Logic standard

The most logical standard would be a bare proton , having no shielding electrons, but experimentally this is not possible, and instead one uses as standards compounds having sharp resonance peaks. The chemical shift may then be expressed as the difference between the resonance frequency of the protons in the sample and the resonance frequency of the protons in... [Pg.96]

Thiamine requirements must be related in any logical standard to the calorie requirements, but there is no general agreement on how much thiamine is needed per 1000 calories. Experimental evidence has given values ranging from a low of 0.13 mg. per 1000 calories (Holt, 1944) up to 0.44 mg. per 1000 calories (Alexander et al., 1946). The Canadian Dietary Standard uses 0.33 to 0.35 mg. per 1000 calories, and the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowances uses 0.5 mg. per 1000 calories. [Pg.227]

The subroutines PARIN and PARCH are source routines written in American National Standard FORTRAN (FORTRAN IV), ANSI X3.9-1978, and should be compatible with most computer systems where input can be taken from logical unit 3. [Pg.340]

For the logical format of a CD-ROM, a standard has also been agreed on (High Sierra Proposal, normed as ISO 9660 extension rock ridge), which governs the storage of files and enables the common operating systems (Apple HFS, MS-DOS, UNIX, VMS) to access them. [Pg.139]

Stand-alone computer systems, usually based on a personal computer (PC) or programmable logic controller (PLC), provide a separate computer system for each pilot plant. This allows for economical expansion for new units, separates pilot plants completely for maintenance and troubleshooting, and often has the lowest initial cost. Standardization can be a problem and software control, data gathering, and storage packages can be limited in size, scope, and capabiUty these are usually acceptable trade-offs. [Pg.42]

The initial step in selection could logically be to make an estimate of the steam flow at various steam pressures by using Fig. 29-17 for a rough estimate of efficiency. Unfortunately, there are no rigid standards for steam pressure and temperature as electrical-voltage steps are fixed, and many engineers pick a pressure and a temperature... [Pg.2501]

Using the influence coefficient technique for multiplane balancing is simply an extension of the logic, which is hardwired into the standard balancing machine. This extension has been made possible by the availability of better electronics and easier access to computers. [Pg.597]

Operations at hazardous waste activities worksites where use of a respirator due to potential radiological (as specified by Article 532 of the Draft DOE Radiological Control Technical Standard) or nonradio-logical exposure is recommended or required... [Pg.85]

The quality plan would be a logical place for such controls to be defined but clause 4.2.3 does not specifically refer to subcontractor controls. Any intention that they be defined in the quality plan is hidden in 4.2.3.1(b) where it requires you to give timely consideration to the identification and acquisition of any controls etc. Some companies produce a Quality Assurance Requirement Specification to supplement ISO 9001 and also produce a Subcontractor Surveillance Plan. In most other cases the controls may be defined on the reverse side of the purchase order as standard conditions coded and selected for individual purchases. [Pg.321]

A) Logical universality. When is a class of automata logically universal, i.e. able to perform all those logical operations that are all performable with finite (but arbitrarily extensive) means Also, with what additional - variable, but in the essential respects standard - attachments is a single automaton logically universal ... [Pg.570]

There can be no set standard or measurement for all types of filth and filth elements, nor can any one procedure be employed, any one set of circumstances considered, or any one kind of evaluation applied. In any case, however, it is of prime importance that a thorough study of method precede manipulation furthermore, it is highly desirable that the operator have sufficient knowledge of production and storage conditions to draw logical and supportable conclusions from the filth elements recorded. Obviously, degree of infestation or rot could not be expected to follow with mathematical exactitude the constant curves found in other sciences. [Pg.63]

Standards Most buildings have never been subjected to thorough engineering analyses. Traditional precedent and judgment as reviewed under Codes have (logically) controlled the standards. In fact if wood had never been used, it would be difficult to approve (burns, rots, etc.) of course it is ridiculous to assume that wood would not be approved. [Pg.245]

To the analytical chemist, a standard deviation31 is a logical figure of merit for the comparison of detectors. We shall merely introduce the important subject of counting errors (10.2) here. For present purposes, it suffices to know that these errors are predictable, and that they set a lower limit to the standard deviation in an analytical method that depends upon measuring the intensity of an x-ray beam by an integrating detector. [Pg.65]

The gimlet s logic seems clear to me gin or vodka, with Rose s Lime Juice and fresh lime juice in equal parts, shaken or stirred until ice cold and served straight up in a stemmed cocktail glass that is confident but not proud of its sex appeal. A standard martini glass... [Pg.179]

For standard deviations, an analogous confidence interval CI(.9jr) can be derived via the F-test. In contrast to Cl(Xmean), ClCij ) is not symmetrical around the most probable value because by definition can only be positive. The concept is as follows an upper limit, on is sought that has the quality of a very precise measurement, that is, its uncertainty must be very small and therefore its number of degrees of freedom / must be very large. The same logic applies to the lower limit. s/ ... [Pg.72]

Firstly, there are technical reasons concerning catalyst and reactor requirements. In the chemical industry, catalyst performance is critical. Compared to conventional catalysts, they are relatively expensive and catalyst production and standardization lag behind. In practice, a robust, proven catalyst is needed. For a specific application, an extended catalyst and washcoat development program is unavoidable, and in particular, for the fine chemistry in-house development is a burden. For coated systems, catalyst loading is low, making them unsuited for reactions occurring in the kinetic regime, which is particularly important for bulk chemistry and refineries. In that case, incorporated monolithic catalysts are the logical choice. Catalyst stability is crucial. It determines the amount of catalyst required for a batch process, the number of times the catalyst can be reused, and for a continuous process, the run time. [Pg.203]

The last tvo approaches represent promising beginnings for new methods to characterize stationary phase selectivity. The methods are evolutionary and not fully developed at present. Their future prospects are quite good and should eventually evolve into a standardized protocol for phase characterization. This is urgently required to make both the selection of stationary phases from those currently available and the rationale synthesis of new phases a logical process. [Pg.102]
