bulk plastic materials. Rather, shippers or receivers must furnish such equipment, usually through a purchase or lease arrangement with car manufacturers or lessors. [Pg.256]
