The industry roadmap specifies the need for chemically amplified resists that provide lithographic performance suitable to sustain their extension to 20 nm dimensional regime [522]. The ultimate resolution of 0.3 nm has been demonstrated by moving atoms at will with a scanning tunneling microscope [523] but the process is too slow to be economically feasible (one atom/min or... [Pg.222]

In the medium-term, it is possible that sustainable alternative fuels for aircraft wih be available in much larger quantities. The signihcant research and development activity currently underway is expected to lead to a number of commercial scale production facilities. The Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI) is currently seeking to ensure that at least ten alternative jet fuel production facilities are built and in operation within 5 years. Also, these new fuels will have been certihed for greater use in blends, possibly up to 100% alternative fuel, thus moving from drop-in blend fuels to drop-in neat fuels according to industry roadmaps. During this time, the fuels may have reached cost parity, especially if the value of their carbon reduction benehts is accounted for. [Pg.386]

As a world leader in Fluorine chemistry, Honeywell has established a broad base of application specific products to enable the semiconductor industry to meet its technology roadmap. Most recently, we have announced the availability of a new line of wafer thinning materials which provide increased chip flexibility and reduced package size as well as increased thermal dissipation... [Pg.465]

For the first decades, all roadmaps show a focus on fossil-based hydrogen production options, mainly onsite and decentral steam methane reformers (SMR), electro-lysers and hydrogen as a by-product from the chemical industry. In some regions, hydrogen is also produced to a certain extend by nuclear, electrolysis, biomass and waste gasification. Later on, with a significant increase of hydrogen, the production... [Pg.263]

Although Europe is at the forefront in many fields, a lack of co-ordination and of well defined targets could make it less suited to commercial and industrial exploitation. But at present there are some efforts to fund and develop a scientifically sound and broadly accepted European roadmap. [Pg.534]

The first edition1 of this book was published approximately 13 years ago. Its primary objective was to present an overview and a "roadmap" of the process of new drug discovery and development, particularly oriented to individuals or companies entering the pharmaceutical field. It was written by one of the authors (Smith), with no contributors, and drawn on Smith s experiences in the industry and field over the course of nearly 40 years. In the second edition, the scope of the first book has been expanded and technical details in the form of hard data have been included. In addition to the editors own commentary and contributions, the major part of the book is the result of contributions of experts in the industry. New chapters on risk assessment, international harmonization of drug development and regulation, dietary supplements, patent law, and entrepreneurial startup of a new pharmaceutical company have been added. Some of the important, basic operational aspects of drug discovery and development (e.g., organizational matters, staff requirements, pilot plant operations, etc.) are not repeated in this book but can be found in the first edition. [Pg.8]

The scientific issues indicated earlier are presently addressed in a five-year focussed research program sponsored by ONR. A research roadmap has been formulated with the participation of several U.S. universities, industry, and international research organizations. The scientific research areas addressed and the knowledge (transition elements to technology) expected from this program to help the development community in their PDE efforts are shown in Fig. 30.7. [Pg.495]

In any real memory device the capacitors take up most of the chip area the transistors and resistors are very small. Therefore the FRAM roadmap [8] shown in Table 2 mandates a fully three-dimensional (3D) capacitor structure in the industry by 2008. The state of the art at present is a PZT-lined trench, a Tokyo Institute of Technology-Samsung collaboration that achieves a 6.5 1 aspect ratio for the trenches. Ru electrodes are used, prepared from the organic precursor Ru-DER, from Tosoh Corp. [Pg.203]

Dr. Goldberg provides the roadmap for engineers of the future to stay at the front of the wave by learning to think more like entrepreneurs. By definition the entrepreneur is accustomed to—if not thrives in—a messy world where innovation and application intersect to produce transformation of products, companies, and industries. Required skills include understanding the business impact of the innovation and communicating ideas in a clear and compelling manner. [Pg.223]

Lawrence H. Dubois, SRI International As an alumni of Bell Labs and a current resident of Silicon Valley, I can tell you that the SIA Roadmap is an incredibly powerful tool. It drives a number of different industries to focus on where they want to go and a number of different disciplines to develop new kinds of resists, etching tools, lasers, deposition chemistries, and the like. Having said that, the SIA Roadmap also stifles creativity. If you come up with an idea or a concept 5 years too early, nobody cares. It will sit on the shelf until it s time for it to be on the road map. There are clearly pluses and minuses to road maps. [Pg.35]
